Becoming the Strongest Woman in the World (MVC3 Ed) - The Chun-Li Matchup/Team Thread

Also you can do Jump Down+M xx Hyakuretsukyaku (M) xx j.M into standing L etc. This is my cross up combo starter of choice. Timing and spacing are very strict/dependent.

how many hits of LLs should you do before going into j.M?

My button input is: Down + M, M, M, j.M, standing L. Don’t know how many hits that it is but that’s the bare minimum amount of inputs you can do. Chun like “falls” out of the lightning legs and tags them with the jump M as she’s about to hit the ground.

Edit:

That should help you. Yes I realize he uses j.H instead of j.M but I find j.M easier for me to land. Use what works for you.

Hey I am running chun Ironman and Tron. Wondering if i should maybe take out trun, but tron really works well to let me get in on sent, I was considering changing IM’s assist to his repolterblast instead of his otg one since it also helps me get in with chun, but idk haha i need some tips here =s.

Hey guys. I have made some progress with DevilKnight’s lesson on blocking. But I’m still confused about how to use Chun-Li to break in when people clam up and block.

If people do a stand block, then I can obviously go in low. However, what happens when people block down and away?

The strategy guide page says that this down and back/away position will block all mid and low hits. That means that high hits will whiff.

However, Chun-Li’s light stand hits mid, so that will be blocked. Her standing medium hits mid, so that will be blocked. Her standing hard hits mid, so that will be blocked. Her crouch medium punch and crouch hard kick will be blocked as well.

I think I’m still confused about how the blocking system works in this game in general.

I know that holding back blocks high and mids. So you try to go low to break defense. That’s easy. But when people do a crouching back block, then all hits mid, and low will be blocked. You can still throw, and do overheads. But those don’t seem to be viable options, or are they? I’m thinking that I can break in with Chun-Li’s jump down medium attack (head stomp), perhaps? Overhead medium kick, and overhead hard punch might be too slow? She has a forward hard that hits overhead as stated previously, but that ends right there, and you can’t really connect it to anything.

I hate to be a burden and ask for help all the time. But I’ve been in practice mode and have not been able to figure out the block system in this game and learn how to break in with Chun-Li. I’m trying to set up unblockables with X-23 as suggested, but I guess it would help if I learned how basic blocking works first.

you can try my m2 team in this…
chun (legs or tneshokyaku)
tron (projectile)
im (repulsor or unibeam)

PM’d some info for MarvelvsCapcom3.*

In other news, another reason Storm is a great character to have on a team: because of Hailstorm you can convert almost any hard knockdown from your point character into a mean OTG super by using a team hyper combo. This works after full air combos with Chun without her needing an OTG assist for a pick-up.

Zero’s Rekoha (not sure how it’s spelled) super can also do this if he happened to be on your team.

I didn’t know this, thanks for sharing the info. Zero is on my team, so it would be useful to me.

On another note, I’ve been sticking with my team of Chun / Wesker / Zero for a few weeks now, and so far, it’s been working pretty well. Aside from assists, I’m currently trying to explore good mix-ups and resets that I can do.

Thank you, DevilKnight! I’ll read it right now and let you know  I want to get better and fully dominate at this game.

Any good Chun strats against Sentinel? Does she have a good matchup against Wolverine? Also her lightning legs seem to out-prioritize almost every other rushdown attempts in the game, is this her best move to use during air-to-air encounters?
Wesker assist is pretty much a staple for me for combo’ing off her air throw, but other than her air throw, what are her best combos once you score a hit on airborne opponents?

Been reading the Chun threads and picking up some good advice and wisdom. When the game first came out my team originally was; Trish/X23/Magneto. This team did work quite well for me, but I quickly realized there was no real synergy and most importantly all 3 chars have below avg hp. Lately I have been using Wolverine/Chun/Tron, I’ll be honest i chose Chun cause her legs assist is soo good and tron for the same reason. With mu current team I find it hard vs people that use zoning chars, I struggle with Doom the most as he zones you out so well. Also i find vs Hulk to be a nightmare with his super armour next to impossible to get thru, what should i be doing?

Trade Chun or Tron against a superiour Keepaway Character with a good ranged Assist. Like Storm or Doom.
Or somebody with a Teleport. Dante or Wesker. That should do the trick, maybe.

Against Sentinel you have massive Mixups Options. Your 6C should beat out his 2B, because you are airborne.

A2A you should rely on Legs (not spamming, just once, (airdash), headstomp, aircombo of your choice).

Chun is pretty situational, get used when to use which normal to continue/start your combos.

I’ve been trying Zero (Hadangeki) / Chun-li (Hyakuretsukyaku) / Morrigan (Dark Harmonizer)…but the team synergy doesn’t seem all that good to me…

What do you guys think? Is that team any good? I’m finding it difficult to find places where I can call Chun during combos and effectively improve my damage output on the combo.

Any help on this is very much appreciated, I just started on MvC3 and don’t really have much idea of what I’m doing, despite watching shitloads of videos and reading things around =/.

I actually use Chun’s LL and Zero’s Hadangeki as assists, and I think they complement each other rather well. The only thing is, Zero’s Hadangeki on its own isn’t really that powerful. If you use his Sougemmu (clone super), and then switch out, it becomes a much stronger assist. It can help Chun get in a lot easier. I have Wesker with his OTG assist third, and I think it really makes for great team synergy. It is helpful for setting up unblockables, such as calling his assist in accordance with air M. Also, after a basic M, M, H (3x) air combo, you can call his assist, and go right into Kikoshou. If you have meter, you could DHC straight into Zero’s clone super afterwards (assuming the super is not already active), and you can continue applying the pressure. I think Wesker would be a better fit for your team than Morrigan, unless you’re very meter-dependent.

I agree. Wesker is pretty much the perfect assist character for Chun-Li (unblockable setups and extending her long meterless BnB to burn the bars she’s earning), and Chun-Li for Wesker (allows for cross ups and an easy way to combo into his level 3 without using X-Factor). I’ve started using both Wesker and Chun-Li in white and just started calling them “Husband and Wife.” Yes I know it’s stupid but seriously, they go THAT well together.

Overall I’m just starting to see Zero, Sentinel (lol nerf), Phoenix, Doom, Dormammu, and Iron Man go really well in that last spot. Reason being that both Chun and Wesker need a projectile to either get in or crossup and neither of those two really need meter where as any one of those others is super deadly with meter. Really though any one with the format of Chun LL/Wesker OTG/XXX Projectile is a winning combination for the team.

you sir just mentioned my team: Chun, Dormammu, and Wesker.

No doubt Wesker is a must if you want to take full advantage of Chun with otg help and the easiest way to do an unblockable.

Dark Hole es great to help Chun and Wesker to approach and while not the best DHC, they have a good chemistry specially Chun Kikosho to Chaotic Flame

Just played a bunch of matches yesterday where they came down to just Chun vs. Storm solo.

Any one have any ideas on how the matchup should be played? I was having a hell of a time catch a run away Storm who would just throw out projectiles until she built meter for Hail Storm. I’m open to suggestions as this seemed like the most hellish situation I’ve ever been put into with Chun-Li.

At the moment all I’ve got is to just snap Storm in and kill her from the start otherwise I’m screwed if it gets that far.

Chun without assist… pretty impossible to stick on her. With XF3 you can try to wavedash into her and melt her face

I use her on point and Dante’s Weasel Shot to keep pressure (and cover for mixups) - goes pretty well.

That seems to be about the size of it. If I have her on Anchor, against keep away I have to just pop XF3 and RTSD. Otherwise just play the matchup better and snap the problem in and get rid of it when I have access to all my options.

Keep away is definitely the bane of her existence. In the coming weeks I’ll have to find some strategies against that… they may not be guaranteed but it’s better to figure out how to deal with this then to let her just roll over and die. I’m starting to think tri-jumping strategically and using Tenshokyaku to cut off people jumping over you (especially since it’s safe on block and will put you in their face) is the best bet.

this may be a scrubby question but, I’ve been running Chun ri-Y/Ammy-B/Deadpool-B I think it has potential, but who should be the anchor of the team, or is the order okay?
Should I start Deadpool on Point for the DHC glitch?
