When I hear the “so-” and I am within range (not fullscreeen), I dash U1. Beats Guile most of the times for me.
EX sonic boom you can react as though it’s a hadoken. It’s fast but the recovery is balls.

I use U1 on Guile for a different reason - it’s an excellent punish for missed Flash Kicks. I don’t bother fighting Guile mid-screen, that’s actually kind of a bad match for her. Just drive him to the corner. There she can protect a distance where she can still pressure him offensively but react to any attempts by him to get out of the corner, and make FK whiff (which means no FA cancel). It’s also much easier to U1 through SB, and since he’ll have to be walking backwards or sitting down to do it it’s a lot easier to read as well.
guile vs chun is so fun for me
and ppl get all mindf*cked when you punish a lp boom
you just need to hear “So~” and mash that u1
I miss the change they made in AE where if you hit Guile and Dee Jay on their recovery of a projectile it would count as a Counter Hit. I can see why they took it out in 2012, but it always felt so good to land that Counter Hit for a little extra damage on U1 lol
how do you guys approach the chun mirror? This match is weird.
U1 (and tricks for baiting out the other guy’s U1), and footsies to the max.
is just weird
I love the Chun mirror! Mostly because I run into it only like once a month on PSN. I only speak from experience so:
I don’t really know how to play footsies, but try to play the neutral game. It’s easier to react to whatever unsafe thing they might do. Stay outside of sweep range. Try fishing for a sweep or hazanshu and focus crumple it. There are too many Chun’s reliant on those two things to mount their offense. If you’ve got good reaction time, focus dash through hazanshu and do cl.hk into ex legs. Focus dash through sweep into a throw. We all know what Chun dies from, and we all know what we tend to do as Chun users. If your really good you’ll examine their blockstrings. After a st.mp, we all tend to cancel it into something at some point. Since it’s not a true blockstring, you can hazanshu them if they cancel it into a kikoken or their own hazanshu. Whoever jumps first in this mirror, I think tends to lose air to air. Neutral jump hk for distant jumpins works wonders. Closer and you can just air throw. Other than st.fierce, I don’t think her other ground to airs work as well. After you score a knockdown, that’s when you get aggressive, and if it doesn’t work out just reset the situation and think it over again. Unless your absolutely certain, don’t use ex spinning bird. She can bait and stuff her own bird pretty easily, I forgot the setup though. Save your super meter, super punish sweep. IDK there’s a lot of other things, but I can’t think of it all at once. Edit: there are some things in my post that need retesting. Someone go retest it for me, I’m too lazy. Oh yeah if they neutral jump hk close to you, I think you can punish it with sweep when they come down, or go up and meet them with neutral jump hp.

Side note, does anyone have a match of Nemo vs. Nuki? I’ve been looking everywhere for that replay!
I let the other Chun player get the lead or steal the lead from me toward the end because for whatever reason I felt like eating a sweep or a grab at the last minute… then I lose… then I curse at the screen for about 7 minutes.
Real answer: Play good footsies. It’s the matchup where it’ll get put to the test the most imo and if you win in that area you usually win the match.
As far as figuring that out: if I get countered for anything I do, I’ll try it again to check for legitimacy and then I try it myself later… and it usually works, go figure.
Edit: Speaking of this match, if anyone wants to run the matchup with me online (I hate it, but it’s still necessary to try and stay sharp in it and pick up new things etc.), you can hit me up on either XBL or PSN tag: darklightjg.
I stay on the East coast, so if you’re on the East coast as well it’ll probably be a good connection. I’ve gotten mixed results playing other locations.
If I get xbl ever again I’ll take you up on that. I live on the east coast. I dunno where you live but I plan on going to the next level sometime soon, so if you go there perhaps we can play offline.
It’s weird; it’s no Ryu, but it’s one of the better mirrors in the game.
Viper-Viper, on the other hand…
idk sometimes it can be very annoying when hazanshu trolling is on the way
If you don’t wise up and trade HSU’s with the other guy all the time, then sure lol.
Hazanshu is too risky vs. Chun, her fireball recovers pretty fast to react to it consistently.
And she can punish it with focus dash, c.hp x legs loop, at the very least you get cl.hk x legs, c.hk.
Chun fb recovery is the same of ryu if not slower and that is not trolling but punishing a fb
Almost every character can do focus something and punish not just Chun
ITOH you can’t tech a throw and focus at the same time and eventually you’ll get tolled if you’re not paying attention to your teching habits
How do you guys like to go about stopping a random HSU?
I’ve had success with st.mp and st.hp but I find that st.mp is far more lenient in timing. As I play around more though, st. hp seems to be “better” especially in the damage department.
Also, i’ve been playing around a bit, and I’ve found that any time they jump in with HP tc cr.hp beats it. But I havent tested it in match.
Back on the topic of HSU. I dont feel like its very useful in this match. I have very little matchup experience in this one though so maybe im wrong.
J. Tc loses to sweep so I just do that
Against a telegraphed hzu neutral jump is a very good way to put a dent on their pride lol
Other than that jab, st.mk and even Cl. Hk are useful to stop hzus. You can grab a hzu before it hits too hard but yeah
I wasnt aware of that, thanks!
Again, if they are using hazanshu in neutral just react with focus dash, cl.hk x legs, c.hk
If they are using hazanshu in your blockstrings then make sure you’re frame trapping with cl.hk a lot.
Spamming HSU, use the tactics above; in the mean time build your super meter and punish a blocked HSU with it.
Laugh at your opponents misfortune as their health bar goes bye-bye.
