"Becoming the strongest woman in the world!" Chun-li Match-up Thread

Yeah those links do so much damage, gets me pretty pissed because that’s all they need to win. I feel like Chun doesn’t have enough damage to be feared, she’s only good at keeping them away for so long (nobody takes it seriously when you go in and try to rush them down). Maybe they should give Chun her U1 damage back from vanilla along with the EX legs damage

It seems damage and stamina are the gripes you guys have.

If they beefed her up would you guys be cool with that? Or is it deeper than that?

The lack of a SRK-like move for her to deal with the wakeup game accounts for a lot. Her old method of coping with wakeup/anti air is EX Bird Kick, but these days it tends to get stuffed a lot. So either give her a better EX SBK, or an SRK-like move (either will do), and she will fare considerably better I think.

How about like a Scorpion Hellfire kick?

Her thighs and calve muscles would work this nicely. Except ya know. Without the whole fire thing and the extreme slide in this gif.

Is it just me or is there more frame advantage after st.hk xx hk.ll, mk.ll > whatever as opposed to cr.fp xx hk.ll, mk.ll > w/e? I’ve been practicing character specific combos and against gief it seems way easier to link sweep after doing the legs combos starting with hk rather than cr.fp.

thats because some hits of the first combo you listed is hitting meaty, that way that loop give you better timing/advantage, but im pretty sure the adv is not greater than +8

You guys have an idea how to get in on Juri when she’s saving a lot of her fireballs? Now that her start up for the fireball beats fireballs it’s pretty tough to get in without getting anti-aired. I think the Thigh life thread should be updated :stuck_out_tongue:

I haven’t played in long time mind you, but when I faced off against a solid Juri say Roknin, Kail or Shake3 from the Juri section of SRK.
I practically became a FA-whore and treated it semi-dhalsim esque in order to get in and score as much damage as possible then retreat.
She has decent wake up options from Kasatushis and reversal Senpusha, which a Juri player shouldn’t spam but it is also a fairly decent reversal, those options have to keep Chun a little reserved.
Rarely throw fireballs because Juri has too many ways around them from Storing, FAing, Jumping dive kick, Kasatushi to retreat, advance or NJ to dive kick.
Lk Fuhajin will actually go under Kikoukens so walking in behind them to advance can be tricky.

Hosenka reversals on blocked Senpushas (also super and I think her Cr.Hk too) and Dash Hosenka fuhajin releases

If you can land a few Cr.Hp xx LLegs or ExLegs to J. Hks, bait a reversal - punish and get a few throws into safe jumps the fight will belong to Chun Li; I’ve never had much success pushing the offensive issue on Juri’s wake up game so I found it best to hit and run
but if you get cornered, Juri has FSE, and continually has at least one fuhajin stored at all times (she has good traps) in can be an uphill battle, especially if the Juri player knows her Fuzzy guard/mind f*ing reset sheniangins.

Hope that helps a littttttttlle bit. I’m scared to even play this game having not touched it in MONTHS!!!

and remember the safe jump against her

f.throw, dash, j.hk

A random store can be dash ultra’d

You can get away with fb’s here and there, but you have to be more careful. Sweep/s. hp/s. mp are good pokes, but you have to be conservative about them as well. Her dive kick is a breaker, but highly punishable if blocked.

This really surprises me. I knew you went nuts with SFXT of all things, but you couldn’t do two games at a time?

Hi there, Chun forums. I didn’t think this post warranted a new thread so I’m going to post it here.

Getting to the point, I’m a Dan main with a tournament coming up, and Chun-Li is arguably Dan’s hardest match up. I’m just looking for a few decent Chun-li players to play with and hopefully get some more match up experience because of right now I feel that I have literally no options whatsoever.

If anyone is interested please either write me back here or through a PM. Thank you!

make sure you taunt and when tht fails taunt again and then FADC into taunt

I’ve had issues with light kick dankicks, really tough to deal with if you don’t have a get off me tool and you’re forced to use precise anti-airs.

LK Danku gets farted on or trades with EX SBK, and I need to guess backdashes afaik to do anything about them. Also knee pressure will randomly whiff against chun because hitboxes

i hate the dan mu

the ppl who play him are dumbass for the most part

the ppl who take dan seriously cant really do it, stupid character…

A couple things:
Juri’s fireball store can be ultra punished on reaction. I do it all the time and find it MUCH easier than trying to punish a released FB. A lot of her special moves are easily ultra punishable on block including divekicks.

You can dodge LK Dankyaku with cr. MK and punish like you can wih Sagat’s tiger knee. Other Versions of Dakyaku are punishable with super on block.

What I came in to post:
I’m not sure if this was obvious and people were already using it but I know it’s common knowledge that HSU can be linked into super. But what I didn’t know/attempt until today is WALKING UP and hitting a lk HSU and linking it into super. Even in that little bit of time you can gain enough charge to link into super.
This can be very useful in making her up close game more of a threat (one of the reasons I beg for a kara throw so much every time an update may be in the works, is because there’s not much Chun can do to stop seasoned players from just crouch blocking and late teching that’s actually SCARY) and allow her to walk forward and apply real pressure. Of course it’s tight, but it’s more consistent than linking jab or cr. lk (these are actually character specific whiff vs. certain characters) once you get it down.

i have said that in the past and IIRC i had talked about this with 4neqs on fb too

Hey guys, been thinking about Chun for quite a while now and im finally going to work on her. Just wondering if someone could give me some info on her best practical bnbs, and CH setups I should know about and what they might lead to, the best method for piano’ing into legs, what strength of legs should I use in what situation, and basically anything that would help me out. Im aware of the standard hit confirm into st.lp > st.hp, but other than that, im not really aware of her combo options. Also, if someone could post her typically considered worst matchups, that would be great. Thanks yall, I really appreciate any help that yall are willing to give. <3

Hi,

Basic chun stuff:

Bnb’s: cr.lkx2, ex legs
Cr.lk, cr.lp, st.lp, st.hp
Cr.lp x 2 or 3 (spacing dependant), st.lp, st.hp
Cr.lk, cr.lp, cr.mk, kikoken

From a jumpin best combos are crhpxhklegs combos. Crhp, mk sbk does more damage but leaves you in a neutral state in the opponents face.

I slide my legs combos from hp-hk-mk-lk-mk-hk and you can just mash out 4 mks afterward for the extension into mk legs. Pianoings probably preferable if you want to learn it there are already good threads for that.

Learn her safe jumps, typically off of a forward throw dash, and either jhk/jmk/jhp/jlk will work but this varies by character so test it out or look for threads on it I’m sure there are some. Off of ex legs jhk is safe aainst most, and there are safejumps off of her back throw and sweep too, just do some research. You can os off of her safejumps too with sweep/hasanshu etc to catch dashes or teleports

Frame traps: crlp/crlk, sweep
Crlp, crhpxhk legs
Cr lp, cl.hk

This is starting to get long now, lol so I’ll stop but hope that helps. Have a look on this board there’s loads of info
