"Becoming the strongest woman in the world!" Chun-li Match-up Thread

I heard that Tokido actually prefers the tweaks done in HDR but it’s not as accepted in Japan as normal ST.

tokido plays vega tho, japan in general doesnt love vega

idk why are we talking about hdr now… this thread is so weird right now kjkjakja

I like it if only for the easier controls and some of the changes. But I played ST for the DC and HSF2 for the PS2 as well. Wish my friend were around so I could play STHD on his PS3…

Chun-Li stored/walking super ftw

Its the only access I have to that era of SF, don’t have roms or mame.
I didn’t have any problems with the gameplay of HDR, absolutely love the artwork Udon did
I mean look at Mipe’s Avatar – that is one sexy Chun Li!

I am definitely late, but cr.mp is sooo good Devil’s Reverse and headstomp Follow up that I always use it.

Yeah its really useful, also remember that if they use it mid screen (to build meter) dash then do it (or dash twice spacing dependant). You can follow that up with cr.hk or st.mp, HSU or nothing or if you fancy; buffer legs from cr.mp, it doesn’t combo obviously but if they press anything you hit em, if they jump away you’re safe (obviously they have options so don’t over use it) and it builds meter…

Bit of a gimmick but I use cr.mp and buffer legs at full screen to build meter without having to throw a kikoken or dash back sometimes against characters /players I feel have no easy punish option for it…

ok i was in the lab testing chun2012 safe jumps against honda

is very tricky to safe jump the EX headbutt but is doable, as you should know the set up is

f.throw, dash, j.lk

now for some reason in AE (and 2012) EX headbutt stuff the j.lk, all other options get stuffed or just whiff, to make this set up more reliable you have to walk a pixel after the dash this way reversal headbutt wont stuff your j.lk, but late/delayed headbutt will and is a strict timing for honda tho

edit. almost forgot that this set up (the clean one) works against adon, he can´t use forward dash against it and his EX lady gaga (his srk) whiff

Dudley’s crouch forward is actually a pretty good poke now, but Chun can reversal punish it via U1 (not that its worth the change of Ultra).

Ultra 1 is good against Dudley, really good… He is a footsies based character and a lot of Dudley’s throw out f+HP or HP a lot. On whiff punish/stuff you can get counterhit st.mp to Ultra1 a lot against them.

Now I am not going to pretend I land this all the time, in fact I’ve done it once against Dudley ever, but I have been in a lobby with Skatan in the past with a Dudley player and seen him land it every round for about 5 games in row. So I’d say if you have the reactions and at high level play Ultra1 is a very viable option against Dudley, with that and the punish on blocked moves you can get its as viable as Ultra2…

Admittedly you have to be more godlike than I am ever likely to be to use it to its full potential but I’ve seen it used to its full potential and its worth investing the time into it (as I’ve started doing)

Yeah, I thought about the stand mp into ultra but I know I can’t do it so I didn’t really want to put it down. If you’re good at linking U1 from counter hits and HK legs I guess, then yeah its a great ultra for a lot of matchups that most people don’t consider using it in.

He got his invincibility back on :lp: Headbutt, so he can throw that for free. Requires testing (I’d do it myself, but 2012 isn’t on PC yet =( )

lp headbutt gets stuffed by the j.lk

Solid, thanks!

another random test

df.lk seems to be pretty decent counter against chiken wing, from one st.mp away or so /random

actually if you block the ex one from point blank chun can dodge the last hit by crouching punishing with lk bnb

or you just wait crouching and sweep him

Been doing that safejump at Vanilla arcades/console because I have access, I can confirm that they work there too. Reason being the OG Honda lp headbutt as an antiair is from there too. Actually I tried other safejumps but they did get stuffed by said aa headbutts. Malva’s method (j. lk) definitely stuffs even jab ones.

Guys…I think Hakan may have evened up the match-up in AE12. She can’t prevent him from oiling now that its naturally applied at the start of a round. I played some casuals with a pretty good Hakan. I needed to zone him more but its definitely higher on the difficulty scale than it was before.

I actually thought it was 5-5 in AE due to his focus cancel into normals totally destroying Chun’s footsies and poking game, I think I mentioned it before? I’ve not actually played my mates Hakan yet in 2012 but I think the MU will be in his favour. In fact I’m going to say something stupid… I think Hakan is high tier in 2012…

This is my mates Hakan (but on a Gamerbase account in the 2nd vid, can’t be bothered to explain if you don’t live in the UK lol), its his ability to make the game just not SF4 that makes him hard… Even unoiled he has some good pokes and AA’s. If you watch these fights you’ll see its almost impossible to mount and kind of offence that uses normals lol.

If you want to understand what Hakan can do to try and learn more about a MU that in my opinion will be really hard check out his channel he does tutorials and tech demonstrations (although I’m not sure how many people here will feel the need to fully understand the Hakan MU I’m just throwing out there and plugging my mate at the same time)

I actually play a bit with some Hakan players, and I think your mates just really good, and outplaying those other guys. It also looks like they’re not super comfortable with the matchup. I think Chun won it comfortably (but not amazingly) in AE, she doesn’t necessarily shit all over Drykan in footsies, but she can hover just outside his effective range, and prevent him from oiling up, she’s got enough rushdown to blow him Drykan up if she gets some momentum, and she can deal with Oilkan’s footsies & rushdown “okay” with meter.

In 2012 however, dealing with Oilkans footsies right at the start of the match, with no meter? That’s sounds like it’s going to be super hard against a Hakan with good normal footsies AND good FDNC skills, especially since you really don’t want to just leave him at full screen oiling up like that Bison did, so I’m not going to disagree with the idea of 2012 Hakan being a bad matchup.

This is pretty much how I feel. I didn’t want to say bad match-up cause of one night of games but man its a tough fight for sure.

Wii, you may be right about him being high tier. You cannot footsie him at all at the start, no jump ins, no anything.

CitizenCIA has a really solid Hakan (I think he’s like 7th on XBL in america) and I played him at a tournament on Saturday. I felt confident in the MU, but Hakan definitely has some powerful tools against Chun (a la FACC [focus absorb crisco cancel]).
