"Becoming the strongest woman in the world!" Chun-li Match-up Thread

how does chun li stop jguar kick spam why is chun li v adon not a bad matchup for chun?
it seems like no one really has an answer for this matchup

@Jedoy: Thanks!

@Cardell: Is it possible to df+lk Adon out of Jaguar kick?

Yes you can but not reactively >.<

Regarding adon, I believe it’s not that hard to keep him out. Standing fierce is a good button to press in this match up. Get him frustrated to use jaguar kicks and he’ll have to rely on his footsie game which shouldn’t be a problem compared to yours.

If you can’t do it reactively then you really have two options:
-Do it when you have an opening and nothing is really happening just to keep him aware of it and afraid to abuse Jaguar kick, especially when he could be comboed into EX legs or Ultra 2 afterwards.
-Do your best to get a good read on when he uses Jaguar kick and then use the df+lk on prediction.

sounds about right but warding off that kick is a fight all on its own

Adon is not a bad match up for Chun cuz Chi-Rithy and Lud beat Gamerbee at Season’s Beatings. Ask them.

Oh and good shit to Ark playing LoL. Shit gets too funny when we’re on the same team.

edit : As far as I know about the match up, it’s impossible to win online unless you got Guile. But offline, where it matters, you just gotta have good reactions. You can reaction late EX SBK (not reversal) to get away if he does it in a string. Otherwise, if he’s just doing them, you gotta st.forward/st.fierce/j.roundhouse them. It just tests how familiar you are with Chun’s anti air game.

Agreed. The secret is to not get hit with it and know the range he uses. Stay just outside that range and whiff punish with standing fp. Do that until you win or until he stops spamming it.

I think I’ve even seen cr.MP beat Jaguar Kick. I believe cr.HP works too since it lowers Chun’s hitbox so low to the ground.

I’ve never tried df+LK though, that might be interesting if it works.

Essentially, the way Chun wins the Adon matchup imo is by not abusing Focus and by having good footsies. Adon has a lot of natural Focus breakers, whether they are armor-breaking specials or normals that hit more than once. Then again, I’m the type of player who abuses Focus Attack probably too much, so that might not be as much of a problem for some people. Just be aware of it.

But again, I think you have to use some unconventional anti-airs in this matchup. Against Jaguar Tooth, I do cr.HP and cancel into MP Kikoken. If cr.HP doesn’t hit, the Kikoken doesn’t come out and you’re okay. If it does hit, the Kikoken comes out and Adon is forced to deal with it since he gets reset. Any Ultra he tries on Reversal after getting reset doesn’t work as long as Chun blocks after the Kikoken - she’s safe.

Also, use Ultra 1 in this matchup since it can punish any Jaguar Tooth even if it whiffs, and technically Jaguar Kicks as well. I wouldn’t use Ultra 2 unless you have godlike reactions and think you can react to, and punish, a Jaguar Kick.

It all comes down to knowing your spacing and your footsies, really.

against adon…lots of nj. hk (not when he’s too close). seriously… lots… bait his jaga stuff. chun jumps high enough that his backward shoryuken will wiff and chun can punish with nj.hk>cl.hk>ex.legs>u2. But yep… lots of nj hk on this match up. Lots of adon will do this, they score a knockdown, they dash forward next to you then meaty nj.hk you on wake up. when there’s space to backdash, it’s the best way to get away.

Yeah, I use this tactic as well and it’s pretty effective. Then upon landing, you can followup with whatever cr.lp/cr.lk BNB combo of your choice. As it’s been said multiple times before - the key is spacing and knowledge of her AA game, as well resisting the temptation to randomly press buttons.

I played several games (FT20) versus Gamerbee. Loose 20-0 lol but from my experience neutral jump is not good because each time i jumped he was doing jaguar kick hk (this one which go higher)

Gamerbee has sick reaction though. He was staying at the good range to punish my jump. not too far and not too close.

When i was in the corner, i cannot even escape with a cross up. His jaguar kick acted like a wall.
He mix air jaguar kick with normal jaguar kick.
He don’t use jaguar tooth because his game is to stay close to you

I have a video from another chun li versus Gamerbee (i didn’t record my games sorry)

Option select U2. (off of a safe jump)

It shuts down the following characters wake up options.
Vega
Rose
Sakura

The reason you do it is that Rose & Sakura’s reversals are so slow, that they will catch your OS sweep, leaving you without a backdash punisher once they have meter. With Vega, his flips can be punished only if you don’t OS sweep, meaning you have to choose which one you want to punish. OS U2 punishes backdashes, both of Vega’s flips, Sakura’s EX uppercut and Rose’s EX spiral.

Not currently recomended on anybody else, although I’m still looking into Makoto & Boxer.

I’ve been doing it by qcf hk, qcf 3 punches, but I don’t have it down 100%, so if anyone else finds success with a better way, posting it here would be much appreciated:lovin:.

Me i use that only versus Claw and my method is qcf x 2 + 3 punch in the air and after that i just do an another 3 punch input.

So i buffer the ultra in the air before i input the jump attack.
In the air 3 punch = HP

The only risk is if you input wrong your 3 first input and you get something like a jump lp. You land faster (short hitstop) and your option select come out even on block.

About Rose, what happen if she use soul throw ex on wake up ?

Hey all, just looking for a few tips. I’m a Blanka player, switched to Chun about a month ago, my biggest match up problem is the jumping fierce Ken and Ryu’s. I know the Ken/Ryu thing must be obvious as there are thousands of them online. I’ve tried all the solid anti airs for Chun and I am assuming it is my spacing that is off. Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

You really just have to know which anti air works at the time. Against Ken/Ryu its typically st.mk. If you know theyre going to jump and they havent lifted off yet, I like to hit them with st. HK. Other times it can be st.HP. IIRC I only use St. HP when theyre on their way down from a jump and im in the correct spacing. Its hard to remember because i have more of a “feel” for which anti air works at the moment.

Chun Li’s anti airs are very situational, which is why she can be difficult to use, especially against jumpy idiots.

Okay, I think I like that. I’m going to do qcf x 2, fierce, 3p though, since that seems to work, and doesn’t have the issue you’ve described. But I’ll continue to look into it.

Weeell, apparenlty she flies out, lands behind you and punishes the fuck out of you. So that’s bad. Maybe it’s not such a great anti-Rose OS.

Cr.MP also works wonders against Ryu/Ken (especially Ken because ns.MK trades sometimes). But yea be prepared to lose to jump-happy morons online once in a while. It just happens.

Vs Gief/Viper help

I need help with the Zangief and viper match up because I played a geif and viper and got owned I didn’t know what to do. Here are the matches:
