Because StarCraft is Too EZ, Sid Meier's Civilization!

All I want to know is, can I play Civilization 2 cooperatively?

I’m looking for games I can download online and play with a friend. It’s frustrating not being able to play certain games together.

Starcraft is not easy. Watch the Starcraft II Battle Report 3 on Gametrailers. Those two great players had to come up with such a strategy on the fly and that’s not something an amateur player or even an intermediate player would come up with.

I cannot even fathom how they could have planned their entire game out and then executing it with random factors thrown in the mix too. I’m sure the Protoss player did not expect his two colossus to be mind-controlled but nonetheless what he pulled at the end was insanely coordinated.

Well, you’re certainly entitled to your opinion, as I am to mine. But the reason why I would call SC complicated is that the amount of things that you need to require in order to become highly competitive is just ridiculous.

Aside from having extremely high APM and general multitasking abilities, you need to have incredible micro, and you need a thorough knowledge of builds/counter builds. And this isn’t counting all the random tidbits of info/techniques that help you to shave time off builds or attack better. Like attacking with vulture patrol micro. Or magic boxes. Or stacking air units.

So yeah, I think SC is vastly more complicated than most other games out there. At least at a competitive level.

And my point in comparing it to GGXX was that they’re both fundamentally similar, for games being in different genres. Both have an incredibly high learning curve, both require an insane amount of technical skill, both are highly balanced games, etc. My point is that both are at the top of their respective genres for being difficult, technical-driven games.

I mean, if I’m going to make an analogy on a FIGHTING GAME FORUM, I might as well use an actual FIGHTING GAME for a point of reference. Since not everyone here is familiar with the intricacies of Starcraft.

No one said SC was easy, people are just saying it isn’t the be all end all hardest game of all time like people make it out to be. Any Strategy game can have people switching on the fly and adjusting strategies when need be.

Edit: GG does not have a high learning curve wtf. Just basic Eddie shit kills everyone.

I just got neg’d for saying I had an R4. Grow up dick face.

embrace the red bar

I used to play StarCraft. A lot. I love that game to death, but Age of Empires is a more complicated RTS. I’m sorry but it’s the truth. It’s also more fun than Age of Empires, but I digress…

By singling out two games as ‘the most complicated’ from different genres, you’re risking being countered by NUMEROUS games. Have you ever tried getting 100% on Gran Turismo 4? It’s not easy. How about Tribes? Did you ever play THAT first person shooter? That’s a game where if you’re good at it, people talk about you. The first Tribes was known to be the competent FPS player’s smashing grounds. You had to constantly be aiming towards where people are going in three dimensions while achieving a team-oriented goal.

Great game, insanely complex & reflex-intensive.

Does anyone remember that CIV2 expansion pack which had different scenarios like letting you play as dinosaurs and stuff?

Used to love that. (years since I’ve played it though)

it was all about civ 2 and the mega railroad resource bonus and the super hard to attack cities and how you only had to beat one unit in a stack to kill it all unless it was in a fort or city.

it was not about civ 1 and losing battleships to spearmen.

Maybe it’s because I haven’t had enough sleep and I’m tired. . .but I fail to see your point here.

Are you saying that it’s impossible to determine which game is most complicated on an objective level? Okay, fine, I agree. Because obviously that’s my opinion–you’re free to disagree at your leisure. I’m neither stupid nor foolhardy enough to think that my opinion is the end-all-be-all of the matter.

Again, let me repeat that I was trying to make an analogy that most of SRK would understand. This is a fighting game forum; GGXX is a fighting game. It’s also notorious for being extremely technical and having a ridiculously high learning curve. My intent was that if I compared SC to GGXX, people would draw the conclusion that “oh. . .I guess SC is similar in its complexity and difficulty to learn.” Hence, SC not being “easy,” as the OP suggested.

If you don’t like the analogy, that’s great. Most analogies, by their very nature, tend to be logically flawed because the things being compared are always going to be different on a fundamental level. If you didn’t like the fact that I considered SC or GGXX to be at the top of their respective genre in terms of difficulty/complexity, then too bad. That’s my opinion.

So, with that out of the way: what’s your point?

There’s nothing wrong with owning an R4, but you more than alluded to pirating your games. I can see some people taking issue for that.

No I did not neg you.

And yes Civ kicks ass. I’ve been playing since Civ1 and those horrible hidden passcodes in the manual you had to put into the game every now and then (ARM? Analog Rights Management??). Civ Rev was a fucking sleeper hit IMO and its a shame that so many Civ heads don’t play it because they think it is watered down.

Civ, and Rev are different.

That doesn’t make sense. Civ 4 and Civ Rev are different, but Civ Rev fits nicely into the Civ series. It is an extremely streamlined version of Civ 3 and Civ 4 IMO. If they do CivRev2 I would appreciate a little more control, but I thought they did a fucking great job for a console only Civ.

I’m glad to hear this, cuz I never played the other civs and wondered how much it was watered down and how much it feels like a civ game.

SC wasn’t declared to be easy in any way but a sarcastic one, and I think you know that. Civ DOES take more thought than SC does, but it doesn’t require an APM count or micro-management ability in a real-time atmosphere. Thus, the two are different entirely and are very difficult at their highest levels. The same holds true for GGXX and lots of other stuff.

My point was just to bold your statement as erroneous. I don’t think anyone was really calling SC easy.

I love the civ series. I started with 3, and put a lot of time into it and four. My main gripe with the series is how you can have the game in the bag, but still have to play another 3-6 hours to actually satisfy one of the win conditions. That being said, visit www.civfanatics.com for all the civ info you need. The game of the month is a fun way to compete with other players in what is mostly a single player game.

Civilization is to Starcraft as… well, know comparison really needed here. Anyone who has played high level SC knows the answer.

starcraft to easy? are you fucking serious? Better have been some sort of metaphor because bro you havent seen hard like c+ and higher iccup starcraft matches

have you guys heard of teamliquid
