"Bearly Survived" The Teddie Thread

Cross up j.A “hitconfirms,” this will usually end up leading to any of the combos Emil or Lord Knight posted.

Score with her.

Sadly, my courage statistics isn’t high enough, but one day I will!!!

quick matchup thoughts

narukami - pain in the ass. i originally thought this was in teddie’s favor because B+D denies him 5D oki, but narukami has good pokes and higher damage off random hits than you do. tough.

yosuke - one of teddie’s hardest matches. very fast and lots of movement options makes it hard to pin him down with items. his damage isn’t too high, but if they choose to maximize damage (giving up pressure) it can be very hard to catch up because of how fast he is.

chie - the other hardest match. huge damage off random hits, you can deny her of her basic setups, but she can randomly mix up between 5d and 5dd (or 2d and 2dd in corner) and punish you for big big damage if you B+D. also she has teddie only combos midscreen, and they like to use jD to reset (as you can’t use B+D in the air). kirisame going 3-0 against souji should be enough for you to know that this is his hardest match

aigis - also tough, origa mode damage is super high and she’s super mobile, if you can pin her down her B+D is ass and in normal mode she doesn’t get too big reward off most random hits. also sb tv is great vs her

labrys - free. cant really do much about items and you can dictate the pace as you will. if you get hit in red axe you’ll die, but who wont lol. also note that you shouldnt try to B+D her spike oki

slab - annoying, but once you get used to her it’s not bad. jB, 2B, 5B are all good at breaking her persona. barrel and buckets are less useful to randomly throw out cause of 5D but are still good to use in pressure. bait B+D with 5b backstep, rising jB and teddie screw (if you have meter)

yukiko - same as slab. use 5D to absorb fans, and make sure you can do the SB tv fatal combo. her B+D is a guard point, so jB, 5B backstep, and kuma screw. item > circus super is not so good cause she can dp through it. if you can keep the amount of random damage you take down you shouldn’t have much problems

mitsuru - she’s tough but it really depends on their knowledge of the matchup, she’s a fairly straightforward character. the main scary thing is that if she’s correct she gets HUGE damage, but her average damage is minimal. obviously, the better they are at converting random hits, the scarier she’ll be. a bonus is that she can’t use jC to punish your throw whiff (usually leads to ~4500 dmg). also, like yukiko, she can’t really punish screw on block

kanji - not going to say he’s free, but it’s not difficult. he has low mobility so you can dictate the pace of the match with items. try to B+D lightning if you can. use jC or an item to bait his b+d

naoto - surprisingly annoying. bullet followup on b+d is good vs certain items, and rising jB doesnt stop it. again, being able to combo off fatal SB tv is important. her health is low so you can kill her in the corner in 1-2 combos.

liz - lowest health, so she’ll die quickly, and you can ignore some of her stuff with B+D. dont try to make her throw whiff, try to make your throws ambiguous, im not sure but you can probably walk up > backstep if you read 2b

akihiko - not too bad, don’t mess up or he’ll kill you in 2 combos. if you stay airborne you’ll never have to worry about random corkscrew

This is the matchup that kills me. Any additional suggestions?

When I fight Narukami I try to make sure I’m bearly grounded to avoid his high low mixups. Not sure what else to suggest beyond that :frowning:

I’m not sure how practical it is given some strict timing and space requirements, but you can OMC a sweep into instant jump j B, j A, land and then go into whatever combo you want. Other characters can do this too, but its more effective with teddie because his sweep multi-hits with the fish projectile.

Does teddie’s AoA have any use? It’s slow enough that a perceptive opponent can move from crouching block to standing block easily during its startup frames.

It can crossup.

Also worth throwing out when meteors and other shit is falling down I guess.

it’s slow. originally people used his AoA as a throw whiff setup. these days they use it for guaranteed unblockables

the one you’ll probably use the most is off meteors. if meteors are coming down and the opponent is close, try to B+D. if the B+D connects, B+D hits > meteors hit > dash AoA > delay followup.

  1. B+D hits = causes rage
  2. meteors hit = causes confusion + and spin state. B+D combos into it
  3. AoA hit = just hits. combos out of the B+D.
  4. AoA delayed follow up = in spin state, the opponent can only block or get hit. because he’s in rage (where you cant block), all they can do is get hit. the AoA delay followup will be the starter. if they aren’t in awakening, it does huge damage.

there are some AoA shenanigans off freeze too, i dont think it’s as practical as this setup though.

on the subject of fighting narukami - dont sit on your items too long. by that i mean dont wait to hit them to use your next item for a setup. also make sure you pay attention to how they move - they’ll like to use dash 2b/5b to get in, you want to hit him out of the dash with 5a.

for pressure you can do the normal stuff. when you’re blocking him, 214a is a real pain because teddie’s 2a is 7f and his 5a is 10. b+d doesnt do much damage, and if he baits the reward is huge. block/backdash/b+d after getting hit/blocking 214a. if he does sweep in pressure, do delay b+d. against ziodyne and 5d (after knocking you down), b+d. the match is essentially moving him towards the corner as quickly as possible so you can even out the difference in damage

Thank you all for this thread! I really appreciate all the knowledge I’m getting here. Teddy for the win!
