Since when is the Daily Mail considered a reputable source? When I google this story I find reposts and various news outlets I’ve never heard of. I don’t what fantasy world you live in were you consider the ones asking for solid sources and evidence to be the idiotic ones.

It’s a crazy story alright (otherwise, no one would have bothered posting it here to begin with), but which part of it seems so implausible? I just laugh at all the people in this topic who are apparently either private detectives or have years of experience in Level II Trauma intensive care units, and go “yeah, that can’t happen!”
When just about every major news outlet is reporting something, with both facts and specific dates, and there’s no reason for them to lie, the refutation should involve more than a hunch from someone on the Internet, without a fucking clue on the topic.
“no reason to lie” sounds as if they can’t lie without knowing. people make mistakes. news has done it millions of times, trying to draw out a story a certain way when they themselves didn’t understand what was going on. there’s also bias.
in any case, there were a lot of weird things. understanding the behavior of animals, the mother bear bringing her cubs to the girl stands out as the absolute weirdest thing to me

…does sound pretty non-sensical. Logic would tell anyone that if you were being attacked by a bear and tried to call anyone, you’d make your best attempt to contact authorities so they can help you. Natural behavior of a bear attacking a human or animal to protect its cubs (the most likely reason why this happened) is to eliminate a threat. The fact that she was still alive, meaning the bear just stopped and left her there alive, was strange. And then the bear came back with its three cubs to eat something that could still potentially hurt its cubs. The story doesn’t really make much sense. That is to say, however, it did not happen; it’s just not any mystery as to why someone would question the story.
Just because a story like this is reported by a reputable news media outlet doesn’t mean it’s necessarily real. Major news media outlets have made mistakes and have been duped before. For example, the Washington Post had an article about dead babies being stuffed with cocaine as a drug smuggling technique. The newspaper later retracted the article because it was an apocryphal tale and there was no actual confirmation on whether or not that happened.
