Be the Match - Save a life at EVO!

Hi everyone,

I’m currently attending the local medical school here (Touro University Nevada) and my club, the Asian Pacific American Medical Student Association (APAMSA) is running a Bone Marrow Drive Registration table at EVO this year. The fighting game community is filled with some of the most passionate individuals I’ve ever met, and I hope you all can take a little bit of time out of your day to redirect some of that passion towards this life-saving cause. The process is entirely free and takes less than 10 minutes and is a simple cheek swab and registration paperwork.

Here’s just a tidbit of information in regards to why your help is necessary:

Each day, more than 6000 men, women, and children search the donor registry for a life-saving bone marrow match. Patients have a higher likelihood of finding a suitable donor from their ethnic group. Yet, only 26% of potential donors on the registry are ethnic minorities. Because of this, an ethnic minority patient will find a match on the registry only 30-40% of the time (compared to 80% currently for Caucasians). Nevertheless, bone marrow matches are possible across ethnic boundaries. Thus, we need donors of all identities, and as many as possible!
