man I can’t wait to get this game and fuck around with the combat.
if you hold punch / kick down while you dodge you get to pick up a combo where you left off. you can transition from air to ground combos this way too (i.e. pppkk in the air, hold k, dodge then k on the ground for the finisher)
That works with the charge/hold attacks too, like with the iai strike with the katana, you can still continue the string after the strike if it wasn’t the end.
My biggest fear in Bayonetta is how easy Witch Time will make the game. I hear a lot of people saying how responsive Bayonetta controls are. This is something I don’t quite understand because I felt Ninja Gaiden and DMC controls were responsive. I think people say this because of how the dodge can interrupt any combo string or move in the game at almost any frame of animation. So it has a feel of being more responsive. This is actually not a good thing imo. It decreases the risk factor tremendously. To top things off, you will most likely activate Witch Time and get a great reward for it.
In other words, it’s a turtlish system to say the least. It’s like it encourages you to just dodge all day. I have seen a lot of interviews on the game and they say the later difficulties are hard. Even if the game turns out to be hella easy it’s fun I admit it. Combos are the name of the game and getting platinums are not easy. Anyway I am curious to see what the developers have in store for us. I am hoping the enemies have awkward animations so it makes it difficult to dodge correctly. Or maybe even shortening the period of Witch Time on later difficulties?
I reserved the game on play-asia for PS3. I used the cheapest shipping for the 1st time. Cause I am getting Tekken 6 in the same month so I can’t afford 20 dollar shipping lmao. This is kind of a good thing for me because it will give me time to dive into T6 before I get my Bayonetta on.
Easily the best article ever written.
Some enemies have fast attacks and there’s always the element of surprise.
I haven’t played the demon, but I watch a video of the falling clock tower stage and that music was epic as hell. I want to play it just because of that. Bet this game is gonna have some of the best music in a game in a while.
Sounds good, guess we will know what surprises the devs have for us when it comes out.
SolidFox I’d say the basic angels are as dangerous as the Marionettes from DMC1. You can pound em into the dirt but if you get careless you’ll eat shit and there goes half your magic bar on top of the damage you took. These angels have a lot of attacks to. At least 3 per angel type depending on the weapon they are carrying so you gotta pay attention to what
This game is going to be crazy, so much fun.
been playing the ps3 demo a lot… i hate the poor job sega has done porting it to the ps3, i really hope the final product will be much better because the ps3 demo compared to the 360 demo is too bright and the colors look washed out, the framerate is choppy, and textures and stuff are lacking.
god they had better improve these things for the final release. i downloaded the tgs 2009 trailer from the japanese psn store and the game looked so much better than whats in the demo so here’s hoping the demo was just an older build of the game they wanted to tease people with.
here’s a comparison video of the 360 and ps3 version http://gamevideos.1up.com/video/id/26718
Thank you for bringing the PS3 port suckage to light . I though it didn’t look too bad, until I saw this comparison vid. I’m still liking the demo, It’s like DMC, but doesn’t feel like a clone. This is definitely a buy. I just hope they fix the issues in the port.
I also LOL’d at the “Converted by SEGA” message at the end of the PS3 demo. Platinum Games has pretty much disowned the Sony counterpart for some reason.
Yeah that is true, I can imagine later in the game they start to mix up enemies and weapon types. :xeye:
That being said I guess it won’t be a walk in the park. I remember the Marionettes in DMC1 DMD. Your completely right, they will tear you up if you get lazy or do something that warrants punishment.
I doubt they can fix these issues, they are something that require a lot more time invested to fix. That being said, many posters here have brought up good points on how the demo can’t be judged. Who knows if they spent much time on the demo anyway. I know that Platinum games was hesitant to show the PS3 version at multiple game shows. They even went as far as to complain they are not responsible for the PS3 port but Sega is. If you look past the issues you find a really solid action game. The more and more I play the demo, the more I love the game. I am currently exploring combo possibilities and tactics. Remember kids, air dodging is the best addition to an action game in a long time.

Sega always fails at doing stuff. I don’t even know why they are still alive. Seriously you let any Sega people work on a game and they will fuck it up worse than what Bush did to the economy.
I started to see comments about how technically/visually the demo was garbage, and I thought… wtf?
Then I realized I was playing on 360 ._.
I’m hyped as shit for this game after the demo. The presentation is great, the combos are numerous and pretty looking, and the torture attacks are amusing in their own right.
Not that I wasn’t already hyped, but I went from 8/10 to 10/10.
In all honesty though I did enjoy the PS3 version a lot. You guys have to keep in mind that fanboys really like to cut each others throat at any given situation. Since this is a demo also I’m not really worried. I didn’t experience much framerate loss only a little in some random places for like two seconds.
The Ryu ga Gotoku/Yakuza series says “Hi”. Border Break in the arcades also says “Wassup”.
When Sega has the RIGHT people involved, great stuff can happen. And it’s plainly evident to those who play the Yakuza series, especially the last few PS3 games. The new one, RGG4, due for next year, looks even better.
Whomever did the PS3 conversion job for Bayo though? Well, tis a pity. But don’t go putting the ENTIRE company on blast for the failings of one particular porting team.
Yeah not much puts the fear in me like the sound of a Bloody Marionette spinning up a shotgun blast. Shiver
Not to mention the amazing Valkyrie Chronicles. I think these days too manye people think Sonic Team=all of Sega.
How come no one will even entertain the possibility that perhaps Platinum Games coded Bayonetta sloppily in the first place, which is what’s making it hard to port?
Because it’s easier to blame Sega and people are dumb?
