Yo, so what’s the deal for Battle for Seattle? Is it happening? And if so when? The first I hear about this was this weekend at Paris’ house. I hadn’t seen any postings here about it, nor have I heard any excitement (IE for all them new guys “HYPE”) about this event what so ever…what gives?
Is this what Seattle majors are about now? Haphazzard promotion? Who the hell even knows about this? Doesn’t seem like this event is set for success, that’s all I’m saying…No offense to the Event Planner or nothing. I just wanted it to be aware that this event needs exposure, because I go on SRK about twice a day, and I JUST heard about this event :sad:
Oh relax son. Where them posters at? I had to google to find out what this was about. It’s on May 28th, and 29th for those who are going to come out. Might not come through to this anyway :sad:
-More fliers, at all events.
-Talk to folks at Gameworks (sneak in fliers?)
-Advertise at Sak Con.
-Reach out to some of the NW supporters, perhaps Cookie Carnage for a trailer to start posting online and in all forums pertaining to the event.
-Keep people up to date on the latest news, and if there is none, make some up. Just keep the thread bumped and the event on peoples minds.
-Talk to more people about it and hype the event up, get that word of mouth going. People should be talking to everyone about it…and would be if the interest was there.
as for fliers…ONLINE versions are the real deal these days. have a facebook event, twitter whatever, updated and managed…post online fliers everywhere players for the games present will look.
anyways. I’d love to see a big Seattle tournament happen.
Any chance to get a big name player to come to the event? Seems like a lot of the newer bigger tournament that are popping up heavily advertise around player “X” and “Y” (or however many there are) will be there.
I’m going to make another official thread on may 1st, there was already a planning thread, but it already died because I think I started it too far ahead of time so interest wasn’t steady.
Anyways, I already have a bunch of strangers I have never met who have pre-registered from the flyer and I’ve been doing a lot more than you probably know about, Mike. Maybe you could wait until closer to the event to criticize. Or better yet, I have a ton of flyers still and you are free to help pass some out.
I’m not that worried about attendance, the tournament hall has firecode capacity for 98 people at a time, as long as enough people register so that I break even then I am happy. So it’s funny to criticize my promotion when A) I never said this was a major and that my goal for it was as many people as possible, and B) Lots of people already know about it and are pre-registered.

BFS is part of Seattle Retro Gaming Expo, but we are our own hall in the hotel. So you will get free entry to the expo included with your venue fee, but the tournament hall from your perspective will be completely seperate and will be geared towards our community, there isn’t anything retro about it other than we will have arcade ST which is hella old. :tup:
BTW BFS was featured on the front page of SRK as well. It’s possible I will have to CAP the bigger tournaments, that is why I am trying to get the people that really want to play to pre-register.
Whoa whoa whoa. Calm it down Blake. Mickey isn’t tryin to come off dissin on your event. He’s just concerned that it’s not well known. Personally, I’ve heard that this event was going down, just didn’t know when (now I know).
Let’s nip this in the bud, before we have tons of posts going at each other throats to 1 or 2 posts about the actual event.
GET HYPE. I plan on going to this event. I’d pre-register, but I want to make sure that if I can’t make it it’s no big deal for me. I know a few guys from the Oly group are wanting to go too.
For those that want the basics, check out seattleretro.org (It’s been in my sig for a while). Right now I’m working on trying to get the Blaz Blue guys to show, do you guys know what the best site to get MK players to show is? I figure beyond us SF players there have to be MK players who don’t visit SRK that I should post on their forums…any ideas?
I’m in need of more volunteers to help run tournaments and other things, I have some goodies to take care of my volunteers, and I can do reduced entry fee for a handfull of them as well…oh yeah and volunteers get free lunch BOTH days gratefully provided by Keith. So if you can FOR SURE make it to either day and are willing to help out, let me know.
I know Slash is also going to be streaming for the event too. I have next to NO experience with streaming, so a few people to help out Mike would be great.
Right now of all the games I am most worried about Tekken having the least entries. Paris is my only contact with the Tekken community really, so it would be nice to touch base and let those guys know.
Oh, you guys don’t have any already? I assumed Pablo had already had some… can you tell me a day next week when I can stop by that you or Pablo will be manning the store that I could drop off some flyers to you guys?
