Battle Fantasia (DEMO UP JP/HK PSN) out now in JPN for PS3-Region Free/360-locked

This is exactly why I bought a PS3, imports…

this guy has vids if you want

Pretty much.

As broken as it is, I personally enjoyed playing it so I’m happy that it’s coming out

although I don’t care about this game at all since I don’t like polygonal fighters.

these news just settles it, I need a ps3

Hopefully this re-invigorates life into the game; I don’t know how popular it is in Japan though.

Seems weird it’s so close but I can’t find a release date at any of the normal haunts (play-asia or ncsx).

Infinites.
No unthrowable state when you get up (ie. meaty throws work, meaty command throws can’t be escaped without doing a reversal invincible move).

Those are the glaring system problems. There are some balance issues otherwise.

infinites? I never saw any other than the Ashley one, is there any others?
And for the no unthrowable state, where did you get the info? Actually back in november i did a few games of this to try, well i remember Watson has a good throw mixup at okizeme (kinda like Hisui’s Bento Setups in MB) but i didn’t get the impression you could meaty throw (but you sure throw a lot).

For me what made this game not played much is it’s very different from most recent fighters, average damage is kinda low, and its pace is very slow (that’s what i don’t like), there may are some issues on balance and other things but well japanese play games that are far worse in this aspects.

Only command throws can be done meaty, there is throw invincibility to regular throws.

I haven’t ever seen someone besides Ashley do an infinite, although I’ve heard it’s possible for some others.

There’s also unblockables, which Ashley and Watson both have one of. Watson’s loops back into itself as long as he has meter.

Frankly the biggest problem this game has is that half the cast has lots of interesting stuff and the other half is boring as shit. A lot of the time it seems like they are mixing 3S characters (Olivia) in with GG characters (Watson) and the result is pretty sad.

I remember hearing that Donvalve was top-tier when the game was still new, I guess this is why.

I sort of agree. All of the characters I want to play - Deathbringer, Face, Freed, Ashley and Donvalve - lean towards the 3s side of things, but I wouldn’t say they look really boring to play (at least from match vids I’ve seen). Characters like Urs and Marco do seem pretty boring, though. I guess I’m looking forward to playing something that’s a bit less complex and execution-heavy than the usual ArcSys offerings, while still being flashy and graphically appealing in its own way.

Edit: I do see where you’re coming from in regards to Watson and other, more GG-esque characters causing problems, though. Watson’s bear trap tactics after a knockdown look really harsh, and Coyori always seems to give opponents trouble in the matches I’ve seen. Similarly with Harry Potter (Cedric).

If ArcSys corrects the major game glitches (infinites, meaty command grabs) then I think the most broken (or annoying, at least) thing about the game will end up being the Heat Ups. Face, Freed and Ashley all have nasty Heat Up combos and tactics that leave the opponent helpless for a pretty long time, which might be a turn off to some.

Is there throw invul to regular throws? I see so many oki throws that I have trouble telling.
Though I guess there’s at least a few command throws in there. shrug.

Freed rushdown is so hilarious. Rushpunch rushpunch rushpunch overhead overhead rushpunch UPPA

Bump for May 29th release date.

Battle Fantasia for the PS3 on Play-Asia

Battle Fantasia for the 360 on Play-Asia

Pre-Order Time!!!

This game must have been what I saw at Sega City when I was in Japan last year! Nice to finally know what it is.

Any word on if the 360 version is region locked for sure?

OK, I don’t actually know anything about this game, but I wonder something…

In the translated interview nohoho posted, they mentioned multiple times that they were kind of the black sheep of Arc and there was constant pressure to make the game more like GG. They said that this led them to change the gameplay in various ways - maybe what you describe was a result of this?

I don’t doubt it at all. I feel kind of bad for the developers, they basically got shat on because they didn’t want to make another GG clone. Probably will never see any sort of sequel to the game.

Edit: Oh awesome, Watson has an infinite.

honestly ashley’s inf comes into play like 1/10 matches

the game is really well balanced. like really.

last time i was in japan most characters could be played on nearly equal footing with enough work

As a quick reminder, I’ve made a post on Aksys Games’ forums suggesting that they handle the release of Battle Fantasia domestically. Seeing as they did the NA release of Accent Core and have signed on to bring over Guilty Gear Overture as well, their relationship with Arc System Works seems to be pretty good.

The thread on their forum is here: http://aksysgames.com/forum/index.php?topic=140.0, so if you want to let them know that you’d appreciate it if they took on the challenge, sign up and make a post (thanks to those who have done so already).

Yeah I know. The infinite is just kinda annoying since Ashley is kinda annoying to begin with. I’m looking forward to the home release of it quite a bit.

Is this really coming out on 29th of may?
