Battle Card System - Japanese Arcade Style Ranking (TW - S1)

Using the program described here: (http://www.shoryuken.com/showthread.php?t=218837) I went ahead and plugged the information from season one of TW into the Battle Card System program just for entertainment values. I figured maybe some of you guys would be interested in checking out the resulting info. First off, a few points:

  • The system is a direct mimicry of the Japanese Arcade’s system, therefor it ties one name to one character. I chose to use S1 of TW to plug in here because people were locked into one character, the information was easy to find, and it’s relevant to most of the Seattle scene.

  • This is all information gained directly off of the uploaded video’s. I know I’ve missed a few TW’s myself and even if I went to all of them I wouldn’t remember each individual score (which is important to the program). The information was entered starting from the very oldest video, ascending upwards in order to the newest, ending with the most recent videos of the playoffs. I’ll re-update it after the finals as well.

  • Each player starts off at the BP (Battle Point) value of 1000, and the Grade Score of FFF. Each time someone plays another player, whether they win or lose, they gain BP. Winning awards more BP than losing, and for each round you win more than your opponent, you gain even higher BP. This is noted as the Margin.

  • Grade Score is directly tied to your BP. Once a person hits a certain number, they are promoted to that “rank”. Since the program is just copying the Japanese arcade, it takes quite a bit to hit higher ranks. If I recall correctly you have to hit 40,000 BP to hit Master status. Players rank up from FFF to FFF+ once they hit 5000 BP. General BP win/loss at the beginning level is about anywhere from 300 to 800 points per match. With the way things worked out, everybody from season one was either FFF or FFF+.

  • The system also keeps tally of win streaks, and they should hopefully be correct since I entered information from oldest to newest keeping in mind team order when I did so. Again I pretty much just spent two hours plugging in numbers just to see how things worked out, and just about the only useful thing you can gain from it was which players made the most impact throughout the season. One thing I would like to point out is that all players should be looked at equally because each and every one of us came to WIN. Though we know there are some gaps in skill levels between some players we all came to give it our all. Besides everyone noticed that there were quite a few upsets and anything can happen.

Without further ado, the information listed in order from most wins to least wins:

To conclude I’d like to leave one joke:
Even when looking from the top you can’t see Gouken. (Sorry Elliot I had to)

LOL i wanted to hit the “like” button for this. good shit ghhhhhhhrrrrrrkkkk

1st thing…WOW…I like the work done here ad I hope we can (someone computer savvy) can create a website to record wins and such and keep our stuff constant so over time we can see a real trend…

2nd…not to be an ass but how do I have the most points? I know I played alot but Eman has 1 more total win and 1 less total loss yet he has 200~ points less…Also Tanaka just straight beasting 13-0 and he has far less…

Edit: I looked at the matches…I had alot of clean wins which makes sense with the margin idea…still though I hope we can truly get somethin like this for SUPER…finally a top to reach for and some more motivation…

lmao Josh i was thinking the same thing. Anyway this is tight

We need to add this to the TW site or SV. It’s not hard to make this an excel file and just straight convert it to a webpage, i think it’s built in as a save option.

Did you include the playoffs in those calculations?

Yeah everything up to the playoffs was included. I could probably make a spreadsheet when I get home, I had things spaced out but the forums deleted most of the spacing probably due to some anti-spam code. I was gonna update it again after the finals though the playerbase will be a bit more skewered at that point since the teams playing in finals will have had more overall games but its not really a big deal. I’ll definately do this again for season two. I might start bringing around a laptop and running this file for sessions and tournaments as well. the only thing is that I either have to ignore the character aspect of the program or create a name/character combo for everyones main and alt.

Edit: just thought for a few minutes and skewered data is actually fine, since the program is meant to just keep a running total of player performances. Im thinking about whether or not to just keep season one data and run it with season 1.5 as well as a long term project since I think that’s what this program was origionally designed for.

Wow Ghrrk, good job - this is what I was talking about. A quick way to see how everyone is doing, not just the team. Imagine all this and more on a little personalized virtual card for every person at TW2:tup:

Yeah! This is awesome! POINTS, GUYS! POINTS!!

I’d like to see this installed in season 1.5 rather than in S2. Reason being, these personal rankings might deter from team dynamics, much like our debate over OCVs. But I guess I don’t know what I’m talking about because I’m not competing hahah

TOP 8 SON. Can’t see me, etc.

Fierce Feint Fierce**+** up in here.

The personal rankings are really just something I did for fun, just to see how individuals played out over a course of time. I’ve been thinking and I’m pretty sure I’m gonna roll these numbers over through season 1.5. As for season two I’m undecided on what to do since we’ll be playing SUPER FOUR instead and the program was designed for vanilla sf4. Since it banks on larger amounts of data earned over time it makes sense to me to just keep it rolling while people are improving and playing in the next season. It doesn’t really have anything to do with changing the spotlight from teams to individuals as each match is played the same way it would whether there is a team or not, and if people for some reason feel more motivated by seeing these silly numbers and rankings then I can’t help but feel like I’m improving the scene somehow. I don’t expect this to become integrated with the TW “franchise” or what have you would call it, I’m just personally going to run this as a side project openly viewable to the public. If Frank comes up to me and wants to integrate this somehow I’d be happy to oblige but otherwise this is just another statistic board to look at.

One thing I’d like to ask the public’s opinion on though:
Would you be more interested in seeing 1. Each persons individual score regardless of character’s used OR 2. Each person’s score to be ranked by the character’s as well?

The first option might be easier to implement and keep track of, as well it might be more along the lines of what we’re interested in seeing (Basically overall ranking per player)
The second option adheres more directly to the Japanese arcade’s style where each person has a different score per character, in fact a different card altogether. (Promotes single character use, possibly might promote leveling up with the one character philosophy).

Personal rankings are a good thing so you have something to work for…Team wise has not much to do with it to me because a team is greater than the sum of its parts…so it doesn’t matter if one part does better it’s what you do as a team that matters in the end…

It looks like you cut Vivek a little short there. Check our team breakdown below.

Well, Ghrrk said that this was only from the videos. I actually have 1 more win than listed too because my win against Munkyshyan wasn’t posted on youtube for some reason.

'RayMark | Zangief | 13 | 5 | 8095 | FFF+ | 4’
Damn! RayMark is a BEAST!!! For as much shit as people give this guy, he has the numbers to back it up. How the fudge did he play almost twice as many matches as me?! Anyways if you do this for season 2, I personally vote for a separation between characters because I don’t care about the win ratio per player. I wanna know my skill with my primary vs secondary characters. But that might just be me…

he got most of the wins for his team, and since his team didnt have the greatest record, he had a lot of chances to play. pretty much he played everytime his team went up.

Because I’m bored as fuck right now, I reorganized the rankings based on total BP. There are a few changes in the list:

Bokkin | Akuma | 14 | 5 | 8951 | FFF+ | 9

Further more, here’s the rankings for team totals:

Reset Demon: 19046
Grandmasters: 17898
Team Boss: 16299
TDP: 15929
FATS: 14861
Stretch Armstrong: 14573
Team Fight Bros. 12405
Team Underdog: 12107
Team Salt: 11891
Focus Cancelious: 11749
The Wolfpack: 11728
Team Jurassic: 11716
The Untechables: 9711
ESL: 8799
Team Shenanegans: 8450
Starvengers: 7122

Glad to see a little more interest already. As I said all the information was directly taken from the videos, and all in all there were 246 entries by the time I was done. The only exception I could remember was when my team fought TDP and I lost to Mickey D 0-3. I added that out of memory. If you guys recall certain matches which weren’t uploaded for whatever reason I’ll do my best to include them but win streaks will get a little fuzzy after that. So far I have one vote by JTS for records to be seperated by character. I think I’ll just make a poll so its easier for everyone to vote. Also Dustin I’m not sure what I’m missing there for Vivek, I count a total of 7 wins and 5 losses with the win streak capping out at 5. Either way I’ll be at bloody knuckles tonight to record, play and later update. See you all then.

Edit: I can’t really figure out how to add a poll by editing my message. Will work on this a bit later because I have to leave for work in a few. Worst comes to worst I’ll make a new thread.

Oh, my bad Ghrrk. The quoted part that I had, I bolded the where the mistakes were, check your original post.
