DC has had, Batman and Superman…They’ve been doing a pretty good job of it. Marvel has been hit or miss… I need to rewatch Superman and see if the CGI is as bad as it is in Marvel movies.
@saitsu, I don’t get the DC hate (modern 2005 and up), marvel hasn’t been omfg to warrant the praise. Out of all the Marvel movies.
Guardians of the Galaxy, and Hulk with Norton where the best ones, and Captain America 2 is the only thing that comes close.
Marvel has had
-Iron Man 1 2 3
-Thor 1 2
-Captain America 1 2
-Hulk (Norton)
-Avengers
-Guardians of the Galaxy
I totally “get” that people don’t like the “gritty” thing DC has been doing, but it’s because of that “grittyness” that I prefer Batman 1 and 2 (3 could have been the best one, but that’s another story), and Man of Steel over anything Marvel has done except for Guardians and Hulk. It seems to me, that people are so hung up on confirmation bias with the Batman movies because of the cartoon, and especially of the Superman movie because he “killed” Zod.
It’s not like I’m saying DC has been awful but they certainly haven’t been consistent. Hell even in your first post you gave it away. They have Bats and Supes but in reality that’s ALL they have. Any venture that DC has done outside of those two properties on the big screen tends to go south in a hurry. They have not shown a damn thing that should lead anyone to have faith in them doing any project outside of those two correctly, at least on the big screen.
You mention Marvel has slipped up at times. Well they have put out a ton of movies at this point. No one’s impeccable, just ask Pixar about Cars 2. But the closest thing Marvel has had to outright bad movies since taking over are Iron Man 2 and maybe the Thor movies (I’d say the Thor movies are just mediocre more than anything but they do their job setting everything else up). That Iron Man 2 issue? Being nothing but advertisement for the Avengers. It’s the same problem Amazing Spider-Man 2 repeated and it’s the same exact thing that I guarantee will kill BvS in the end. You would think studios would learn from IM2 but after the Avengers all they see is dollar signs for an expanded universe with absolutely no idea on how to properly execute such a plan.
Marvel planned to do the MCU from the start. Neither Sony or DC did. Both their plans just reek of follow the leader with absolutely no comprehension on how to do it right. Throwing as many characters as you can into one movie to start a universe is not how you do it. On top of that, Marvel has shown that they can get people invested into very niche characters. No one knew jack shit about the GotG and now everyone can’t get enough. Hell Iron Man was the same way before it initially came out. Thor is the only one they struggled with but the Avengers did him and Loki justice anyway (I’m one to think that Thor tends to work best in an environment with other heroes anyway). DC however has people arguing whether they even did Supes correctly (an argument I am NOT going to get into right now because it never ends well). You think they can get audiences to invest in Cyborg? In Aquaman? Hell I don’t even think they can do it for Wonder Woman right now.
And the worst part is DC has shown absolutely no faith in themselves either. When you don’t feel that BATMAN VS SUPERMAN can stand up on its own damn merits, that shows me a very weak minded company who has no clue what they’re about. They try to bolster it with a Justice League prologue and they ran from a fight with Cap 3. Someone was going to have to move dates, but again, when you’re BATMAN VS SUPERMAN you shouldn’t be moving for everyone. You should be standing up, reveling in the badassness that you’re about to unleash and you make Cap 3 move and honestly Marvel probably would’ve relented. Instead it’s like they were playing chicken and they swerved 3 seconds after the start.
Viewers have no faith and the studio has no faith. DC’s been doing a pretty good job of it? Apparently they themselves do not think so because they have not shown it.
so just to be sure, does this all mean no new solo Superman or Batman movies until next DECADE?
And all the DC heroes are going to be half (or even 1/3) Batman’s age?
And Cyborg and Aquaman are getting solo movies (which is the equivalent of the WWE giving Hornswaggle a title push)?
I sure hope Gal doesn’t gain any weight or get injured or nothing, in the next 6 years or so.
I just can’t get behind the decision to cast Affleck as Batman. Not because of him specifically, I think he’s a fine actor and looks the part. But I really want to see Batman and Superman as contemporaries and friends, not Batman as a mentor on the verge of retirement. Maybe have Batman active for five years or so tops, not 20 years older than Clark.
I can somewhat deal with decision to cast Affleck. I don’t like it, but I can deal with it. My beef is with 60+ year old Batman starting the Justice League with his Social Security cheques.
Well at least (and I can’t believe I’m actually saying these words considering the state of things before a few years ago) we have the CW for our real DC fix.
sorry, couldn’t hear you over the sound of the palm of my hand hitting my forehead with the strength of a nuclear bomb.
Spoiler
I’m hearing they filmed a scene that involves a party that Lex Luthor throws, that just so happens to have most of the JLA invited there as their alter-ego’s or some shit, to reveal everybody. That will likely be the first time you see Bruce/Clark/Diana in action together.
Word on the streets is that Bruce Wayne (not Batman) and Lex Luthor get into a battle so wild, the US military gets called in to break them up, for some reason.
I hope Cyborg get’s introduced as one of those dude’s who chills in the bathroom, turning on the taps for you and offering you paper towels and a spray of cologne, in exchange for a dollar.
