The over reaction to this is so silly IMO. Yea its not typical joker but neither was ledgers version. And its not like that type of villain has never been seen in other types of movies and been scary. Jokers never been one to beat someone up anyway, hell have thugs do it, come in later and torture you…which we see him start to do in the trailer

the only issue i had with man of steel is how the whole movies had a grey layer thrown over it and the muted colors of his costume. other than that i didnt find it too dark, just serious

will smith as deadshot doesn’t work for me because smith cant seem to break character, he’s one dimensional like denzel but denzel did become a murderer and was pretty convincing in that one movie
You can take risks like that when you remember what the character is at their core… It’s why stuff like Kingdom Come and For the Man Who Has Everything works, and why One More Day fails.
Zack Snyder seems to have a tenuous-at-best grip on who and what Superman is… It feels like everything he knows about Supes comes exclusively from Frank Miller’s character assassinations.
Which is part of the reason Man of Steel, while decent on its own, leaves you with a that “off” feeling after the credits roll…
It seems BvS(aka Dark Knight Strikes Again: The Movie) is the movie he actually wanted to make, and MoS was just his way of getting there.
If you had just questioned Snyder’s ability to write a true superman that’s one thing. Others and I have similar horrible feelings and concern about that jackass Johns and Bats.
But you took it to a crazy rigid “Alien God must always be happy and cheerful” level, that’s dumb.
That’s also part of the reason I wished they would have adapted Injustice into a movie instead. A great well written story featuring a dark Supes on the big screen would break that mentally with alot of Supes fans.
Also… Injustice Supes isn’t really the bad guy. People need to realize that he’s still Superman… He’s just not kidding himself by believe mankind is gonna get its shit together on its own anymore, and dumb ass Bats and friends keep on fucking with him.
Also Injustice proves that Joker is always right on the money about Batman and how much of a control freak he is.
The argument isn’t about how Superman feels, it’s about the overall tone of the series. Batman can be about street level crime, rapes, murders, and all that, but Superman comics, stories, and movies, don’t need dark, depressing stories to be successful. Shit like that works in comics like Batman, Daredevil, Punisher, and so on. I have a friend who won’t give Flash a chance because it’s not dark like Daredevil (his words). I wanted to bite the bridge of his fucking nose hard enough to leave scars.
I think Injustice will one day become a movie. It’s probably the best Superman vs Batman comic that doesn’t involve fake death’s, or ignoring the fact that Supes would win a one on one fight if he really wanted to. I like it better than DKR.
