Normally I would agree with you…if I wasn’t convinced fucking Will Smith spend half his screen time throwing out shitty one liners and overacting. Starlord worked alot because the actor was also more if an unknown with less of a specific style. Plus the writing was top notch. This movie doesn’t have the same immersion because Smith is TOO famous.
Plus you also fucking up comparing Marvel to DC when the latter hasn’t shown NO WHERE NEAR the care with their characters.
I think my concerns are valid. Have no faith in Smith being the guy to put Deadshot on the map.
On top of that, Star-Lord was a leading character because he was leading a bunch of ragtag unknown misfits himself. When no one is really known, performance can make one stand out. It would’ve been a LOT harder for StarLord to be a leading character if his team involved fucking Iron Man.
Deadshot is screwed from the start when Joker (and Harley to a lesser extent) are already A-Listers on his team.

Leto has acting chops but isnt the most fame oriented person, and Harley was in Last years hot movie so the scale and scope of the cast is pretty similar to GOTG
I will agree on the point though that a lot of the success is going to depend on which Will shows up, will it be fresh prince/ summer blockbuster Will, or as Pursuit of Happyness showed us he can be a good character actor too, and it seems that’s the culture they are going for on the set.

Yeah, hes one of the stars in parks in rec, and a pretty well known and noticeable character, but if you dont watch that show, and didnt see zero dark thirty, then its pretty easy to not know who chris pratt is.
Deadshot is already a leading character so saying he’s not makes no sense. Deadshot been the central character in the team books he’s been apart of (Suicide Squad, Secret Six). He’s more essentially to the team than Harley. Joker isn’t even a member of the team in the movie so he’s not in a position to one-up another other team of the team.
Ya, even with its flaws, man of steel was a great superhero movie compared to other shit like spiderman, that has had 5 fucking movies, and still cannot get the shit right. How you gonna get progressively worse (spiderman).
With marvel movies having more ha ha moments, with quick witty banter, i think the mood of man of steel threw off a lot of the whiners, cause clearly most people liked it, as it made a billion fucking dollars. I enjoyed the tone of the movie, the color, the soundtrack. The only 2 moments that could have easily been better were the tornado scene, and lois falling away from a blackhole. Neither scene is unforgivable, that i dont wanna tune in for more henry cavil.
Zack snyder makes movies with mistakes, but he generally still tends to get most of the movie right that he does. Its funny to read batman vs superman criticisms, when the very first argument hump we had to get over was superman doesnt kill ever under any circumstances, and we all know he has, but people argued that like their life depend on it, and then when they were wrong, it was like, but da damage, and then, well you know.
sony and fox have been getting marvel movies wrong for a long time, and not that those have not come without criticism, superman is like the punching dummy of nerds for some reason. They get so fucking mad about superman not being perfect to the T of the comic, and let everything else slide for other movies, like those wack nolan batman films, to which the second was only saved by some general awesomeness of other characters.
I cant wait for next year when the first wave of hate is, why is this a movie, how can batman ever fight superman, and then the explaining continues, until they realize the movie is actually fine, but they are still dissatisfied because where is my tony stark character with the funny 1 liners.
I knew some wannabe smartass was gonna bring the team book up lol. I read that book a bit and most people did because of Harley and King Shark. Harley and the side characters stole the show. Deadshot basically just rode that wave then fell off again because nobody really cared about him. Even the team who wrote the book had no faith in him because it seems like Harley was on the cover more than he was. And was given as much of a focus as he was at least.
He was given one of the most popular characters in comics as a girlfriend and still couldn’t sustain a strong fanbase. They gave him a forced ass Roman Reigns push and it failed the same way.
Also you know damn well I was talking about being a leading character in a movie. He got outshined in the COMICBOOK version of the team. I don’t have faith in a goofier Will Smith version being the focus movie.
Suicide Squad existed pre-new 52. Deadshot is a permanent fixture of the group. He’s been in every version of the team since it was re invited as a government sponsored team of villains. Every time the Squad appeared in other media it was always Deadshot that took point. Deadshot was the lead of the Suicide Squad episode of JLU, Deadshot was the co-lead on the episodes of Arrow that focused on the Squad, and Deadshot is the lead in Assault on Arkham. The Joker was in the last one and he was there in a supporting role.
Never read the new 52 Squad but if Harley became a break out in that book that’s great. It still take nothing away from Deadshot who is historically the face of the group.

I always considered Amanda Waller the face of the Squad but whatever. She’s more important than he is in every facet of the books.
Deadshot didn’t really get the spotlight and focus till N52 version that this movie appears to be taking alot from. Before that he always came off as just another guy on the squad to me. There was a huge tonal shift between the older and newer I felt. Could have just been me.
Regardless if they are going with a Deadshot focused story they need a different actor. Other wise they need to put the film on Leto’s back and let him and Harley actress try to carry this to decent.
Waller isn’t that important. The Squad can exist the way it does without her. She’s merely their handler. For instance, in the JLU episode it was Flagg who handled the team.
Deadshot got plenty of spotlight pre-N52. He had a mini in 2005. It was in that book where his daughter Zoe made her debut and make changes to the his character that you see in the current comics and other media adaptions. He was one of the core members of the Secret Six where he had a great bromance with Catman. That’s where he was at until Flashpoint hit.
