“Downfierce, Light Headbutt (Clean or Trade, into Ultra if I want), NJ.FP, J.FP, S.Strong, EX DS (Characters like Bison with lopsided jumps or fast jumps where I want to stuff a jump/jumpattack and push them back) heck this week I connected multiple TAP // Rush-Uppers // EX Rush Uppers into Ultra purely because I noticed horrible jumps by opponents (Mostly lolsome Back-Jump Fireball Akumas) but the option is there.”
Yes your right i stumble upon this when an opp jumps in and i use ex upper…sometimes i can connect c.lp, c.lk, into HB then Ultra. I find the ex upper a very usefull tool especialy vs Dhalsim’s who yoga fire at midscreen and punish with ex upper, c.lp, c.lk, HB-Ultra.
Regarding the j.lp instead of j.hp good point never used j.lp to bait them into thinking its a j.hp. Because of the block stun, i could throw them. Il check that one out for sure! Thanks.
You’re very welcome - I gave it a few tries before but it’s not wise doing so against typical onliners who love mashing SRK’s for 75% of the match and never really bothered to use it since, I keep forgetting >.<
Anyhow, modded my game a bit and it got me into a big mood for SF4, had a nice long session with someone from ArcRec and recorded a few matches of my current gamestyle if anyone would like to lend critique. Unfortunately for the chap it ended about 18-3 in my favour so I didn’t think to upload the losses

I really need Abel help - He scares me and that makes me antsy and throw out desperation moves to try and get him away which usually leads to big damage or flat-out losses. I hate Abel more than Zangief (And I’ve no love for Zangief). I’m never any good at footsies or zoning and most attempts to push Abel out with FS.Jabs often fails though I do like it to prevent WheelKicks when I’m approaching.
I got lucky against him that time and must say I’m quite happy with the funky AA TAP into SUPER.
vs AKsBreaK3R: Don’t go on the offensive against Blanka, wait it out and punish his options. Outside of throws and a handful of pokes Rog can punish basically every option he has. While you win in the first video with that EX low dash punch it is VERY unsafe. If it had been blocked you would have lost the match from his reversal ultra. Play it safe in this matchup… always.
Posting from work and out of time for lunch, will post back later with some more feedback if I have time
Not much to talk about, some things here and there in the first round but after that the Abel player didn’t know what to do. He tries to connect two c.mp’s instead of c.mp xx COD, and uses c.mk after a jump-in…
Post some more videos vs. Abel players and it’ll tell us more about how well you know the MU.
but anyway, I suggest you try and eliminate the habit to focus attack abel’s jump-in, it’s a bad idea. While balrog releases the punch, he can land and EX-TT. Focus absorbing and dashing is fine.
After blocking step-kick xx dash, don’t EX dash straight. There’s really no reason to ever use EX-dash straight right in abel’s face. you’re just setting yourself up for mix-ups.
Also, use KKKKK for the U1 sequence. It’ll hit in mid-screen and corner and finish with more damage than PPKKK…which can whiff more often, as you saw in the video.
Well I’m not really a good Boxer so it’s even. Also, as you know, it’s GFWL PC - Hard to find good players of any character so I can only offer what I get.
That person in question mains Cammy and he eventually started messing around with alts, was the first time I’ve fought an Abel in ages and it just reminds me how annoying I find the MU. I’ll try find some better clips or more experienced Abel’s.
Tried uploading vids of me failing completely in every aspect. Dropped combos (something I loathe more than anything), missed punishes, and failing to block correctly.
This is all Vanilla PC

When it comes to Abel, seeing as how I never come across a decent one, I’m completely free. I was ticked into so many TTs that I almost cracked. I tried to do something but Abel is such an offensive-rushdown type. Like a more mobile Zangief. I played 10 games with the guy and he used Abel 6/10 times.
Viper I usually have no problems with. That day I was having an off day and couldn’t do anything like I wanted at all.
I play oAL3ZAYo a lot so I’m used to Gouken. It’s just I gotta go for bigger punishes and stop eating a lot of focuses.
About the Abel match theres just one thing that basicly screwed you and its that it was free for the guy to keep jumping in on you, More AA with c.hp or st.mp will solve the pressure. If you watch the match again you will see that thats what hes doing to you. Some things I like to do is keep Abel at St.hk distance so I can react to Abels mk and also st.jab wheel kicks.
On knockdown its very important you dont let him roll out, wich can be Option selected (from a safe jump) and watch his meter, no meter do a meaty jab or c.mk and you get the pressure. If he has meter its 50/50 almost where a meaty grab wins over ex.TT and meaty attacks win over regular TT :/.
Videos may be crappy quality. I’m using the cheap capture card “EasyCap” *
In some of these matches, I don’t know when to be defensive or when to be aggressive and rushdown. I have other problems as well that I may not be able to see.
I’ve just started using Balrog, I find some matchup very hard like the Abel and Akuma ones.
I know I’ve to learn to zone better, and I spam too much turnpunch, but I fear a lot Abel, especially focus and his f.mk.
Look at the input, I’ve never succeed in escaping the f.mk kick with a backdash, the time is so tight
Any other tips/errors? I know that sometimes I miss some combos, that just practice.
in the 2nd fight instead of ending the fight u walk forward and went for that combo you should have just ultrad it would have been barely scaled and almost full dmg and u wouldn’t have burned meter like u did on that whiffed rush upper AND you would have won that round and at times you play too afraid of abel yeah abel is dangerous close but you have a tendency to back off full screen your at a better place when you are just out of his foot range so you can play footsies cuz abel rog is more of a footsie fight you can rush down a bit unlike gief but you tend to fight them run away style or you just go full on in you don’t really play that middle ground which rog shines in u just have to watch abels forward mediums i usually head but as soon as he does it because 80% of the time they dash forward and do SOMETHING and headbutt beats everything but lows and abels almost never go for a low they are usually fishing for a tornado throw or reg throw when they do that
Thanks for your comments.
I’m a Dhalsim player, so I’m very scared vs Abel
I only use TAP level 1. After a blocked f.mk I tried to backdash but I fail the timing. I know I can HB but It’s not safe, especially if he use delayed light attacks. I need to improve at medium distance. Which normals do you advice me? I fear a lot FA, because either s.hk than cr.hk can be focused lev.2 + ultra
