Balrog Thread

Just macro 3x kick into the LB or LT button.
Thas the black buttons on a SE or TE stick for those of you that dont know.

This way you can charge with your pinky finger.
No more pain in you hand from charging TAP!

By using macros one can simplify execution, but loses one of the ST Rog weapons: the ability to either TAP or (negative edge) kick rush at any instant.

Ryu has issues with Rog for a number of reasons. Not sure a single one makes the whole difference, besides super, but they sum up to make him a very solid enemy for Ryu.
[]The damage he does is very high: anything trades on Rog’s favor and any enemy has to find a way around Rogs offense not before time out but before getting killed;[]His jump ins, when close, may prevent Ryu from standing to execute a SRK;[]For the same reason, he does not need to wait for the descending part of the jump to punish hadoukens, which prevents deep SRKs;[]SRK whiffs against cr.strong;[]SRK nerf from Super to ST makes it very hard to beat headbutts with it: more often than not, Ryu’s SRK loses cleanly;[]Rog has anti-air answers for jump ins with or without a down charge;[]unlike Honda, Rog has both floating fierce and evading moves (headbutt) to deal with hadoukens;[]Similarly to other high tier characters (Sim excluded), Ryu does not have a guaranteed aerial roundhouse crossup after a knockdown: as with Chun, he can only force him to guess between a normal crossup (Rog can not crouch) or a tatsu crossup (Rog can duck and often get a free throw after it);[]Ryu’s ground mixup (meaty cr.fw, overhead swing, rush punch) is nullified if the Boxer player is good at single button reversals (read jab headbutt and eventually strong throw);[]On a match Rog already dominates, super means a much better advantage for the boxer than for Ryu, and odds are Rog will get his first.
Simply put, the standard hadouken shoryuken sweep strategy does not work so well on Rog. Also, Rogs holds and meaty combos work fine on Ryu and do the same high damage anyone else takes, but those are not character specific.

Not everything is bad for Ryu, tough. I feel Rog has such good options most the time that he is somewhat forced to commit to them. They often get predictable and eat SRKs after hadoukens or other high recovery moves. Ryu’s standing strong is also a good weapon: it beats almost any rush punch, and TAP of course, but that is a given since it has shit priority. After a knockdown, while Rog’s arsenal makes it a bad idea for Ryu to aproach him on the ground, his reversal has somewhat long startup and makes it easy to time safe jumps. He can then try some throws, SRKs or overhead swings as follow-ups.

Hold against Zangief in the corner, walk under, ground cross up TAP. Can’t say I’ve seen this before.

Good summary. I feel that ShootingD has the best anti-Boxer Ryu in Japan – his maintaining of mid-range spacing and excellent defense make it a tough fight for most Boxer players. I’d link some vids but it’s a simple “ShootingD boxer” search on YouTube.

Don’t forget zaspacer’s site.

Why dont you include American Boxers, such as Afro, Gram…and others.
Hell, maybe even me. I think i’m at least 80% mastery of Rog by now.
The only thing i cant do with Rog is link into his Super.

Also, @ Oldschoolbr
You can Neg Edge with the Macro…but you can only do the light upper.
So its only the short distance one.

But when NE do you ever use the Roundhouse upper?
Do you really need to chase someone that far?

Zaspacer took that list of players and the “mastery” numbers from NH2’s blog. NH2 cites the original reference there and states that the mastery numbers are “rather arbitrary, and simply the opinions of anonymous nerds on a thread.” To say the least, they don’t actually mean much.

I do not play Boxer, kevgeez. I suppose either never or almost never, but you’d be better off asking Afro (from whose posts I learned about the issue in the first place) or whatever other good/top boxer player. All I know is some Ryu vs boxer, as I play Ryu, and it is unlikely that one will try a full screen rush against a projectile character.

Yo kev, sup? Remember me, from ggpo? Anyways, just want to show you this vid I made with boxer’s super combo. Its very easy! Even easier than mastering rog to a 80% :woot:

somebody wanted a combo including a standing jab to super, so this time i did it (difficult as hell to do on kb)

Except I don’t think any Dhalsim will ever allow you to just set that up. :stuck_out_tongue:

This was 2 years ago, we are both a lot better now, I hate watching my old videos cus I didn’t know about a lot of stuff back then.

its not impossible to do that in a real match, but i think its almost impossible if you are fighting a decent sim with good spacing

cool.
But its even harder on a live opponent.
For some reason, some characters are allowed to duck in the middle of Rog’s combos.
So the S.jabs miss.

Lets say the opponent is crouching.
That combo wont hit at all.
I want to find out how to make people stand up so i can do whole combos.
I noticed that when i first played Afro last Summer…somehow, he kept making my character stand up.

my fault, that Nitro name is my friends’ login name.
I’m at his house and forgot to login my name.

Luigi I noticed that you are getting a lot better with Rog.
Good to see.
But dont think Dics not gonna still whipp your ass on a regular basis!
lol

Nitro, it is not that people can duck in the middle of the combo. It is that their hitbox stays the same during the combo and when you do st. jab, st. jab misses ducking opponents so that it doesn’t combo. So some combos can only be done on ducking opponents and some can only be done on standing opponents, etc.

i would do that combo when my opp. is dizzy.

BNB’s plz?
