Balrog Thread

what do you guys say… are these balrog’s strongest combos (non ex and into super)?

Couldn’t figure out why I was struggling so much with rog until I saw this video ( I play on pad)

I’ve been in the lab trying to activate pandora after final TAP, but it seems that there’s much more recovery frames the longer its held

Yep, that’s something I learned while recording this. Final TAP has a longer recovery than the lower level TAPs. With a low level TAP you can combo it directly into super after wall bounce. With Final TAP you need to do a cr.MP into super. I need to record a video of that too later.

As promised! A crazier combo that makes Balrog the current champ for SFxT combo damage:

loooooooool that is hilarious and amazing XD

Rented the game and probably just gonna keep it. Outside of the sound problems and lag (stage music sucks too), so far I am liking this Steve/ Rog team. Never really got into Tekken, but Steve seems kinda tight with the kick button movement stuff.

Anyhow, not specifically Rog related, but I keep getting smashed by the Heihachi ground bounce combo that you can’t get out of (?). Any tips, or is there something blatantly obvious I haven’t tried yet? I am talking about where he knocks you down then stomps and juggles into a uppercut. Frustrating as fuck just watching that much life disappear.

I mained Rog in CVS2 but didn’t use him much in the 4 series. I think Rog has potential to be my main in this game so I will be checking in on the boards. Thanks for the thread and some of the vids are tight so far.

I’m sorry, but I don’t understand the string. What do the numbers mean?

If you look at your numpad, each number corresponds to a direction on the player one side e.g. 1 = down-back, 46 = back, forward.

So i’ve been lurking on this thread for a while and feel like I might need a hand with Rog.

I need a decent BnB off of the Rog Meaty I’ve been using after I get a knock down, I try to hit confirm into a combo but it just isnt feeling smooth.

What I’ve been trying is j. :hk:, cr.:lp: > cr.:lp: xx :mp:headbutt cr.:mp: xx :hp:dash straight

Also, I haven’t seen a really reliable hitcom combo either. I’m pretty green and need to get at least a few BnB so I can concentrate on basics.

Help a noob out, thx

After a jump in, you can do cr. mk > cr. mp instead of two cr. jabs. Alternatively, you can replace your first cr. lp with cr. lk, which should be easier to use (same start up as jab, more frame advantage on hit/block)

Some hit confirmable combos:

cr. mp (or fs. mk) > fs. lp xx fs. hp xx launcher: (hit confirm into magic series if you happen to connect with a poke during footsies. You’ll need really good reactions though.)
cr. lk, cs. hk, cr. mp xx any dash special. (walk-in combo; no need to charge before hand. probably the best damage you can get off a walk-in cr. lk, but requires a one frame link and is situational.)
cr. mk, cr. mp, fs. lp xx any dash special. (walk-in combo; no need to charge before hand.)

You can also try cr. lk, cr. lk, fs. lp. Probably the easiest execution-wise, but the damage kind of sucks.

Has anyone found a reliable way to make jumping lk to cross up. It happens so rarely for me.

Thanks rainscape, guess I need to get the cr. mk, cr. mp link down. I’ve been avoiding it because I have trouble with the tighter frame links.

I have no idea why I’m having trouble with this, maybe it’s the rolling from db to b for the fs. lp. I’ll keep working on it since they only walk in combo I’m using right now is jabs into cross rush.

I’m too terrible to ever pull that off in game but thanks though, lol

I’m curious about the j. lk also, it just doesn’t ever seem to connect.

sorry dumb question but what is cs.

close standing my man

Gootecks has been doing some strong work tonight. He’s really make use of st.jabxxst.forward to keep people at that sweep range. He’s also showing that maybe Balrog is one of those special (read: Only) charge characters that’s better as anchor.

It might be, but I feel like Gootecks was not comboing to Balrog’s full potential? I dunno, I do not use Balrog. Either way yeah, the fundamentals were on display in great form.

Honestly Balrog isn’t very combo heavy. He’s not very damage heavy either. What I wasn’t though seeing was the low strong into headbutt, low strong dash-whatever that’s the usual BnB fair for Balrog. That makes sense though considering how obvious it was that Ryan was playing the match like it was still SF4.
