In an incredible set between Tokido’s Akuma and PR Rog’s Balrog, PR Rog came all the way back from Loser’s Bracket(beating Mike Ross, Justin Wong, and Wolkfrone in dominating fashion, might I add) to become the SSF4 Final Round 14 champion.
All you Balrog players thought Balrog was overrated. That he never won a major. That he was free on wake-up, especially against someone like Tokido’s Akuma.
Well, you’re wrong. Balrog is godlike, and can beat everybody and anybody if you’re good enough.
Congrats on taking home the first US Major for Balrog, PR Rog.
Rofl he is pretty free on wakeup. But he’s not free when he’s standing. I don’t think anyone who understands this game really thought rog was overrated.
yeh, I was really excited. Props to PR for dominating a match that’s very much not in Balrog’s favor (Character-wise). I was on the edge of my seat the entire set.
Starts around 01:07:00 mark. Its a really good set, the only crucial mistake PR Rog made was falling for that cr.roundhouse bait like five times in a row throughout the set, but then he supered him in the face that sixth time like “Ok, ENOUGH of that bullshit”. The offense, the defense, everything was really on point. Tokido was straight up frighten of Balrog in that last set.
Akuma’s sweep like Ryu’s (and other shotos) is punishable on whiff and block and that may have been what he was going for, i think Tokido just spaced/timed them really well.
Thanks for the link - My god, what a match and as someone who suffers as Rog vs Akuma in general, it was absolutely amazing to see PR as Rog make one of the best Akuma’s in the world crack with pressure, bloody hell.
Another massive congratulations to PR Balrog and a thank you for finally getting Rog some Fight Money, such an amazing set.
Except akuma’s sweep recovers like…3 times faster and it can be cancelled into a 500 damage ultra?
Anyways, this goes to show that even with a crappy wakeup blocking still gets you a long way in the akuma matchup. Too bad 95% of balrogs forget it and just get destroyed by df palm os sweep on wakeup because they try to do all sort of crazy shit EXCEPT blocking lol.
Congrats to PR Rog, one of the best, if not THE best grand finals i’ve seen in a major. Too bad Tokido cracked in the last fight…that panic teleport was REALLY stupid and the missed combo in the last round isn’t really usual for an execution master like him.
more like nerf the player than the character. PR rog was just on his freaking game and no-one could stop him, not even murderface. the way he manhandled all other’s before he got to the finals was impressive.
final round was played in super, and rog has received his box of nerfs for AE, although very small compared to other characters.
probably the most excited ive ever been watching a fellow boxer play besides when i first discovered maeda taison lol… had tokido shitting bricks teleporting into the corner and then proceeded to thrash his ass with raw u1… almost bought a tear to my eye
