Balrog (Boxer) Combos

So I just got back into the game since last November, and I’ve been doing horrible I used to be able to play half of the cast but now I am just terrible. So today I had a 4 hour endless lobby and decided to go back to my Vanilla days with Balrog and I have to ask what happened to the damage??? some of his damaging combos are all meh now. What are the New High damage combos in AE? can someone post them?

Rog’s damage is pretty shitty now, but here are some combos.
c.LP ~ cs.MP ~ c.LP xx Special (2 frame links)
cs.HK ~ c.MP xx Special (1 frame link)

My new favorite styling combo:

cr. jab ~ cs. mp x HP Headbutt

the one frame is after the freeze frame.

I’m perfectly aware of that. :slight_smile: But after testing, it seems as if some characters who have their ultras listed as 0+1 start up still can’t punish moves that are -1 on block.

which moves are you trying? I know you can probably do the attack, then switch the player to standing, and with the given spacing, attempt to normal throw, that’ll insure that you’re in range.

I noticed something recently with the j.hk/j.hp, cl.hk, cr.mp link On the cast in generally, and more so for crouchers, if you delay the cl.hk it’s easier to land the cr.mp link. I don’t think it hits meaty or anything like that, but it allows the opponent to recover from some of the blow back from the jump-in and be in range for cr.mp.

Hi there, decent rog player here. not that it matters but around 5k bp and 2k pp. I can do all the combos listed quite easily, but what does AA stand for? I would guess attack advantage but that wouldn’t make sense what is it?

Anti-air. in most cases, can’t think of any other uses for AA off the top of my head.

Oh that makes sense, the thought of an anti air that isn’t dp never crossed my mind.

yah, oddly enough, every one of balrog’s specials can be used as anti-airs.

I think that st.mp and cr.HP are his AA’s but I have used st.lp before.

st mp and cr hp are supposed to be AA, and st hp, st lp, crouch lp, st hk, st mk, st lk, cr hk have all got an opponent out of the air before for me.

cr.mp is pretty gdlk against weird jump-ins like gief’s j.mk or fuerte’s Tostada press (in that case in just deletes the hurtbox above the shoulders, so at specific angles it can be forced to whiff).

[]backdash ultra is much easier if you wiggle twice during the backdash so the inputs look like: :df:,:mp:+:mk:, :b:,:f:, :b:,:f:, :b:+:3p:/:3k: (You can sub the final :f:,:b: with :hcb: to make it a more fluid motion)

]Only lp.oh forces stand on CH, this may be useful, but I doubt it, the only predictable time OH gets CH is when opps are charging FA’s
[]Found some pretty damaging FADC combos that work crouching and standing. I think it’s safe to say that Balrog’s most damaging link is cr.lp, cl.hk, cr.mp or cr.mk, cr.lp, cr.mp. Both will hit on crouchers and allow enough time to regain backcharge if inputting after a dash punch or FADC.fwd.

This is also something i’ve been thinking about in terms of combos. Especially for those new to Boxer, this may be a really good idea to adopt.

I had something really weird happen last night at the crack session.

I hit a standing Dudley with cr. jab~ s. jab~ cr. jab~ cr. roundhouse

It registered as a 4 hit combo. Obviously the cr. jab into sweep wasn’t on counter-hit. But the first jab was.

It happened offline though so i have no video proof, but 2 other people saw it.

the cr.lp hit meaty mid combo. You can do a similar setup if you do the meaty jab setup (cr.hk, j.hp buffered cr.lp) and plink the cr.hk, it’ll combo since the meaty hits on the 2nd active frame (+8 on hit). Youll need to set the dummy to no block so it won’t auto-block the meaties.

there was a similar combo video with a similar setup on Ken. It’s really hard to hit jabs meaty mid combo, has a lot to do with the rhythm and when you hit with the cr.lp during the hit stun, since you can fire off the jab between 1f and 4f after you recover from the cr.lp, also has a lot to do with hitbox interactions and blowback etc. The video is somewhere in this thread, i think RopeDrink posted it, or around it mid 2010 maybe.
