I wouldn’t suggest it - it’d be complicating something that is already simple to do with practice. Just practice your timing - you’ll get it. I repeat - practice. Nothing will “ensure” links, but practice can make you better at doing them. Just learn the timing timing timing.
Someone should film their fingers tapping the links and post it on youtube so that people can get the rhythm.
Seriously, guys - no excuses. It ISN’T that hard. Practicing it will result in you learning it. I know you want tips on how to make it easier. ANY method a poster who knows how to do it will post may only be understandable to them. Just practice the rhythm until you get it. Simple as that.
That being said, I’ll tell you how I learned how to do it. Just think of a metronome, and hit the buttons in sequence. Have access to a metronome? Set it to 180 BPM and do this combo, hitting each button on each beat - cr. lp, lp, lk, hp headbutt. I didn’t learn it that way - I just sat in the UCD MUGA arcade, trying to figure out the rhythm. And I got it within minutes, and I am no top player.
Sounds confusing or complicated? Then maybe it will be if you try to do it the way I just described. In that case, JUST PRACTICE AND FIND OUT THE RHYTHM ON YOUR OWN. Stick with it and you will get it. STICK WITH IT. It really is that simple.
The loop isn’t that necessary, damage scaling ruins it. Only practical use is c.lp, c.lp, c.lk xx ex upper, c.lp, c.lk xx hp headbutt.
Try doing s.lk, c.lk, xx ex upper. Adds 10 more damage!
edit : romeo do you have xbl?
What’s up, Rex. The Sac tourney is hurting for some players - you should come by sometime
The loop can lead to some setups if your opponent isn’t used to blocking overheads haha. Do three reps, then cr. lp, lk / lp, lp xx EX Overhead and then bam - instant reset for huge damage, especially if you have Ultra. Just another tool in Balrog’s bag of tricks.
Check your city thread I posted.
That trick is good but not great, more advance players will catch it and punish. If your doing that against a Ryu with good reaction he can block and SRK fadc ultra.
But then again its all about your mixup game. I like to throw out a ton of low dash punches in the middle of my ex loop and randomly but very sparingly throw out the overhead for the mixup.
anytime they’re blocking is a good time for boxer, in conclusion? =P
I use overhead about once every match, the good thing is most people have the reaction time to stand up and block but not to dp out of it. the more you make them worry about how to block is the less they’re worrying about throws.
Like i said mixup game is the shit. But they still can DP on block.
Rex, no XBL. Just come to The City hahah
Yeah I thought that too. I remember reading it somewhere but lately I’ve been having trouble with the same combo because it seems I’m doing clp xx clk.
I know that clk x clp doesn’t work, but are you sure about clp x clk not possible either?
I’ve never tried mashing clk after clp to see if its cancelable or not but I will try it next time I play.
Thx
ok getting that practice in
What’s the input for doing the forward dash ultra?
charge (d) b, f, f, b, f + KKK/PPP
What do I do against people who FA spam. I keep getting hit by them when I jump in or when I do anything.
Try turtling. The drill punch is amazingly effective, too - I’ve often hit people twice in a row during tournaments. I’ll knock them down with the drill punch, then follow up immediately with a mk/hk drill punch. They’ll often focus or backdash - both cases, I’ll hit them. Sometimes I can even sneak in a third one haha.
Anyway, I think playing Boxer defensively is the best way to go. I love to be on the offensive and rush down, but I’ve noticed that I do best when playing patiently and defensively.
Alright thank you, I will try that.
Also, I noticed something else. You say you jump in. DON’T JUMP IN o_o. You’re asking to get wrecked, especially vs anyone with a DP. Boxer is strongest on the ground, so keep him there. Also, if you’re close when they’re spamming FA, abuse Boxer’s fast jab.
If you find they’re trying to FA your jump in attack all the time instead of trying to actually anti-air you properly, then simply mix in some neutral jumps and go for a throw. This can then set you up for a nice ambiguous crossup or more or less puts the match momentum in your favour.
I think you meant empty jumps, but yes, that’s a very good tip as well. If you land in time, you’ll always grab them and they won’t be able to tech.
I think if you do a safe jump your ok. Against a character with a DP you gotta selectively keep the pressure on.
