Sweep cancelling is a joke, I agree. Fake fireballs just make his zoning better. As for the Donkey Kick(HK) being safe, it’s not a big deal, Ryu has always possessed frame traps. Now, if you would like to talk about Raven…I’m all ears! Oh, and Rufus too.
And guys, he’s Ryu! It’s not like we all haven’t faced a million online…LOL. People always hating on the no gimmick no bs guy, give him a break.
From my limited Japanese:
Kazuya - infinite fixed.
Kuro - some bug about his movement after charge cancelling was fixed, and that cr.mp infinite is gone
Xiao - her qcb+mp move’s air juggle property becomes like qcb+lp, so no more infinite
Pacman - s.lp, s.lk’s knockback on hit was changed so you can’t hit more than 9 hits in a row
Jin - His lp -> mp -> lk chain when the opponent was hit in the air, the opponent falls to the floor faster (no more swag kick?)
The first hit of his 6 hit chain, when counter hit it becomes +2.
Dictator - Fixed his 5th attack of his super not being blockable(?)
Ogre - the hit attributes of his cr HP was changed, that you can not use it to juggle (or cannot juggle afterwards?)
Juri - lk pinwheel on stand block becomes -5, mp pinwheel on block (both crouching and standing) becomes -10
Rufus - Something about his dive kick hitbox change, now that the fastest dive kick will be -4 on block
Zangief - Quick double lariat’s 3rd hit will not reach crouchers
Quick Combo - Changing the priority of the commands so you cannot override it so that for some characters you can make them stay in the air after doing some button combinations(?)
Vertical jump command priority change - now vertical jump command cannot override diagonal jump input.
Throw and tag out at the same time - the bug about you can throw characters that are getting tagged out is fixed(?)
AE Ryu is good, but he’s also perfectly balanced for the game. SFxT Ryu literally has every number and tool in the game:
All Lights are 3 frame start up, and +2~3 on hit. His cr. Forward has great range and cancels into Hadoken (classic shoto poke), but the crazy part of it is that he can CADC his fireball for free meter and to bait jump-ins/anti-projectile. His biggest weakness (down time post-Hadoken) is almost completely negated by how he can cancel and backdash it. All of his overheads combo and switch cancel incredibly easy, and his Donkey Kick is not only so safe you can throw it out randomly, but has unbelievable combo potential. He can pair with any character and create combos in excess of 450 damage with very little effort while simultaneously building meter with CADCs and safe pokes.
He can also CADC his sweep (which is tied for the fastest in the game), has decent walk speed, and one of the best reversals in the game that often flat out beats, if not trades with, most aerial assaults. Mind you, that reversal, on trade, also sets him up to land his super incredibly easily.
He’s similar to his AE version, yes, but he also has the tools of his Marvel 3 version and the safeness of a character who should, typically be a lot more focused on quick hit-and-run damage as opposed to the straight bruisings Ryu can lay on almost the entire cast. He pretty much outclasses everyone.
I mean, eventually people will have him pegged, but there’s a reason he’s on 50% of the teams you see and its not just because he’s familiar. He’s really good in this game, arguably too good.
I disagree. EWGF is the only thing Kazuya has that -shouldn’t ever be touched. EWGF should be what makes him a good character. His problem is he has too many things that make him amazing despite that. His non EWGF damage should be nerfed a little bit but his EWGF damage needs to stay the same – people should be rewarded for playing him at a high level, not relegated to cheesing slaughter fist.
Hugo does need some love, so does Bison. Asuka’s a weird one – Cole/Kuro/PacMan/Megaman/Turo aren’t real characters, and while I’d like to see them played around with for casual fun I don’t want them wasting time while the game needs so many other balance changes. Yoshi and Kuma need help, but none more than Paul who’s only redeeming factor is great CADC’s that you never get to use.
Ken’s only good with a good partner so I’m not sure he really deserves a nerf. Rufus will be fine now, and Raven isn’t that bad – his superiority is well deserved in most cases and we should really give more time for people to figure him out before touching him, I think.
Issue is, a lot of the things you learn to use against him are covered in SFxT – like punishing his hadokens, which you can’t do because he can CADC them at will and can easily use that as bait for people with SSF4 punish habits.
Hadoken bait ~> Trade Shoryuken ~> Super happens a lot.
It’s hard to get in on him with a lot of characters because in his face you have some of the fastest jab/short pressure, over his head you have shoryukens, and at a distance you’re outclassed in projectile versatility.
Agreed on all counts. Ryu is so good that even I picked him up. Easy links, big damage, super safe pressure.
Every character can CADC for free meter. His overhead is easily countered by a good reaction. You can’t just ‘throw out’ random Joudans and hope that they would hit, well not against good players. And to combo off his overhead he would have to be very close to you.
The SRK is an anti air, it always has been. And that trade into super/ultra has been in almost every edition of SF4. Please note, that CADC can be punished if he dashes into you, I implore you to test it in training mode. Ryu has always had an OK walk speed.
Um, no. Marvel 3 Ryu is entirely different, this Ryu doesn’t have instant air crossup Tatsu’s, or the ability to throw multiple fireballs on the screen. Also, that bruising only comes when he has meter, Ryu isn’t going to do Kazuya damage with no bars. (Although you’ve already pointed out how easy it is for him to build meter, supposedly).
He’s still just RYU. If a Ryu player beats you it’s not because he has a crazy divekick into LULZ damage, or teleport gimmicks. He’ll beat you because he out thought and out played you.
I should hope it is. Rufus being -4 after his fastest (lowest?) dive kick would be pretty damn extreme.
I’m not saying he’s a God-tier character, he’s probably around the middle of A tier, but honestly he just flat out outclasses a LARGE number of the cast in ways that make him much harder to deal with than other characters with similar tools. While most characters have several strong suits, Ryu has pretty much all bases covered in a very strong way. He’s manageable, with a bit of time its easy to get a good read on him and start raking things back in, but its hard to deal with him when so many teams that don’t include him are totally outclassed by him as a character – pretty easy to outplay someone with limited options – with so many characters in the game lacking tools for different scenarios, its just weird to me that they gave him everything.
Additionally, CADC’ing Hadoken is a very different monster than CADC’ing say, God Fist or Double Leg Takedown.
You don’t get it.
Every character can CADC for free meter. Only four characters can CADC a fireball. Only two characters including him can CADC a fireball from a sweep - you don’t seem to understand how big this is.
The SRK is an anti air that can trade into Super, but with the game current direction + the fact that 1) His Super is completely non-cinematic, which means instant damage in a game plagued by time overs and 2) Most DPs suck in this game.
He’s not just Ryu, he’s Ryu with pretty much every tool he ever had in every SF game aside from Denjin Hadouken, and not a single one of them is lacking in any way. He has no clear weaknessess and his strenghts show up like a sore thumb. He’s a jack of all trades, master of all.
I actually know the language, see below for some fixes.
So did I just read that they are fixing the diagnol inputs?!!?!
FUCK YES.
Now, you want everyone to get back on the SFxT bandwagon? Give Xbox local online co-op and were back in dat ass.
Is anybody similar to him though? I think Raven is close, maybe Akuma too. As for outclassing people, I’m not too certain about the Tekken cast. But the SF cast matchups, in my opinion is even. (With the exception of Poison, Rolento and Hugo, as I’m not aware of what they can do.) Who do you think that Ryu is clearly better than?
Ah yes * sips hot coffee * such great news first thing in the morning.
Wait… isnt this the exact OPPOSITE of what we want? Diagonal jumps should override vertical jumps! Or is my reading comprehension ass?
Why would they make Rufus’ dive kick so that he can be punished everytime it’s blocked?
The only one who has comparable tools is Poison and he completely outclasses her.
Raven’s CADC is his low hitting strike, Akuma is and always has been a glass cannon.
As far as characters clearly better than him… I’m having a very hard time thinking of any. Raven might have his number in some ways but I don’t know the match up well enough to say. Hugo might, since his clothesline from close range doesn’t care whether or not Ryu lets loose his fireball or cancels it. EWGF Kazuya -might- be an advantageous match up?
Jin probably outclasses Ryu by virtue of being a defensive character with CADC projectiles and a lot of powerful options – he’s basically C.Viper and potentially outmaneuvers a lot of the cast, but even he has his holes. It’s very hard to think of who has an advantage over Ryu… Maybe Dhalsim, as usual?
Issue becomes that Dhalsim’s chief export was teleport punishes and long distance poking. Now Ryu doesn’t have to play mind games him because he can avoid getting caught with his pants down post Hadoken. The mind game is a lot more intense and you have to have good reactions over good intelligence to play that game against Ryu.
Gives the Tekken cast an actual anti-air answer to the SF cast.
I don’t know how I feel about that…
Rufus is going to drop down a tier with that… I don’t think Capcom realizes how bad they made -4… I can command grab that…
I don’t know what they mean by “fastest dive kick”? Do they mean if Rufus does divekick as close to the ground as he can, and the opponent blocks it, it’s -4?
Yes.
Meaning its WORSE at higher altitude and its hard to cross up with… they kind of killed S tier Rufus. He’s not going to be much higher than B+ now.
