That’s how this generation of fighting games works. Better get used to it!
Although, it’s understandable in this case, because this patch addresses severe problems that probably would have been even more destructive if left in.

Yea, but all they did was fix some glitches/infinites and toned down some moves that were too good (Rufus’ Dive Kick), while PS made a balance patch for the entire roster in Soul Calibur V, and that game hadn’t even been out for even 2 months by the time it was released.
It happens sometimes, just have to deal with it.
I was hoping if they were going to change quick combos they were going to *decrease *the priority or even give an option to turn them off completely. This is how they work now: If you have meter and you option select sweep to catch a back dash, you’ll override the quick combo with a chain if they block. If they back dash, the quick combo comes out. Needless to say, you don’t get a sweep. However, against some slow back dashes certain quick combos (like Ryu’s Solar Plexus) will catch the back dash. That mechanic is already one of the dumbest things in fighting games, and the only thing it can do is screw up high level players. From the way they worded it, it appears they’re changing it so you can’t even override during your chain ex) c.lp, c.lp + c.hk. Surely, if they spent five more minutes thinking about how to solve that glitch, they could have come up with a better solution then increasing quick combo priority…
your characters probably suck ass. ken air tatsu is nowhere near raven ridiculous. c’mon now.
as for nerfing it, i’ll accept that if ken gets some very significant buffs in normals and walkspeed department.
Flat up: No. I even have Ken on one of my teams and at times even I feel the thing is overpowered.
Still, if I go up against anyone I know that I just had to FORWARD DASH UNDER IT and catch them when they land.
Capcom JP site posted a very long Q&A this morning:
Looks like more balancing patches are coming… Goodbye jabs and air tatsu dominance? Seems like gems will be adjusted too.
Another thing I got out of this Q & A… is that Japanese players don’t like this game either lol…
Probably the infinite patch. EVO is a test bed for improving hte game — bigger patches will likely come after that.
A lot of the issues with the game are universally bad, doesn’t mean its not well within salvage range. A lot of people who even like the game recognize the glaring issues outside of gems. Glad to hear there will be a lot of fixes.
Hope the edits make the game more logical, one of the biggest problems I have with getting better at it is dealing with some of the weird, wtf stuff that happens.
Can we get the information posted and translated?
Here you go:
tl;dr version:
Q: Please fix jab pressure and air tatsu
A: We’ll continue to balance the game and make it like AE 2012!
Q: Why can’t you make assist gems limited by BP or have a no gems ranked mode?
A: We’ll continue to balance the gems, please give us ideas!
Q: The gems suck, please make them more special.
A: We want to make the gems like a card collection games, but before adding new gems we want to balance the current ones first.
Q: This game’s balance is terrible that I can’t enjoy it.
A: We’ll continue to balance the game. We think it’s very important to have a balanced game.
Q: Move people use meter to tag cancel moves, so Super Arts and Cross Art don’t get much use.
A: We think that tag cancels are interesting, please check the possible comboes!
Q: It’s annoying to get pressured with jabs!
A: We understand. We’ll balance it post 5/19 update.
Q: Please have a no gem mode since most tournaments ban gems.
A: We’re not thinking in terms of adding a no gems mode. We want to balance it so that we can get people who hate gems to enjoy them.
Q: Can we make it so that the round is over when both characters fall and not just one?
A: No.
Q: Please add Chun Li’s up kick.
A: No.
Q: Please fix the timer.
A: It’s under consideration.
Q: The colors suck, they’re too strange. Please have more normal colors
A: We’ll have more colors.
Q: It’s fun to see many different colored opponents
A: Thanks.
Q: We don’t think the current upcoming balance patch fixes any problems. We need full character balances.
A: We understand. We got a lot of “please nerf this” so please give us some of “please don’t nerf this” (lol)
Q: Do we get new costumes/characters/system like SF4 updates?
A: Just balance updates. Vita characters are also coming!
Q: We’re really looking forward to balance changes, but can it really happen?
A: We’ll try our best.
Q: Don’t forget jabs and air tatsu!
A: Understood.
Q: Thanks for fixing Rufus. Please continue to balance this game.
A: Thanks.
Q: Please fix Ryu’s donkey kick and Ken’s air tatsu.
A: We’re looking to balance other moves, please wait for more news.
Q: Looking forward to balances!
A: Please wait for more news.
Q: Please nerf Raven’s crHP -> charge cancel loop
A: We’re looking into air combo adjustments.
Q: No new characters yet? I want them!
A: Please wait.
Q: I want a switch to be able to turn off quick combos.
A: We’re looking for ways to improve this situation.
Q: We want SSF4 for PSP.
A: No.
Q: We want no gem mode. Also we want multiple comments or free entry comments for endless rooms.
A: No (for no gem mode). It’s hard to implement free entry comments for endless lobbies.
Q: We want Karin vs Sakura rival fight for SSF4 AE 2012.
A: Will Karin come to SSF4 AE?
Q: We want Urien and Q!
A: (Some comment about Gill?)
Q: (Skipped - not sure what they’re talking about some Shogi match or something)
Q: We want AE 2012 update for 3DS
A: No.
Q: We want 8 person lobbies (from 6)
A: We’ll look into it.
Q: We want more illustrations!
A: We’ll need to draw more to release more!
Q: Please balance the new characters too
A: Of course.
Q: We want new Vampire series!
A: It was very popular at San Diego Comic Con. I wonder how popular in Japan?
Q: (More whining about assist gems)
A: We’ll balance them.
Q: What were you thinking releasing Replay Analyzer before doing balancing the game? I want to quit fighting games.
A: Sorry, we’ll balance the game.
Q: Given all the criticism you’re still releasing ultimate guard?
A: We’ll balance the gem system.
Q: I don’t want gems! Also please balance the new characters. There are newer fighting games coming out in the summer so you hae to do it now.
A: We understand. We want to be able to survive even after the rush of the new fighting games.
Note - I give up translating at this point as the rest are mostly more whining, asking for Vampire series, etc.
I think it’s pretty cool that Japan and EventHubs are basically the same people.
Anyone know where I can leave comments or questions for the producers? Thanks.
It did sound eerily similar, didn’t it?
I’d like to point out, the AE comment was meant that SF4 evolved into AE. SF4, SSF4, AE, and 2012 are all very different and represent the evolution of the game – they are saying they want to make the game evolve into something people love of cherish.
Secondly, I’d like to point out… Fixing SFxT and making it popular is the best thing to help push DS4 towards happening – people don’t seem to realize it, but SFxTK is an amalgamation of elements from SFA, DS3, and Tekken Tag. Minus the launchers (a Tekken influence), the chain system for SFxTK is almost exactly like the one in Darkstalker except you can cancel chains with EX moves (which you can’t seem to do in DS3, trying it now…). I guess people focus so much on characters that they can’t notice it, but this game borrows a lot of stuff from other Capcom fighters and I feel they are using it as a test bed for ideas as to what will work for reviving others – they already said SFxTK is a stand alone, but just like how Tatsunoko (as we understand it so far) stand alone test bed, this game could easily lead to the return of another series after it has evolved.
I think balance patches, especially with the generally negative outlook people have towards the game, are a good thing. I’d prefer if they’d wait until post EVO, but if it means we get DLC characters and the game becomes better received I’m fine with them coming sooner rather than later. I’d rather get to actually play and practice on a regular basis.
EDIT: SFxTK is too much of a departure from SSF4 to be something Capcom doesn’t reuse, engine wise. I think improving this game is the best thing for the future of Capcom fighters.
Oh please please please tell me the news about the DLC characters coming sooner than planned is real. I need mah Lars
They were asking about something not to nerf, to buff…WALK SPEED
The absolute easiest way to “fix” the gems is to make Auto Block and Auto Tech Throw not useable once you surpass a certain rank. By doing this it will be seen as more of a “teaching” tool rather then a cheap tool. It flashes “hey, you should have blocked that”, flashes again “If it weren’t for the Auto Block you would have just eaten that combo” next flash “You better learn how to block because after C+ or B I’m not gonna block for you anymore”.
Wouldn’t be AS broken also if you have to be holding b/db in order for it to activate. None of this “walk forward like a moron all day, durrr” bullshit.

if they nerf air tatsu, ken better get buffed. that’s all i’m going to say on this subject. but knowing capcom, they’ll just nerf it and leave ken around asuka tier.
…I like this idea because it will make alternate account trolling even more effective.
