I dont think he has an account here and I dont think English is his first language. But please visit his deviant art and show him some love. http://viniciusmt2007.deviantart.com/
Ikeno switched his style a bit for SF4, at first I hated it. But it inspires great work like this to come out.
Not entirely sure how I feel about this… Don’t get me wrong, the work is done really well but there’s some about it I can’t quite put my finger on. His SF4 influences certainly show through though.
Well the pose isnt perfect, looks tipped over. Maybe he needed to darken the outlines. But he is the closest to the SF4 style I’ve seen. There are a couple of deviantart that imitate the style but this was a powerhouse.
It looks like if Rob Liefeld drew Ryu. He would barely even be able to lift his arms if they were that big. Reminds me of the old MMA fighters who were mostly weightlifters and they struggled to get their hands up to defend their face.
Yeah personally I think pretty much all the SF4 art looks like crap. It’s like they didn’t understand the basics of human physique. The proportions are all wrong. But then again all videogames are like that nowadays. If you don’t look like the incredible Hulk then you’re a weakling. Look at Gears of War. Is there any reasons for dudes with GUNS to be that big? Wouldn’t it actually be a pain in the ass trying to aim when your muscles are that bulky? Wouldn’t it provide a bigger target?
hey were all artists here and i think a lot of us said ‘this is good i guess’ to alot of sf4 art work by ikeno (esp the full body portraits.)
but not to detract from the fan artist, he mastered ikeno’s style the same way kandoken did for kinu nishimura.
that said, ikeno did the art for sf3 3rd strike. look at that art, just sick. what he did in sf4 was definitely intentional, but odd. he also did the art for dmc3 and dmc4 i believe which look really realistic in comparison to sf4.
i was thinking about starting a thread just for the famous capcom artists. theres a lo t to learn about their style and what makes it so much different from the american art style and even the other japanese artists, in that competitive industry.
Well invite him to jump over here :), He speaks Portuguese, which I happen to speak as well, so let me know if you need to translate anything to him, or vice versa, heh. Though he seems to speak english, so doesn’t seem to be a problem?
He said ’ yeah maybe I’ll decide to join up on there.’
And yeah its based off the SF2 art. That same art was featured in a slip that came with the SF2 Animated Movie, where you could get your kid’s head super imposed on Ryu’s so that they’d be in the picture. Haha gotta love the 90s. This is probably the best reversion of that picture I’ve seen. Most people I’ve seen do ‘their’ version of this art, dont add anything and try to copy outright the same exact picture. Like tracing almost.
