Bad habits Guile players are guilty of

Thanks dude. Gonna practice the timing for that when I get back home.

Abel is vulnerable low when he’s doing his ultra. I love tagging him with a c.short after the flash. That’s with gief anyways, with Guile, I think you can just do c.short, cr.jab, cr.strong, SB or FK.

Tip: Don’t play according to your opponents’ style; make them play into your game instead.

I have a new one I’m guilty of and it happened to me last night on a match there’s NO WAY I should’ve lost had I not done this : My Guile vs Ryu. He takes the first round, I take the second and I’m crushing him the third. Sure victory right? WRONG! I became an idiot and started trying out new things instead of what was working against this player. Prime example is he had little health left. A Super or Ultra would’ve beaten him in chip, let alone a basic 2-hit combo. So what do I do? Instead of just going after him and hitting that little 2-hit combo (he was whiffing moves left and right) I thought it would be more fun to just chip him to death because I wanted to use my Ultra. Well I whiff the Ultra, I get punished. I STILL didn’t learn. I attempt my Super thinking his health was low enough and he pulls out of range of it, then I get punished. Finally I’M the one in the corner, he Ultras me and wins with chip! The very same thing I was trying to do except he did it out of necessity and I was trying mine out of vanity! Humble lesson learned, if you see the jugular, go straight for it unlike me last night! Don’t get “flashy” (Oh I couldn’t resist) just get the job done. A win doesn’t have to be pretty to be a victory. I learned that hard last night when I could’ve won a tourny and all those points I accumulated were lost to this guy. Kudos to him for getting the job done, I felt like SUCH a dope!

Yeah, you can’t get fancy when you’re trying to win. I had this Vega think he could chip me to death with his Ultra. I had 0 health. literally, you couldn’t see any of the bar. So he does his ultra, (I’m gief by the way), I jump over it and do my ultra. Game over, I win.

Exactly. Rest assured after that match it was all-business from that point. If I lost after that, it’s because I was beaten, not because I tried to look cool winning.

You can play around in casuals. I’ve got a couple of buddies that aren’t quite up to my level of play. Then when I get to goof around and try “new stuff”.

I’ve been guilty of trying to get a “cool” ending. Style over substance, and losing the match.

this… i’ve lost to many matches trying to get a super or ultra finish

also, throwing out an ultra to hit a whiffed dp, only to have them fall right behind it, taking no damage, and setting them up for big damage .

I throw out booms too close sometimes and end up eating ultras :frowning:

Also allowing people to jump in freely :<

ok, a few more bad habbits i do that i thought i would mention, so more people are aware of it just incase they do it too.

i dont always do a cr.mp into a RH. FK. i sometimes do it with a lk or a mk flash kick…

another bad habbit is, when i know i have contact on a jumping rh and i have a charge… i dont always go for the cr. mp into flash kick…

another horrible one is… after a FA level 3 i dont always do an ultra. or a cr. mp into fk… i sometimes air throw… hahaha.

small things, but every last bit of damage i can squeeze out would help.

oh well.

no offense guys but nearly every guile its just sonic boom and c+rh which yeh the topic says but seriously its just becoming worse than the flowchart kens out there…

this is a nice thread, i fail from all of these habits. maybe thats why i have such a damn hard time in g2… the cross ups always get me.

Agreed, I played so many Guiles last night. Everyone one of them was throwing out cr.rh and I was just punishing it yet they kept on doing it. Well, one guy kind of stopped after I hit him. But after a while, he started doing it again. cr.RH is the worst and you should only use it when you KNOW it’s going to hit.

True, most guile I face use this tactic. I’ve change up my style recently. I’ve re-mapped the HK button with MK to change the habit of hitting the HK button, and it works so much better. i can poke a lot of player, and if they block the poke, follow up with a flash kick when they jump in or go into their moves.

I’ve found that the tactic with following up a sonic boom with c. HK or c. MK has pretty much become tell tale. Fought with a few Guile users last night whom utilized this tactic. I pretty much put a stop to it by flash kicking them everytime they stuck their foot out regardless of which kick they used. Plus, the c. MK is slow enough (if blocked) to pull a Flashkick Reversal. The reversal in itself pretty much put a stop and as someone said once before “struck fear” into the opponents. lol.

not using backbreakers is the worst habit a Guile player can have.

I always charge db too late after a jump!

So by the time I jump in with j.hk and then do a cr.mp I don’t get the fk/sb out.

QQ

yeah lots of scrubby flowchart guiles in G2. it’s some kind of cr.rh -> boom -> fk rotation. Nothing else.

I sometimes feel bad when facing a cornered opponent and they fall victim into this playset…

J.HK > c.mp xx Sonic Boom > c.mk…(and for some unforsaken reason, they decide to jump towards me) and hit them with a late Flash kick.

It’s something that I used to do waaaaay back in SFII. I didn’t think people would still fall into this obvious trap. If it’s even called a trap, that is.

I for one sometimes get impatient but soon realised that at G2 -E and above, this can sometimes cost you the match.
