To anyone who wants to purchase from me,
I am posting this to inform you of the current situation with payments being made through Paypal.
As of Friday 6th January 2012 Paypal had applied a limitation to my account for no reason.
Having discussed the limitation with them, they stated that they needed some more details of transactions such as tracking information of shipped goods and further proof of ID etc which I provided instantly.
24hrs later they requested more transaction details aswell as tracking numbers which I again submitted instantly and everything was approved as being above board.
Again, 24hrs later asked for more details. At this point I knew they were upto something.
However, on Wednesday 11th January 2012 Paypal decided to terminate all business relations with me for no reason and retain the funds left in my PayPal account (approximately £1000). Apparently I am high risk so they would prefer not to do business with me even though since having my Paypal account I have never had a single dispute or charge back.
They have given me two options to either refund the money back to the customers or wait 180 days before I can withdraw the money to my bank account incase there are any charge backs.
Check this, after they locked my account (with no option of appeal) I contacted them and spoke to a woman. I am not being sexist but every woman I have spoken to in call centres are the biggest bitches who go out of their way to make life difficult for you and be as unhelpful as possible. Probably a UK thing, just sayin.
I told her I was going to record the conversation and she stated that she doesnt give me permission to do so. How can they record our conversations but they wont let me record?! madness. Anyway I told her I have stopped recording (not, lol) and tried to find out why my account cannot be appealed. All I got was the following response. " I cant disclose that information, its in the user agreement and I dont have to tell you".
After about 10 mins of trying to beat it out of her I was getting more and more pissed at this bitch so told her to tell me which clause in user agreement states this. She didnt know and couldnt tell me and tried to get me to file a complaint because she didn’t know. I don’t want to file a complaint I want to know why Paypal had shut my account down.
I got no where with her so put the phone down and called back straight away and spoke to a guy and he was happy to be recorded and told me everything about my account and why they limited it with no option of appeal.
Here are my findings. Paypal wasn’t happy with my method of taking payments as it goes outside of their user agreement. I normally take a £50 deposit with the remaining balance payable on completion prior to shipping which is perfectly normal (I think).
But as there is possibly a 2 month wait between receiving deposit and completion the buyer cant file a dispute if he/she is not happy.
I didn’t know this and now that I do, I understand why they limited my account but they could have handled it a million times better. They could have told me that before asking me to verify all my details again, send photographic id, tracking info’s, proof of address. What they did by gathering all this information from me is to basically be able to screw me up should anything go wrong. Very dishonest.
Please note! Once they limit your account they have no intention of releasing your account and will do what ever they can to hold onto your money for as long as they can. As they saw all my transactions were legit and orders were shipped and received they basically came up with more information requests and they couldn’t find a flaw in my transactions so shut my account down. They can do this even if they suspect something, its crazy.
So for other Paypal users please be aware of this if you are taking payments in the same way. If you do run your business like this make sure you withdraw all funds to your account frequently leaving as little in your Paypal balance as possible otherwise they will get their hands on it and make their interest on it.
My conclusion is that Paypal are a bunch of liers and scammers and I will never be using their services again and warn others not to leave excessive amounts of money in your Paypal balance and only use it to pay for items, not receive payments. I have recordings of all conversations and may upload them to show everyone how badly they lie to their customers. No wonder they have soo many lawsuits against them.
Since then I have had to refund all deposits made from customers whose custom arcade sticks are pending shipment.
So if you see your deposit being refunded don’t be alarmed as I have requested this as this is the only way to get the funds out of my Paypal balance otherwise I have to wait 6months before I can touch it.
Once you have your money back I will be looking into alternate payment methods such as (Google checkout or similar) for future orders.
Until then all orders will possibly need to be handled by bank transfer and I will deduct from the grand total any charges incurred by the banks. I bank with HSBC which as you know is a major bank and have the international bank number to make everything alot easier.
I cannot begin to express how sorry I am about this situation but it is totally out of my hands at the moment and I am trying my very best to sort this out so I can start shipping the custom sticks out.

Anyway, here is a Frank West stick I built for a customer who was paying in instalments. Over 6 months later and still unpaid. Customer has run into some unforeseen circumstances and cannot afford the stick any more and has given permission for me to sell.

Hey Sam, I had the same situation with Paypal. They withheld my money too but what this really does is prevent you from TRANSFERING the money to your personal bank account. I was still able to use my Paypal debit card associated with my account so I still had instant access to the money. Now, my Paypal account doesn’t look anywhere near what yours looks like in terms of balance and transactions but they still held my account hostage from transfering money to my bank. I guess this is some new procedure. It took almost three months for them to release my account but this freeze has since been lifted. I’d look into getting a Paypal debit card from them just so that it doesn’t slow your business down. Getting other payment option for your business is always good and convenient for your customers but I’d still keep Paypal and just get a business debit card.

Thanks for the input but apparently the Paypal debit card is even more dangerous. Especially as in the latest revisions they have made to their agreement means they can take money from your paypal debit card anytime they feel. No joke. Also, if you have a Paypal debit card your details are more easily shared amongst other organistations etc. I had no idea how dangerous Paypal is and they just dont give a F**K.
With regards to getting limitation removed is a 100% impossibility as they stated that the way I was accepting payments leaves them vulnerable which I can appreciate. Its just their whole method of dealing with it was very very poor. After reading the service/user agreement it was a big smack in the face as to what they can do with your details and money. Hence why I will never use Paypal again. Paypal are the Magic Don Juan of the “banking” game.
I recently heard that missing person was on the phone with them for hours trying to activate his account since he opened up the account in the U.S. and now he’s living in China. Apparently he’s told them that he was moving to China 3 times, and three times they have shut down his account. Sure they are saying that they belief it’s some Chinese hacker but it looks like PayPal want to use any excuse to hold your money hostage.
Damn, that sucks. What sucks even more is that eventually all entities who handle money like banks, paypal, wall street, etc. operate the same way. There is really no where you can go with your money where they wont try to screw you over in one way or another. Everyone has a horror story from every kind of banking institution known to man. That being said, however you decide to handle payments in the future, I am still on board for that compact blank grey case. You do awesome work and I hope you find a suitable solution for your situation.

Paypal is the worst. It might be worth looking into Google Checkout - I’ve heard that it’s better.

- Seimtisu ls-55-01, this is the most sensitive stick I have ever used and its super accurate
- Seimitsu PS-14-KN buttons all round with Toodles KN inserts for the main 6
- Datel/paewang fused with the Toodles widget LED controller board. Had a little go at the J&J style of wiring with some advice from blind aka kuya joe. Very tricky and lots of fun at the same time.

Super sexy! How’s the height clearance on that LS55? Is it as high as the JLF? Will my pinkie and ring finger be smushed together against the case if I were to use that stick on my next custom? I loved the feel and accuracy of the JLW but the shaft was too short.
