We Need a Smash Bros. Melee Thread!

No, that’s the most recent tier list. I can’t think of anything that might have changed it.

What exactly don’t you guys agree with on it…?

Its probably just opinionated reasons. But still everyone prefers something different.

N.Mai: I was dabbling w/ Puff and i have figures some cool stuff. You can hit Puffs Rest after some other hits, not just the drill kicks.

You can do the drill kicks > Pound (F + B ) > then when they boucne towards you do it.

The pound is pretty much the basis to her good combos. The pound make them bounce TOWARDs you. So the combos you can do are limitless. Just use you imagination.

Link…

Okay…

How do you use Link?

Hey everyone, I’m not really new to ssbm, but I’m pretty new to the advanced tactics of the game. I’m mainly an mvc2 player, but I like to chill and play some ssbm whenever I can. Couple of questions:

 1. Anyone have any other links other than the ones already posted? They’ve helped my falco out a great deal.

 2. I’m having trouble doing a small jump. (yea I know, newbish) Anyone have any advice?

 3. Last one, anyone know of any ssbm tourneys in Socal?

Air dodge followed by hookshot makes Link’s recovery own.

-BF-: Too do a small jump lightly press the X or Y button.

Ho0v-man: That is a long faq list, but it is very imfomative. Thnxs. He has so much priority that i never knew. He is in fact top tier.

1)Those are about the only active links for match vids I’ve seen. You can also try the DC hub. http://qwester.supersheep.org/DC.htm which is a great source for tons of SSBM vids, old and new.

2)It depends on the character, some can short hop easier than others (Falco/Link are really easy but people like Fox/Ice Climbers takes a while to get use to). What I do is just quickly tap the corner of the “X” button, that way I short hop no matter which type of character.

3)Most upcoming tournies are posted up at smashboards.com.

dos will agree I have a decent C. Falcon I’ve mastered Run-Grab and learned a few tricks, my next quest is wave dash with C.Falcons f.A in the air…hopefully I’ll get that before Saturday

Learn to SHFFL’ all of Falcon’s aerials. When done properly and chained together in a series, he becomes VERY hard to move in on.

You should also get into the habit of dashdancing. It’s basically just wiggling the stick back and forth so that your character runs in small circle. A good mind games, since they won’t know when you’re going to attack. When you get ready, slam the stick in the direction of your opponent and nail them with a SHFFL’ed knee or go for a grab.

Also, with dashdancing (or foxtrotting to some), it increases your running speed without actually moving anywhere, just back and forth. It confuses people, and it lets you do things a little easier, like dash throwing.

With Falcon, I mainly wave dash his jumping up A or A since there a little easier to cancel than his knee.

TGA presents: 3rd Coast Gaming Invitational - Austin, TX (09/18/04)
Well its that time again, and I hope you are ready . This semesters event should be bigger and better than our previous console events.

The event will be held on the UT campus on the 18th & 19th of September. During these 2 days we will be holding six different tournaments, and this is how it will break down:

 • Saturday (18th): Super Smash Bros. Melee 1v1(Gamecube), Street Fighter: 3rd Strike (PS2), and Marvel vs. Capcom 2(PS2, XBOX).

 • Sunday (19th): Super Smash Bros. Melee 2v2(Gamecube), Soul Calibur 2 (X-Box, PS2), and Virtual Fighter 4: Evolution (PS2).

All Tournaments will be 60-30-10 pot based, with a few other prizes depending on the sponsors we get. So this time you will get your money on the spot and will not have to wait for sponsors to pay up (TXGF) .

Pricing: There will be a $5 entry free, and $10 for any tournament you enter. The $10 will go only towards the pot and nothing else. The $5 would be to cover our expenses (arcade machines, posters, banners, flyers, and all that good stuff).

Registration: Registration for all tournaments will be Invite only until ?? weeks before the event. We will be sending authorization keys to various forums that correspond to the various games (like this one), and will also be giving them out at select locations. I personally think this is a wicked cool idea We will start giving out keys when the event website goes live.

Specific information about this and all other tournaments will be made available around August 1st on our webpage.

If you have any questions/comments please do not hesitate to post them. Oh and post stuff in our forum we need activity

IM going to try to go to this:cool:

Link’s my favorite character and I’ll be the first to say he’s good; but he stands very little chance against most of the top-tier. Fox, Falco, and Sheik rush him down for free.:frowning: He CAN take Marth though.

EDIT:http://smashboards.com/showthread.php?threadid=34838

Damn, still no love for GGXX. I would’ve thought that it’d get some attention before VF4:Evo did (I didn’t even realize there were more than 5 people in the US that played VF  ) since Texas has tons of good GG players, but that shows what I know.

Anyway, I’d enter for SSBM if I could, but I’ll probably be out of town throughout September. Oh well, I guess.

That list you posted was the same one I posted before. You said it was inaccurate. Unless another list is posted on another page somewhere on that same topic I don’t understand why you said the one I posted (the site also got it’s info from SWF’s) was inaccurate.

Ok, one more question, and I know everything I need.

I know what you are supposed to do for L canceling, but could someone make a short video (or find me one) to show me what it looks like for Falco. Also, what does it do? Just stop recovery time?

Today was a blast! The mini-tourney turn out better than I had expected. Only ten people “entered,” but it was all for fun mostly. I’ve seen improvements over the last times I’ve seen everybody play. Here’s the results for our mini-tourney:

1st - Westley (hybrid_stoic)
2nd - Chester (OzShinji)
3rd - Jerry
4th - Devoy (Big D)
5th - Edgar (plaer_dos)

If we have another one, we need more people to join. But this was all for fun, and nothing was really at stake.

-BF-: L-Canceling is used to decrease recovery time for certain moves, mainly aerial down A attacks. The most significant changes are seen with Link and Pikachu, but I believe everyone can use them. I don’t know where to get vids just on L-Canceling, but some match vids use it.

That was a good tourney. but everyone know i should have been in 3Rd:evil: . J/k. But i did get robbed by killing myself so many times in ME and Oz finals match. BIG D!!!

I didn’t notice yours. I was talking about the other tier list that was posted earlier.:stuck_out_tongue: I know, stay calm.

BTW… any bama smashers in here?

Oh, it’s cool. I’m calm, lol. Just wondering if the list was on another page on that link you posted. A read a few pages but it got scrubed by people complaining why Pichu wasn’t top tier and such.
