Scott: Hurray for me! That is great because I was getting used to this set up and it feels technically sound. It seems like this game is built with that set up in mind.
Don’t some of the TE sticks have an alternate layout? I swear that the MVC2 stick had some button layout changes, perhaps this is just on the satellite buttons… Anyway, if all players adopted this set up that would be great. MvC3 really is so different from SF that it makes no sense to set it up like SF or even MVC2 for that matter. Things changed, and setting up controls so they feel more like a game that this game will never be seems counterproductive, especially when the default button mapping is already so conducive to efficient/proper execution of this games’ techniques.
Ultimately though, it is up to the player. What DOES need to happen is the formation of a default custom stick button placement model for both consoles. For example, all custom 360 sticks should have the same physical button mapping of the TE sticks. For the most part, the TE stick is the most widely used stick at tourneys, so that button config should be universal on all custom 360 sticks. This would eliminate most of the silly button config nonsense, all the mappings could be stored in the game and selected, they would always work(no need to check) because everyone technically has the same stick.
Muji: Yeah man phoenix based teams CAN be tough… but there is a bunch of things you can do to prevent it. Honestly just snap the bitch in over and over and its gg… and then theres a couple of good counter picks like dormammu. If your up against dark phoenix team, ONLY Xfactor if it will kill her prior to 5 bar, or else save it for the last char. You will NEED it to survive dark phoenix xfactor chip out… honestly just some smart play will get you past phoenix teams and a good snap in.
Rick: Yeah I am sort of in the same boat but I grew up playing marvel vs series… ive played all of them just at a very basic level. My 200+ hours in MvC1/2 training room when I was 10-14yrs old help me a little bit but not really that much… honestly my TvC experience helped me alot more. I just wanna play you so I can see you do lp lp mp hadouken as a punish in MvC3 just like you do lp lp mp hadouken in SF4! gotta really punish in this game…
hammerfrenzy: your layout is what most people are playing at in AZ and in the MVC3 button mapping discussion thread.
tyler: yeah I ordered my game from the capcom store… got delayed and now its in indiana like the rest of us… pathetic
I can’t play this game online keep using the burned copy for training mode…
@ Muji and Hammer - Jon, not all TEs are button mapped the same, Hammer, you were right. The MvC sticks that came out have a button mapping that coincides with MvC2s default button mapping. Top row goes x y lb lt bottom is a b rb rt. I actually rewired my MvC stick to have SF4s default setting so now I have to switch to button style B on MvC3.
Edit: actually saying I’m using B isn’t 100% accurate. I’m using B as the base but I’ve also mapped assist 1 to LB and assist 2 to LT so that I can use my pinky for calling out assists.
aww yeah thanks rick…doom still feels funny to me…but…after reading that comment i’ve been spending time learning the doom loops instead of sleeping for work tonight…
medium punch-dive kick launch shit is too good and fun…
yeah im still in the lab with this combo. sometimes i will do the air M to dive kick to air M then land and do is launcher hard kick, back in to 2 air M then super
side note: im going to be picking up a ASUS evo monitor online today. so we will have another set up for east side once it comes in the mail
I’m doing ok… been tired as hell lately because I go home after work, practice, then go to sleep then go to work… all I do is play marvel lately…
Wesker is really really strong… good mixups and nobody can prevent him from getting in… really hard. Solid combos, but his specials are lacking which is good because otherwise hed be op.
I think the biggest flaw is the lack of seth… he would fit in perfectly. Imagine tanden engine being a huge tornado that fills 1/3 of the screen and deals retarded chip… !!!
Brain: I’m in the same boat as you; the game looks tempting as hell, and I enjoyed playing MvC2 when it first came out (and then I played my first match against a Sentinel trap…) but I am just discouraged at having to learn a brand new game, even if it’s not really BRAND new (air combos into hyper combo? Ok I can do that). I think my worst habit with Marvel is not knowing when to use assists/using them carelessly and execution in long ass combos.
@ Armando:
The difficulty in preventing him from getting in is the whole reason I want to play him. After sticking with Dudley’s rushdown that anyone can keep out, I want to play someone that can just get in whenever he wants. I also still want to try out morrigan, but her assists don’t seem as useful as Tron bonne’s flame thrower assist. Also, considering the damage output that everyone has in this game, I want all my characters to have above average health.
Also, it sounds like Seth is in actually in this game, but for some reason his name is Dante.
@ Punker:
Yeah man, I just don’t enjoy playing at a lower skill level in any game, and I am a slow learner. So I always need to devote tons of time in learning the mechanics. Sometimes that just feels too daunting to start up that much training.
Actually, his name is phoenix in this game. Morrigan is actually pretty good in this game, and her uppercut assist and her meter assists are really better than most people expected, really legit. Her combos are good and she can now fly too. Really all around solid, I played her for the first 3 days until I got into training room. Haha wesker is soooo gay… gotta be on guard at full screen.
CAPCOM STORE BULLSHT
So is there any idea when our games are coming? Anybody here received theirs yet? Seriously, I want my fcking money back so I can just go buy the fcking game already. Capcom needs to sever ties with these dckheads at Digital River.
Dude, I just called these a$$holes like 10 minutes ago. The are by far the most incompetent pieces of sh!t I have ever had to deal with. They have absolutely no idea where my game is or when it will arrive. They told me it would be here today, and to “be patient”, FCK YOU. All I want to hear from you is a date when the package will arrive and a FCKING APOLOGY. Somehow, I am the one being unreasonable… Seriously, Capcom needs to get as far away from these freaking nincompoops as possible. Apparently I have to wait 10 to 14 days now. Really? I am completely amazed at how freaking silly this is… This is what I get for wanting to support Capcom directly rather than Walmart/Target/Bestbuy/Gamestop…
