I was reserving judgment until the videos were out, and now that they are it is very clear that this should have been a round loss for Sean resulting in a victory to dan.
The main reason stems from the fact that sean had to manually move the cursor to the assist he picked. If he just press A then A again in rapid succession and got the wrong one, understandable. But the one he wanted WAS A then A, but he still manually scrolled up to choose the other one. That says something right there that should of indicated that there was no reason for this match to be restarted.
It wasn’t dan’s fault he chose the wrong assist. It wasn’t the tournaments fault either, it was Seans. At that point you just keep playing and beat yourself up about it later. While I will probably say that I am sure sean did not mean to pause it because his two characters were getting raped, that was just an unfortunate circumstance for dan. Regardless it shouldn’t have mattered because it was definitely victory to dan.
The downside of this is the fact that mentality plays a huge role in this. When your winning, your confident in your moves and combos and the world is your oyster. When you lost, you realize your flawed and proceed with caution and a lot more defensive measures. I wouldn’t call it farfetch to have seen the outcome of this tournament switch if the winner of this match was called properly, but that’s not saying sean wouldn’t of came back.
Personally, I would put my money on Sean winning a FT10 against dan, but I know dan is a huge momentum player and it’s not fair to say he got blown up afterwards because some players can really break down after they miss something or some bs happens, especially outside of their control. I know I do.
With that said, I hope dan and the west side team make it out this saturday for revenge!

I don’t think you can discuss the selection of the assist. You don’t know what was going on at the time. Someone could’ve been talking to Sean, or he might have been distracted in some other way. Often times people are on auto-pilot during character select so you’re not really paying attention.
I really wish this would just die though. It’s not that big of a deal to still be discussing it. Whoever’s mistake it was, Sean still won the tournament. Had Sean been given a DQ for that match, Dan still would’ve been mentally shaken and Sean most likely would have come out with the tournament win anyway.
No money exchanged hands and Dan has plenty of time to come back and win the ranbats to take home the money. It’s ridiculous how some of you make a big deal out of everything. And you wonder why new people are turned away from the scene…

I know if I was in Dan’s shoes in that situation, I might not have liked it, but I would not like to take a win over a technicality. I want my win to be legit. not saying Dan has to, but even if Sean kept playing, I would have stopped it so he could get the right assist, because I’m not playing someone at their best.
It’s all about having a mutual respect for the player.
I think the subject is done. Sean messed up, he admitted it. And he got his replay. Dan didn’t like It and he got his entire set replayed. Either way, they are even now.
Moving forward
I played 2 matches of mk9 online last night. and both were definitely laggy as fuck. I’ll reserve final judgement once I play people from socal that I play just fine on ssf4/mvc3. But right now, not looking good. OTOH, the online modes are pretty badass. Too bad it will goto waste if the online is as bad as I experienced, on a consistent basis. =(
Scott: were you playing KOTH or just 1v1? Of the people who say they can get tolerable online games, they say you have to play 1v1.
Oh well, maybe ill wait til after the GoW3 beta and see if they make any announcements on patches or anything.
