I think KoF13 is fun, and I also think UMvC3 is fun. That justifies me playing both of the games, but why I think they’re fun are for completely different reasons.

I know everyone has doubts about KoF13 and certain other games (Skull Girlz, etc), and I don’t like it when people want to shove a game down my throat… it turns me away from it too… But I’ll try anything a few times and decide if I want to play it seriously.

And besides, we all agree that Blazblue is awesome, Guilty Gear is awesomer, and Street Hoop is the awesomest.

Anyone for some UMvC3 on Xbox LIVE?

Woot! Today was fun, I lost horribly but I got awesome experience! How many of you guys were at samurai today? I was the dude with the crappy Dante/X-23/Vergil team!

Tag2 puts all your motherfucking games in the shit hole! all that damage, execution, poking, footsies OMFG is on another level.

results?

._. I don’t know, all I know is who got 3rd place. Probably some pro people got first and second.

D: Rigo sir. Not Riga.

So I think I may have just found something that might be a bug or a nerf that I didn’t ever hear about. Anyways, here is the situation and the ending result:

Team: Wolverine/Nova/Spencer

Wolverine (on-point) - Start with Air Throw > df.M + Spencer Angled Claw Grapple assist > Wolverine re-launch BNB combo ending in Fatal Claw.

Normally this combo will do ~700k damage, but in this situation (after the Air Throw) it does just over 400k. Is there some kind of huge damage scaling after Air Throws or is this some kind of nerf I haven’t heard about?

I would imagine it’s from all the hits caused by the air throw if you mashed it, but I don’t know.

Quick update.

This also applies to Ground Throws. The damage scaling is really massive and I’m beginning to think that it was intentionally designed that way. The only thing is that I don’t recall them ever saying anything about that, do any of you?

I thought so too, but Nova’s Air and Ground Throw don’t start the combo gauge at all (as opposed to Wolverine’s 5-Hit throw) and it still causes a massive reduction in damage.

I just did another test with the same situation as my OP except I added Lv.1 X-Factor after the df.M + Spencer assist and didn’t even get 800k damage…

That is seriously weak sauce :frowning:

Well…I guess as a heads up to everyone, don’t end your combos that start with an Throw in a Hyper unless you are sure that they are going to kill or they are going to provide a good mix-up. The massive damage scaling makes it a complete waste of meter (unless it is a Lv.3 Hyper).

[S]Are these all Wolverines grabs or for every character, because I’m sure Wolverine’s grabs each allow for mashing.[/S]

Just saw what you said. I always thought they did start the combo gauge. Weird.

Combos after throws are subject to massive damage scaling. This has always been the case. People circumvented it somewhat in vanilla with the DHC glitch though.

I believe the exact reduction is 30%. if you start a combo with a THROW of ANY type, ground, air, command. combos started off throws are great for using for resets, to try for a full scaling combo.

Aw! For some reason I thought Hozanto went through fireballs and was safe. I must be thinking of Yun, haha.

This is very true, but when you find a way to X-Factor after your throw combo it will reset the damage scaling (but not the hitstun scaling). The most popular example of this is Wolverine: Throw, c.M XFC into normal BnB. Still a one hit kill combo, but if he used Akuma assist to pick up instead of X-Factor it would not kill. At least that’s how it worked in Vanilla. I know that they changed X-Factor damage scaling in Ultimate but I wasn’t sure if that meant it scales faster after the X-Factor or after the beginning of the combo. But I’m fairly certain that X-Factoring after a throw leads to substantial damage and will often kill. Other characters like Doom and Wesker will often have enough meter to go right into level 3 after a throw which, like you pointed out, leads to unscaled flat damage.

I remember you played Zero. If you’re looking to kill off of a throw (only air throws), do a Sentsuizan (dive kick) OTG X-Factor into a ground series into whatever you want, but you’ll probably still need assists to kill because you’re Zero.

[S]I don’t think this is true anymore, Muji. I did test this and the combo barely does over ~800k damage with X-Factor up (as mentioned in one of my posts above).[/S]

nvm, I see what you are saying now. I’ll have to give that some testing.

@Makaveli - Thanks for clearing that up, I didn’t know if it was a bug or if it was intended.

I did, but I have a new team that I have been working on and one that I really enjoy playing. Hopefully I’ll get a chance to get it into action in the near future

Yeah, if you start a combo from a throw, the next hit starts at 70% damage and goes down from there, instead of accruing the normal damage scaling.

And Haz’s was crazy fun tonight. Got wrecked by Juice in KoF all night and enjoyed every match.

Happy New Year fuckers.
