I really thought Amon was gonna take Korra powers I was like oh shit here we go she gotta start from jump street again. His fear tactics are some of the best, mentally he broke Korra.
Didn’t come right at midnight caught her nappin at like 4am lol.
And the sport they play reminds me of FFX Blitzball shit is so dope.
I don’t see the similarities in this and Blitzball at all. Has anyone gotten the complete rules of the sport yet? I didn’t think a fight could be won in one round, but I was guessing it could if all three opponents were knocked out the ring before the clock stopped.
Episode was good despite me not lacking romance-type stuff.
Bolin’s a punk. Cryin and running off like a girl instead of beating his brother’s ass.
Completely serious non trolly discussion, does anyone think pro bending is a total waste of time? They are just throwing rocks and balls of fire and water at each other.
It’s not even like each team has their own style. Korra going for the hat trick is the first time we’ve seen someone doing something semi unique. Why don’t they make shields or something out of the rocks/water/fire, just something different then the repetitive kicks and punches. Remember how the earth bending wrestling was? There were more characters in that 20 minute episode then in the 3 or so we’ve had so far on pro bending.
The animation isn’t bad by any means, and there are plenty of lol moments (Bolin running away, Bolin getting his mack on, basically Bolin this episode) but it just feels like they are rushing through it. Going through the motions so to speak.
I was hoping Korra wouldn’t be a swooning little girl for the first main character fire bender she met, because we’ve been there and done that.
I want to be like “I LOVE THIS SHOW!” so bad, but am I the only one noticing this stuff? It is not a bad show, but if it’s only just one season and it’s just the same themes in the 1920’s, I’ve already watched a more interesting version of that that was 3 seasons long and was something new and original.
I’m also disappointed we’ve really haven’t had a really in depth episode on learning Air bending (it was basically, hey, air bending is all about circles, do circles through this obstacle! with some “This is the most spiritual style” thrown in for good measure) , of all things that had to cut it short was the lame ass pro bending. Air bending is my favorite element so thats made me sad so far.
I’m not a fan of the pro bending thing either. All they really do is throw linear attacks at eachother. The teams could be composed of 3 benders of the same element since they’re not allowed to do anything unique.
Good stuff. I would prefer they had an actual no holds barred kumite type thing instead of this blitzball to bring out the full potential of each bending, strengths/weaknesses displayed, kickass moves being done with style.
Also fuck this announcer guy, go back to calling baseball games. I miss Mako!
It looks like this pro bending stuff will end soon since they are in this tourney. After that I believe it will move on to another phase. That being said, this has been an excellent start to the series before the serious stuff gets brought in.
This is just my opinion, but from these few episodes, it to me seems like bending itself looks almost like a “lost art” if you will. Because during Aang’s time people really used it for war-time sakes and thus their would’ve been more effective and creative ways to using the bending arts. Where as during the era of Korra, the lack of war may have also reduced the quality of benders and bending all together.
You add the fact that they are having a revolt against benders themselves would in my mind only dwindle the quality of bending. Again, at this point, this is just my assumption, and thus my viewpoint on why bending in itself is not as creative as what we saw during the time of Aang. Once more, we are only witnessing this within Republic City, and we have no clue how the outside world beyond it looks like or how bending is used as such.
We’ll just have to wait.
On a side note, I enjoyed this episode, yeah it was about love, but sometimes to me its refreshing for them to take it down this road every once in a while. Although in here they jumped into it pretty quickly. Korra is hot as a female, but in my opinion Asami wins the vote, she’s down right gorgeous + she’s elegant at the same time…you kidding me? That’s my ultimate kryptonite whenever I meet a female like that irl. I mean, in the original Avatar series, the female that was most attractive imo was Azula, loved her looks (I felt she was the most beautiful of the females) although she had some serious emotional problems I think had she of overcome them, she had serious potential.
I don’t know, to me, I’m enjoying this series, and although I don’t think it’s as creative as the original Avatar up to this point, I’ll give it some more time. It’s hard to follow up after Aang and co, and to me, Mako makes this very interesting, he’s like in some ways an alternate ver. of Zuko but w/o the effed up side face. My only complaint is that whenever it’s on during Saturday, I’m at a BOM (board of meetings) and so I miss the episodes every single time, which really irritates me, and thus I have to watch a crappy version of it online.
For those still confused on the rule’s of pro bending it looks like if all 3 members get completely knocked off in any round their team loses. But in the event that at least one member from each team stays on the platform until the end of the round, the team that has pushed the opposing team the furtherest back wins the round and then in the next round all players start on the stage again. This goes on for 3 rounds, even if the first two rounds were won by the same team. That way the losing team can still manage a win if they knock all the players off in the last round.
This episode seems to be getting some hate but I really liked this episode. I’ll admit it wasn’t the strongest episode so far but it was still pretty entertaining. I gotta say im really enjoying korra, even more then aang.
we’re only 5 episodes in…we have time man. Also I like the probending subplot. it’s nice to see bending used for a competitive sport now as opposed to used mainly to battle.
I really dig this show. And I love blitzba… I mean pro-bending. It’s cool. The team Korra was talking shit to probably did some sick shit to waste that other team so fast. Pro-bending is the shit.
I assume they don’t do any extravagant shit because that would be holding and Korra got a penalty for that (and she got a yellow card for unsportsmanlike conduct).
This has been THE INVINCIBLE SWORDSMAN saying:
I’m also glad they got some of the love triange stuff out of the way… for now.
Bolin running like a bitch and the failed MMA tackle he did in sudden death portion of one of the matches were the highlights of the episode.
Since there was no next episode preview, I am guessing we are in the portion where the show takes a break. I hate it when shows only show half a dozen episodes and then take breaks.
Bleh, I wish. Everything is exactly the way it was before that episode started, there’s still copious amounts of sexual tension going on between the main three. They spent the entire god damn episode on romance and proceeded to resolve absolutely nothing. Didn’t even end up with a “bros before hoes” pact.
Great episode. Despite the seeming consesus here, a lot happened.
The reason Korra won the match was because of her air-bending training. I know this happened before, but not nearly to this degree. Single-handedly winning a semi-finals match is a big deal. If you noticed her movements, she was being the leaf.
A new adversary has been introduced. Who knows what his stance and connections are outside of the game.
The new plot elements introduced between the triangle could become very important. This issue will likely resurface again (hence the lack of resolution), possibly resulting in either the brothers becoming enemies or Korra training them in new martial arts to strengthen the team dynamic. Also, Asami’s father is Hiroshi, who could easily become a significant enemy if his daughter comes crying to him with a broken heart.
Aang’s series had far worse filler, so I don’t understand all the bitching. Not every episode can be (or even should be), crucial story development with intense action.
I’m curious what happened to the Kiyoshi warriors. I wouldn’t be surprised if they’re still around, or if Suki is still alive. I love Suki.
I also want to find out Ty Lee’s connection with Amon’s warriors. Chi blocking and pressure points. Interesting stuff!
