The Long Version

Arcade UFO is proud to announce a collaboration event with Fantastic Arcade, the newest event brought to you by Alamo Drafthouse and The Highball. Fantastic Arcade will run in tandem with Fantastic Fest, the largest genre film festival in the United States.

Arcade UFO will be presenting 4 days of game tournaments from Sep 23-Sep 26th, with Sunday, Sep. 26th featuring a 16-man Single Elimination SSF4 showcase tournament in the spirit of Godsgarden.

12 Players will be selected via satellite tournaments as follows:

3 Players - Austin (to be held at Arcade UFO)
3 Players - Houston (to be held at Monster’s Arcade)
3 Players - Dallas (to be determined)
3 Players - San Antonio (determined via the next Ranbat on Sat, Sep 11th)

The final 4 players will be determined via a single-elimination last chance qualifier at The Highball on September 26th, making a 16-man bracket. Full details via the Fantastic Arcade site can be found below. Arcade UFO’s home page will be updated shortly!

WOW! Im there!
No KOF13?
Oh well. are the qualifiers double elimination ? or single elimination like the one at the highball??

Something I am also curious about.

Question Ryan… since we are making our Ranbats a qualifier, is it ok that it will be still be $10 to enter, best 2/3 games and double elimination? Since that’s totally different from the last minute qualifiers and the finals.

Are the players locked to whatever city their reside or are they able to go to the various qualifiers?

To add on to Winchester’s post, if you are not from the cities listed above can we still try out? Gonna try to convince my homie Luiz to go qualify.

Regarding city qualifiers–these are not locked, anyone from any city can try out. So it would be OK for a Houston (or Harlingen) player to qualify in San Antonio, etcetera.

It’s OK for the format of the qualifiers to be different; UFO’s will probably also be 2/3 double elimination. This will be left up to the individual TOs. The main reasons for single elimination for Finals are:

  • Exciting matches for spectators who may not know as much about fighting games
  • Time constraints of the festival . . . we have to be DONE before 7:30PM!

Our qualifier info will be up Monday after Blood Bath and Beyond.

So if you lose @ your town qualifier you can join in @ the convention and try to get top 4 there correct?

Are all the tournaments free and you just have to pay the badge or is it individual price?

No entry fees required for competitions. Show up early for pre-lim rounds. Finals held at 6 pm daily. - From the first post

So yeah, just get the day badge for Saturday, I think it’s 10 bucks, 20 if you want access to the panels and stuff. If you qualify, it’s free the next day for the finals.

Cross posting in the Austin thread to make sure this’s read,

For Dallas’ spots, it’s cool if we just have a tournament run at Campbell’s place at some point? If so I’ll talk to some people then post details about when it will happen here and in the DFW thread.

I contend that the venue is unfair to Dallas players because all of the top Dallas players are degenerate alcoholics and will be wasted before the tourney starts.

The Absolute Battle crew will handle Dallas quals…

Dallas Qualifier Tournament @ House of Goons - Sept 17th (Friday)
The qualifier tournament will be run by myself and Waco John (nmbr1krush).

We will give you the results the following day.

In the event of one of the top 3 from the city not being able to go will the 4th or 5th person be able to go instead?
