Posting because I am in Austin and I play Guilty Gear and I also have an SRK account that I don’t use much.
Arguments about Ky are stupid. Whether or not you think his pokes or fireballs or whatever are good, you still need to find a way to beat them.
On the bright side, the abundance of decent/good Ky players at E’s has helped me rethink and revise my offense with HOS. Lots of new baits and tricks and pressure things in the works. Too much experimenting to do, can’t wait for the console version and training mode ;(
I’m kinda excited about how the Slash scene is developing in Austin, yeah there are tons of random scrubs but there are enough people who could get pretty decent or even really good to keep the scene improving.
What I’m worried about is that a lot of people seem to have stopped experimenting with things and are just sticking to whatever strats and stuff they figured out in the first week =/ Adjusting combos and spamming new moves isn’t enough experimentation, people! I’ll be the first to admit that doing Jackhound or Chipp’s D teleport or whatever is fun and all but people need to buckle down and think out how they’re playing matchups more. I’m getting a lot of relatively free wins just because I’ve thought through how to beat one or two setups/strings/moves they use and that’s been enough because lots of people haven’t been changing their setups/strings/moves in response. I’m not even that good, guys.
Console version should definitely help. Can’t wait to see how the scene evolves and I would hate to see it stagnate so early.
Things that I think need to happen:
-MORE CHARACTERS. It’s all well and dandy that I am feeling more and more comfortable fighting Ky and Axl but there’s like 20 more characters to play. When the console version hits I really hope some people discover that Ky/Axl/Chipp is cool and all but they really like playing I-No or Millia or whoever, and then actually get good with said characters.
-MORE EXPERIMENTATION. Something that is racking up wins right now might not work out too well even by next week. Fact is, if people don’t start thinking through some stuff soon, in another week or two I could probably steamroll over most people at E’s without thinking, and that’s including several people on this board. And it will have nothing to do with skill or mindgames or anything, just me having spent the time to think out how to beat the stuff that was done on like day 1 that is STILL being done with little growth. I’m already having to think less and less about how to beat people and I more or less just run through flowcharts to deal with most of you, to be honest. All of my thinking happens outside of the game now, MAKE ME THINK WHILE I PLAY.
-it’d be nice if people understood that while Slash is a fighting game and 3S is a fighting game, you cannot play the two without any adaptation to one or the other and expect to win. Nor should people expect the two games to be so similar. If you don’t like how something in Slash works because it’s not how it works in 3S, play 3S instead, and vice versa. One really telling thing is that a lot of 3S players are getting airthrown all over the place by dedicated GG players, not even off setups or anything. I’m a jerk and I just try to airthrow all the time, but that doesn’t mean I should succeed. Slash is not 3S and requires thinking about the aspects that aren’t in 3S. Teching, bursting, everybody having airthrows, FD/IB, etc. etc. Y’all could be so good if you took the time to learn.

Vote on if you want slash or reload at evo. Looks like srk staff is already leaning towards reload.
Why would they lean towards reload? Personally I wouldn’t like to go to Evo to play #R. Pretty much everyone already quit #R now that Slash is out.

Actually I guess we figured poon would try to contact you if he actually had time for games? Who knows. It is a mystery.
Are there any arcades in Austin that have Guilty Gear machines? I usually go to Dave & Busters or Main Event, but they don’t have much in the way of fighting games at those places.
