Ok…I AM doing this! I am offended at people thinking this cannot be done. I will be making it a big tournament for toronto instead of a major I like that idea. Think LBT2 for this tournament. They did not attend tournies beforehand and still did a great job, they also didn’t even play for that matter. I have been to some tfns casuals and I actually play, not that it immediately makes me worthy but it’s to show i at least know a little more than lbt hosts. I will be asking dice or whoever is the primary host of tfns tournies many questions on friday night. I WILL NOT BOOK A DATE UNTIL NEXT WEEK SO PLEASE ANSWER THE LAST QUESTION OF POST.
Now this really is indeed important, lcd OR CRT is a problem. Why must it be one or the other? If I just read that someone is helping with EIGHT tvs, does it hurt to have more with crts? I just need someone to clarify this a bit for me and I’ll consider.
Why can’t people bring fucking set-ups? As lame as brawl is, the community insured set-ups so you guys can to.
This mtl huge tourney is a threat. You guys would not consider having two big tournies in one month? Would it help at the end of jan so that way you have a week break between mtl major and this one?
why wouldn’t you just host it at tfns, it’s probably way cheaper to “rent” out the venue than the banquet hall, and more people know about it already. You can run the whole show just use whats already there :s
Because you need to keep input delay consistent. This is why tourneys are usually single console, single tv type. Most tournaments go as far as to ensure even the brand/model of the monitors are the same.
LCD’s will always have more input delay than CRT, but it is workable if at least every single monitor has the same amount of input delay.
Well you fucked up royalty at York by not booking the room so excuse people that are betting on you fucking up again somehow
the community is so custom of paying the 10$ venue fee and getting set up provided. People are not going to risk bringing there nice expensive LCD monitors on getting damage its just not worth it.
thanks danny for fucking spreading that misinterpretation. There is no club to “book” that room and as I said a thousand fucking times we played in those exact rooms for TWO FUCKING YEARS AND UNFORTUNATELY THAT HAPPENED. Now for the last time I apologize to everyone, I just had good intentions of having a tourney with no venue fee and having fun.
Now updates for the banquet hall. Ther will definitely be a bar with alcohol and a giant projector. The reason why I didn’t really want to host at tfns is because you guys are there all the time, why bother doing one there again? I just want to give you guys an awesome tournament . I’m actually starting to give in to you people and just abandon the idea. It’s good i didn’t book because I wanted to see your opinions and reactions. So far it seem you guys really don’t want this to happen. Keep posting but I am at tfns 100% this friday so I want to talk to as many people about this at the couch area. I’m serious, we need to talk on this and then I’ll completely understand and just give up. I am just trying to give you guys soimething I know I can deliver.
EDIT: I forgot to give you guys the name and location. It is called Sala Caboto and it is on 40 playfair ave two blocks before dufferin and lawrence. The place ALSO has free parking I would also like to tell you all that I know this place inside and out. I have worked there for so long AND they are giving it to me for whatever time I ask. I am thinking 12-12. Please continue to give input I’ll do some more research.
If you’re trying to play mister “I’m so sorry I am for ever in debt to your community” then I wouldn’t be giving that kind of attitude to one of this community’s most chillin’ and well respected players.
To me it seems like you’re more concerned about fixing the negative rep you gained from the other fuck up you had than actually running the tourney itself. I’m not trying to be a dick or anything, and I’m not even trying to say you aren’t sincere but it seems like your priorities are a little messed up. Make sure you absolutely know what you’re doing first (ie what equipment we need, whether the location is even ideal for the GTA, ideal date etc) and whether your efforts are even going to be worth your time before you even finalize anything.
Run this tournament because you want to; not because you feel like you need to. People would have forgotten your name/face and even if they didn’t people probably wouldn’t give a shit about what happened before anyways. Shit happens dude. Personally I had no clue who you were even though I read the thread a few months back (I actually felt pretty bad about what happened, putting myself in your shoes that is).
Again, I’m not trying to stir shit up or anything, just want to make sure you absolutely no what you’re doing. Otherwise good luck, and I hope to be able to attend in January.
Danny is a friend of mine from before man, please relax. I wanted to flip out but I understand how that seems. Thing is we spoke and I understand where he is coming from but man, as a friend, I didn’t find that nice therefore my post. Once again, I spoke to him I know you can’t know that we have history.
And please, I’m not in this to clear my rep. Like it is a factor but it is defnitnely least on my priority. I talked to my boss expecting like $1000-$2000 rental fee for everything but got a good deal and found such a great opportunity to share this. I was thinking doing this for brawl community but I don’t have passion for that game anymore. It will still be present but as in lbt’s priorty was brawl mine will be the other way, simple as that.
I simply like hosting and I like knowing that there’s gotta be some people out there to do this, to host. I guess this scene is fine so it is probably my ignorance and that’s fair. But I just remember the last scene i was in we barely had tournaments because we did not have many hosts at all.
Well then best of luck to you. Personally I think a bar would be sick and 10$ entry fee is standard, so run that. Teams would be wicked, but it might run more smooth if it’s just singles. Maybe there could be some kind of exhibition, but a full fledged teams tourney wouldn’t go over so well I’d think.
If you really want to be a director, you have to learn to not take everything personally. Create a good venue, give good incentives for people to come, and they will arrive. I don’t see how you’re taking the comments of 1-2 people as “you guys don’t want this to happen”. Our community seems harsh, but we give respect to people who makes things happen. If you want to be one of those people, actions speak louder than words. Use your own judgement, and plan accordingly. In the end, you stand to lose much more than us. Suggesting TFNS is a way of covering YOUR ass. If you feel like you can provide a change of pace and a different venue, go ahead and do it.
Just remember to keep in mind the three most important things:
We agree - oversaturation of Majors is a threat to the East Coast Canadian scene in general. Too many events will saturate the hype. As such Montreal focuses on getting together about 4 events a year (seasonal) and we try to coordinate with Ontario’s directors to space it out for things like the T series, and so on. It’s mutually beneficial for everyone, and keeps hype at peak levels.
To make it clear, January is going to be Nemesis II, just as it was last year. In the interest of maximizing the number of players at the event, which sounds like you’re aiming for a major, I think it would be wise to discuss a more convenient date for our scenes.
Yes you are right, I completely agree…I wouldn’tw ant to affect either tournament so I’ll see if I can get a later date but at my workplace they offered jan because it is dead season. If I can get this for feb would that be fine for everyone? Or is that still presenting fatigue for tournament play?
yo its not a big deal if u have your tourney in the same month as Montreal the people that are going to MTL tourney from GTA in the first place will all most liky come to this one too… I cant say for MTL the other way around coming to this one… so what does it matter? the hype will still be there no matter what attendants will not make any difference at all.
I suggest you ask DesiCanadian to close this thread. Talk to said community leaders Dice01/Crankypunk/Gxstacy, Bison/Neorussel/Myself in private and collectively pick a date. Decide together how to get equipment as well as how to promote the event. I’m sure none of the above mentioned parties will have any issue helping out/making things happen with you. In the end we all have to work together.
As for this thread, it’s just acting as a huge troll bait tacked to your back. People already have a chip on their shoulders due to your last event. It’s better to sort things out with the people who can do somethign first before making an official post. After that if people want to troll, they can say whatever they want, but it won’t matter since you have all your ducks in a row.
But on a serious note TFNS is already in the works for a major towards the end of the year so it be best to talk to those who are involved. I dont see why you cant use TFNS as a means to hold the tourney we invested time and money for it to be that, a place to hold tournaments. But yea it all depends to on the games you want to run, if your looking to get sponsors and streams etc etc.
As for equipment, I know the smash bros scene everyone brings there set ups but on the real, SF is a totally different scene and its usually expected that whoever runs the tournament has the set ups to begin with. But anyways best of luck with that dude its never easy running tourneys.
I back buddah on this one. There is 0% chance that MTL shows up for this no matter when the date is. MTL only goes to Ontario for T tournaments or for something really big like ESC
