Asura's Wrath: Japanese God of War

Well I liked the demo. I like the game.

lol @ hating on QTE cutscenes when the MM/Super Mario/[insert random side scroller boss] were just as “through the motions” as a boss thats a mixture of QTE and button presses.

Which is why I said rent/borrow

^Yeah I know. I just wonder if Capcom could have played this different (chepaer) from the get go. This game also makes me think of Vanquish but ya know minus the bad ass normal gameplay.

I’m tired of QTE’s because they are half gameplay half watching. I’d rather play it my way with the game’s normal mechanics or just watch it. Like my favorite parts of Bayonetta were everything but the QTEs. With the examples you stated you have to learn those ‘motions’. You don’t hop into any of the boss fights with the pattern already ready to go. Not to mention and especially with Megaman you can mix things up a bit.

I will give CyberConnect2 props though for clever use of the two Analog sticks. It’s nice to see them get used in QTEs.

Well in defense of Asura’s Wrath, Bayonetta’s QTE cutscenes werent nearly as epic. Any game that has a weak QTE system ends up being a chore because you rather WATCH the cutscene than to get your body ready for another button press, so I can understand that, only Asura’s Wrath actually sucked you into it.

Look I hate DBZ, but this game and its drama is very compelling.

I mean, I’m not trying to sit through a Metal Gear Solid 4-esque 45 minutes cutscene long enough to literally eat some takeout. You also had a ‘realistic’ interaction with the various analong, shoulder button, face button presses etc.

You have to keep in mind some of the gameplay elements you see arent possible in the system without the help of a quicktime event. How are you going to make Episode 11 as dramatic without the help of QTE? What you’re asking for would essentially make the game not as theatrical or interesting. That game would be quite dull without the cutscene button presses IMO.

Out of this, DMC and Gaiden III I have a feeling Asuras Wrath is coming out on top.

Dunno. I’m waiting for more footage on MGR. Asura’s Wrath does look a lot more interesting than DmC and NGIII though. I’m at least willing to give Asura’s Wrath a full playthrough. That being said, out of those three, I do agree with you.

It’s that bad?

Hmmmm…

Just got my greasy mitts on the demo yesterday. these QTEs (i’m guessing that’s the part reffering to all the button pressing that doesn’t actually let you run up and controll when and where you hit someone or in this case, A planet-wide space buddha) are somewhat new to me. I do remember the parts out of games like GOW series, but nowhere near so prevalent. Not sure how I feel about it, but it isn’t an instant love thing. From the looks of it, that is a major part of the gameplay. Is this true? If so, I’m not sure I’m gonna be going past the demo stage for this one. sucks. It looks pretty badass. I’ll leep an eye out for this though.

Well after playing the FF XIII-2 demo I’m pleased to say that Asura’s Wrath will not be the least interactive game this year

I thought the demo was complete shit.

I just played the demo. Do the devs take me for a fool? You just QTE all fucking day. How dare they call this gameplay. This game is a joke.

Ok so… straying a bit away from QTEs:

What did you think of the Fighting System itself? Do you foresee it having any depth when you only have 1 attack button, a ki-blast button, and one that just… sort of… did a thing?

Thoughts?

Are you really comparing playing Mega Man (as in, actually “playing”) to doing QTEs?

I see QTEs like this- You watch a movie with a malfunctioning VCR that keeps stopping the movie and you need to keep pressing the play button to keep the movie going. And that play button also changes locations on your remote. Does this sound like an interesting game? Does this sound varied from game to game?
To me it feels totally unrelated to the actual content, and pointless. I have yet to play a game where I didn’t hate its existence.

Too simple.

What fighting system? Oh yeah the 20 seconds where you could mash O?

Speaking of the “fighting system” the only “stylish” thing I could do is dodge cancel and jump cancelling is somewhat iffy. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t.

I want fluid and free form gameplay that lets players do what they want damn it!

the fighting sucks the QTE’s suck…BUT god damn the characters and story have me hooked, i wish there was an opton for jap audio/eng subs on the demo. already put 30 down on a preorder

What fighting system? Let’s call it for what it really is (at least how the demo presented it): BUILDING METER TO GET TO THE NEXT QTE. I’m not hating but that’s how it felt to me. I was doing 100 hand slaps and some shooting and yeah then boom. Meter burst thingy!

What makes me sad is that Capcom didn’t push for a demo that wasn’t during a boss fight (that’s if and only if the game is more than boss fights). Imagine if Bayonetta’s demo were a couple of bosses. You’d walk away thinking that yeah it’s a cool game but how does that combat work when I’m fighting normal enemies. That’s where this shit counts. Bosses are icing on the cake to almost any video game that’s isn’t a boss rush. But just like cake the boss battles only enhance the experience that should already be there. Chocolate cake should still taste good without the icing.

The characters and story got me hooked also…but it’s looking like I may wait until this game goes on sale.

The horrible english voice acting overall and the totally out of place background music in the second stage made my ears bleed.

Horrible demo.

Like I said, a nice rental. Or if you don’t want to spend any money, wait until someone does a playthrough on YT. In terms of it’s basic combat system, El Shaddai beats Asura in spades. That’s not good. I think most people agree that looking at the game is great but playing it is… another story. Shame because you want to know what’s going to happen next and everything is over the top. I remember the trailer from a while back when they showed Asura getting hit with an uppercut so nasty it sent him flying. Seeing Asura pick up stone beams and then running them into enemies lead me to believe the combat system may be rewarding but the demo shatters all hype and reduces the game to something that just looks epic. I’ll play it but you can count me as one of the “not paying 60 bucks for this” people.

Speaking of Ninja Gaiden 3. Where’s the thread for it at? I watched 45 mins of gameplay and besides the lack of variety with the main weapon (sword only? WTF?) that was shown, it looks cool enough.
