She isn’t horrible at all. Kane from Cali has been playing her, as well as a few Koreans from the Tekken Gosu vids on youtube. She is more based around magic 4 and string mixups now. The biggest things to stay away from imo are f+2 and 3~4. Beginning play you’ll get results from them, but the f+2 isn’t hard to bait at all, and 3~4 you can see on reaction.
Personally I do a lot of backdash d/b+3, backdash 4, and 1,1,4, 1,2,4, and 1,3. Also I’ll throw in a f+3 and ff+3 to catch people sidestepping/walking. You have to play her very poke-oriented. Her wall carry is pretty strong at least, so if you do crush every once in awhile, it isn’t too difficult to get the opponent to the wall, where your strings gain more strength and people can’t backdash and punish as efficiently.
Here’s an example of a pretty good asuka.

Basic gameplan is to keep your opponent out with standing 4, since a lot of asuka’s moves are not that quick. Once you’ve put that fear into them, you can start to tick away at them, either with ff+3, a quick forward dash to 1,3/1,1,4 or d/b+3. The range on d/b+3 is awesome, so don’t hesitate to use it. You can also maintain that range until they do something stupid and punish with the f+2, but you have to be careful not to be baited (You see a lot of this in that video). Otherwise it’s mostly just mixing up your strings and using those long legs to poke. You can also use d/f+4 as a decent mid poke if you think they’re going to try and duck your standing 4. That way they still stay at the range you like.
Nah I talked to him about her yesterday. He’s definitely not maining her, but he gave me some good info on her. I’m not saying that she’s a great character by far, but if your defense is on point you can do well with her.
When did Kane play Asuka? Only ever see him play Lili. Only seen videos of him, but still would like to see a competent Asuka since they are almost non-existent trying to find a video of one these days.
He tried her out a bit awhile back. I don’t think there are any actual vids of it though, I just talked to him through AIM. The Tekken_Gosu vids on youtube should give you a few options for good asuka gameplay
Alright, seen all of those so was hoping there was a little more out there but I guess it will be hard to come by. O well, back to looking through nico videos to see if there are any more tricks.
when i say lower 20, i dont mean straight shitty. this game feels pretty good in terms of balance so far and i can easily see the lower ranked characters doing pretty well in competent hands.
id personally put lili and bryan up and ganryu and roger down. i dont think raven is the worst either. probably kuma because he gets owned by juggles but then again that guy prince owned most of korea in the tekken crash videos.
one reason of the reasons why i dont think she is that good (top 20 matieral) is due to her lack of 12f punishers.
kane did play asuka for a while and did very well with her. he always maximized juggle damage, had super solid defense and was really good at nailing people with b+4 ch. that kind of stuff isn’t really character dependent though, he is just a strong player in general. i said asuka is probably lower 20 to him and he replied with “more like lower 10” so it just goes to show that any character can win.
Her punish game is fucking ass, can’t doing shit against moves that have lower than -13f. That’s why I dropped her for Kaz, because even a shitty Kaz player (THAT’S ME FOLKS) can beat a decent Asuka player if he mastered EWGF. Mishimas rape Asuka for FREEE. That being said, I’ll share some Asuka knowledge.
She does have some decent tools. D/F+3 is very underated poke tool imho.
Don’t see many people do 1,1,4. It’s safe if you space it right people, and if people mash after you do the 1’s, 4 will give you a free launch.
1+2 is still a very decent move, just don’t abuse it because it has some shitty homing.
D/B+4,3 is also another shenanigan I love. Gives a nice big launcher, plus safe on block.
B+3 people! Use it and love it. You can mix them up with D/B+4,3, just hope you don’t get parried.
u/f+3 is also very good because most people think it’s unsafe for some reason. If you notice players mash, launch their ass.
D/F+2 is her best launch, hands down. Get use to do that instead of F+2, because F+2 is ass for punishing. In fact, I don’t know why F+2 is even in this thread title.
Your basic goal with Asuka is to get people near a wall, because she is top10 on the cast list in terms of wall damage, maybe even top 5.
She’s sick, and if it weren’t for the horribad online and can’t get my juggles off it would be gg. They improved her mixup game and its really just using right mix up and then throw in the poke game. GG. If all else fails with lag spam it out with the sweeps i refuse to do that so my record is only 50% on ranked atm. Everyone is just spamming shit atm so annoying offline so much better. Anyone figured out her infinite combo yet? I know it!
shiet. we better get who’s best in MDVA figured out first!
Tyrel has a huge lead on both of us.
also someone change the name of this thread for fucks sake…that sounds so scrubby
Talim (in SC4) was considered garbage tier. Somehow Talim was picked in Nationals Championship Finals to take on Ami.
When you run into bulldog players that tier mess goes out the window. I still remember how many times MvC2 tiers were changed until years after the game’s release.
I really like Asuka so far, her movelist feels quite natural. Have any of you guys figured the combinations for her sample combos in her movelist? I’m in the process of doing it, but my patience is wearing thin.
And so far I haven’t seen many of us, usually just Lili and Alisa.
b+4 (let stick go to neutral), b+4~2,u/f+3,2,1,1+2,
There’s more complicated ones, but just work on those for now. If you don’t know the numbers yet I highly suggest you visit TZ, because you ain’t gonna get much useful tekken info on srk.
Edit: Here’s a visual example of her combos if you find numbers confusing.
I’m telling you guys right now though, you shouldn’t be going into a match with the mindset of “must launch and combo.” Asuka’s strength comes from he awesome mixups, counter ability, and good long range pokes. I win many matches just through smart use of ss+2 and d/f+3.
Thanks, been meaning to check that site out. Since the number system is kinda confusing, I’ll look there as well, and the video seems to be helping. Thanks so much. You’ll have to excuse me, this is my first Tekken so excuse the noobness. Working on the stuff you posted as well right now.
I’ve been able to win a handful of matches without big launches too.
