Assist unblockable?

I was wondering if you call an assist say Polymar for example and the character on point jumps to the other side and attacks will the player being attacked have to block both? The reason I ask is I see threads talk about crossing up a player with an assist as a means of mix up but not saying if its possible to actually break a persons guard.

So does this game work like 3rd strike where if you are attacked from both sides simultaneously your guard is broken in other words a true unblockable or does this game work more like MVC where if you block the point character the assist is auto blocked even though it is on the other side of you. :wtf:

It follows the same rule from MvC2 where the active point character is the character you have to block accordingly against. While you can sometimes get sandwiched in between the assist and point character, the point character is the character you’re really still block against.

That being said, there always a chance to create some very ambiguous cross-ups with your assist and appropriate attack/special movement. Characters who have attacks/movements (a few examples are Zero, Polimar, Tekkaman Blade) that pass right through the opponent can create some of these ambiguous cross-ups with varying levels of annoyance (amplified by how well the assist complements the cross-up attack/movement), but can be quelled if you catch on to the patterns.

You only block the active Char. of course a smart opponent will also rely on an overhead or resort to sweeps to add further complication to the cross up situation…
