I’m sure some might think this doesn’t deserve a thread, but I can’t stop scratching my head over this:

At 2:23, the match starts off with Kusoru calling RR Log Trap assist, and using V Joe’s uppercut against Spencer and Dr. Strange assist. The Log misses, and the Dr. Strange hits the ground. Strange stands back up, and while V Joe is doing an air dash heavy, he gets hit…? I love UMVC3, but I won’t claim to be an expert at all the intricacies and nuances of the game, but as far as I’ve always understood, assists become invincible after standing up from a knockdown (Which is why we try to OTG them as much as possible before this happens to get the kill). They get knocked down, if you don’t OTG, they eventually get up, taunt (Invincible by this point) and leave—that’s always been my understanding of it.
Has this happened before??? Do I really not understand the assist juggling mechanic???
I can’t give you a certain answer but I have experimented with this a little bit before. As you know, certain moves retain specific rules or mechanics to them. An example of what I mean is like Nova’s medium Centurion Arts. This move always causes a ground bounce. Deadpool’s Katanarama assist is also the same as it always causes a ground bounce as well.
Now with mechanics in mind (not saying the ones above but just saying mechanics in general), sometimes assists react different according to certain moves hitting them rather then hitting a point character. I also remember a while back doing this test where, what happens if your assist “somehow” got hit before they touched the ground. By this I mean as in the character comes out, doesn’t touch the ground yet and not get their assist off. By running some tests with this, I found out that since the assist never hit the ground for their assist, they’re still considered airborne.
Well, it’s obvious right? As in the fact that if you get while you’re still coming in, you’ll be “airborne” then hit the ground. The reason why you can still hit them again while they wake up is because they were technically never hit when they were on the ground. By hitting them mid air and them landing and actually hitting the ground. The property of them being able to get hit still stands true. Like in the video you saw, Strange was hit while he was coming in, luckily right on time. So when he finally hit the ground from being airborne and got up, his “touching the ground” mechanic finally occurred. When he stood back up from being knocked from the air, it would register him as getting the assist call out since he touched the ground. Of course his assist wouldn’t come out since he was disrupted from it earlier. This probably has to do with the games mechanics priorities. This by I mean how the rules would branch out in the game if A were to happen, then B would have to occur. Marvel is already always known to be a bit on the buggy side. The triggers in the game definitely are effected very weirdly with so many different move priorities and the like.
TL;DR IT’S MARVEL BAYBEE!
On the real though, I’m waiting to get my PS3 back again so that I can experiment with the mechanics and w/e again. Expect some video proof and the like in the near future~
Yeah have fun with that. I haven’t played Marvel in a couple of months so I can’t be 100% with this fact anymore since I don’t have a copy to experiment with. I do intend to experiment with it again when I get my PS3 up and running though. It was something like this. All I remember is that its harder to replicate this “glitch” then to just have it randomly happen in a match.
What about this then?

Happens around 2:18. Haggar clearly hit the ground before he was hit and still got caught by the proton cannon when he woke up.
It’s still having to do with the faulty programming and triggers like I brought up before. It also has to do with how I said how assists act differently when hit. Just things along those kind of lines. It’s marvel after all.
Maybe assists can get hit for a frame when they get up? Haven’t tested anything out at all, just asking anyone who has. For example, if an assist gets hit, and a beam gets activated (like Iron Man did in that video) would the assist normally just get up and fly off screen through it? I’m away from my PS3 at the moment, so I don’t know and can’t recall.
