The role of women in Islam is misrepresented in a large way by non-Muslim Americans. The vast majority of what he posted is fiction that people believe because they don’t bother to do their research or actually spend time with Muslims.
People also often take Quran out of context, using a sentence that’s inflammatory on its own and dropping everything around it.
Muslims aren’t perfect, there’s good and bad ones like any other group of people. However the idea that 1% of the billion+ Muslims are representative of the whole isn’t even logical. The idea that Muslims can just tell each other to stop even more so. The idea that this stuff is taught in mosques and that’s what we learn? That’s more paranoia than logic.
Like I said, if you actually want to know the truth about Islam is not difficult to find. At the end of the day, people will believe what they want. They’ve closed their minds and hearts to anything that conflicts with what they want to believe. That’s why I’m not bothering with him anymore.
All mosques that I know of have an open door policy. Walk in and ask questions. You can call and make an appointment to speak someone also. But again folks like him would never do that.

Any one can read up Quran and Hadith and come up with an interpretation that fits their own world views, but those views are irrelevant because Imams are the ones with authorities to decide which interpretations are right or wrong. When Egyptians got a reason to vote freely, they elected the Muslim Brotherhood. There’s a reason for that.

This. I feel that a lot of religions act as though it’s still 1700’s or some pagan shit. I have zero issue with what your beliefs are. But when those beliefs are forced on others, we have a problem.
And that’s what we’ve been asking for. Islam doesn’t have a chance though, when leaving the religion is punishable by death, and when half the population (women) have no voice. I literally don’t see Islam having any sort of proper enlightenment without a war or a massacre.
The political strife comes from religious leaders who have no right being political leaders. I wouldn’t elect the pope to be Prime Minister or President, just like I wouldn’t elect a garbage man or a barber. Every religion has people who interpret parts of their holy book differently from others, due to the conflicting nature of the books. Then you put these people in office, and they start preaching their beliefs instead of leading their nation.
I’m not saying this is a strictly muslim issue, either. You have assholes in the States who are in the Senate or Congress, and attack planned parenthood because it offends their religion, or offer ‘prayers’ instead of actual assistance.
