*Irish actor Michael Fassbender will be starring in Ubisoft Motion Pictures’ upcoming Assassin’s Creed movie, and his studio DMC Film is co-producing the flick.
He certainly isn’t a stranger to those of us with nerdier pursuits. Most recently, he appeared in Prometheus as the android David (above); previously, he voiced Logan in Fable III, played young Magneto in X-Men: First Class, and was Stelios in 300. Of course, you’ll find much more more that on his IMDb page.
Ubisoft Motion Pictures CEO Jean-Julien Baronnet said that Fassbender was their “first choice” to play the Assassin, though which one remains a mystery to us all. The premise of the movie remains vague at best, so your guess is as good as ours.
Ubisoft is playing their cards pretty carefully and seems to be keeping their game-based projects completely in-house now with Paris-based UMP. Distribution rights may go to other companies like Sony, but the publisher is definitely trying to avoid another Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, which was done by Disneya nd Jerry Bruckheimer.*
No idea if this is something that will help push his career or bury it in the political world of Hollywood. Either way it seems very interesting so I’ll be keeping an eye on it.
No no no no! I love AC, the last thing I want is Hollywood to inevitably fuck it up and you know they will. The only semi passable Videogame based movie ever was Silent Hill. Everything else, Garbage.
…Don’t make me mock the dead, I will. You, I and everyone who can still breath knows that movie was shit. The only thing worse is the game based on it…Why the hell would they make a game based on movie based on a game, WHERE’S THE LOGIC?!
