Because he’s a more skilled lyricist than 99% of rappers. Whether or not you like his content or style, his raw skill should be enough for anyone to like him.

If Elton John is cool with Eminem, then so am I. He’ll kill any MC in a battle and will make other people’s verses sound like shit on any track he costars on. But I just wanna know if black people like his music. He raps about weird shit sometimes.
Eminem is undeniably talented. There are MC’s that are better, but most of the really talented MC’s remain “underground” artists. Eminem happened to be white so he had a gimmick and was able to be successful as a mainstream artist. Talented yes, the best no.
Speaking of rap though, why aren’t black people mad with the fact that records companies continue to peddle the black stereotypes? Always seemed odd to me. I mean if you don’t want to be seen as petty criminals/gangstas/crack dealers, then why continue to portray yourselves that way? I mean when gangsta rap first came out I really felt that it was an honest look into the lifestyle of the urban black community. As a white kid growing up in the suburbs, it was eye opening to me. Hearing about how hard things could be, really made me grateful for the things that I had.
Now it just kinda makes me feel bad to see that 20 years later it is still being exploited. Is it something to do with “keeping it real”? I don’t know, if white people were making tons of money by exploiting our most negative sterotypes and were strengthing those stereotypes in the public eye, I would be pissed.
As someone who has always been into the hip-hop scene (b-boy,graff artist,DJ) this has always been something that has bothered me. I guess it could just be the case that most mainstream music sucks and the underground stuff is usually better. Ok, well this is a lot more than I intended to write so I’ll stop now.

Well I’m the last person to take stereotypes seriously. Was just curious if people got pissed off about this. I just would like to see music “that uplifts black people” actually be marketed and advertised by record companies. But I guess if I really look at the music business, they just find a formula that works and stick with it until they run it into the ground and I shouldn’t expect too much from them. I mean just look at autotune. That shit is everywhere now.
