Only if you can get us dinner with tkd… ; p
is all that stuff going to be streamed? or just some of it?
i might just have to hope Overheadgreg gets in his channel anyway, it is hard to watch Japanese streams here. inconvenient hours to say the least.
Good luck in Japan. Do you have anything in particular for the Yun matchup that you will be using against Daigo?
Good luck in the Yun match, Strider. Let us know how you did!
I think Ibuki beats Abel. If she knocks you down, you’re done. EX roll doesn’t get you out (option select U1, I saw Iyo doing this against good Abels in Japan), and she has a pretty tricky mixup on wakeup even without kunais. If you knock her down, I guess you can do some damage to her as well, but she has outs (reversal, backdash) that you have to respect or option-select, and it means your expected returns are less than hers, IMO, because her OSes don’t detract from her offense and you still have to worry about your backdash-catching OSes losing to EX DP. Abel’s large hit box also means she can do kick loops against him for longer than average, as well.
It’s not unwinnable or anything like that, though.
Strider called me earlier asking for directions to get to the arcade where everyone is hanging out at the moment… I heard the place is packed with top players now… I’m sure he is going to have a lot of stories to tell. I might go and meet him tomorrow, depending on whether he already has plans or not.
Ive been grinding on xboxlive lately, damn this shit is way better than psn LOL
I’m always worried that Microsoft’s lack of weight in Japan is going to mean the Xbox is eventually not going to be used for fighting games there (MS is already struggling to sell the console at all), and we won’t get to watch good matches on Xbox Live… because from what I understand, a lot of pros have made the switch to Xbox because it’s so much better. Do the pros care that they’re playing on Xbox at all? lol
Nekojita was in Taito last night playing against a master ranked Ibuki. He would do good, but still got blown up sometimes. I like the OS he was doing on wake up though (ex.cod -> ex.roll). I’ll try to record some matches tonight
ok this might be old but i just want to know how many frames off a TT do you have? i know all the basic setups but i just want to know to see if i can come up with some orignal ones
Haro Mr. Strider, i got a pretty common question for you… how do you decide when to use breathless or soulless??? this has probably been answered a crapload of times, but i’d like to see the reasoning from someone that has had a LOT of experience with different matchups AND different matchups WITH good players.
like ive been using soulless generally and breathless vs matchups when the opponent is at an advantage close range compared to abel(like gief) or characters that are hard to hit like honda and vs characters that can and like rushingdown a lot like yun/rufus. Exceptions have been like Thawk, even tho he has a good close range with his version of spd, i found he is really easy to footsie with/keep out, easier to get a good hitconfirm on, and easy to punish stupid moves.
Either way, what is your take on the ultras, especially considering breathless is easier to use again in 2012 ae~~~~
what was it like playing in the 5on5? Are you going to do a write-up of how the event went down? Sorry to hear about your loss
Sounds like somebody died…
haha, i just meant that it must feel shitty to go all the way to japan and lose your first match of the ayano 5v5 (or so i heard, i haven’t seen the match)
of course sbo is still coming up, so its not like everything is said and done.
At least one Abel did well. Or was it the only Abel? I haven’t watched all of it yet.
damn its been 2 long days
im sure strider has a lot to post once he gets the chance
for now hes busy levelling up lol
and im too tired to post anything much
yo strider, are you really 20?
wtf man?
anyway, the info for next week nsb is out (its either gonna be 3 teams league or 4 teams double elim)
more in the pm i guess?
Sorry I haven’t been posting much, but there are like absolutely NO wireless hotspots here. I thought there would be a lot more, so my only options to connect to the internet is to either go to a random internet caffe or starbucks/McD’s.
As for the 5v5, it was alright…wayyyyy too crowded, there was barely any room to move, let alone breathe. Speaking of breathing, it gets harder when everyone in there is smoking. Besides that, it was hell hype, Nekojita is amazing. He reverse OCV’d the Taiwanese team, beating Hsien Chang as well.
I played Nekojita a couple matches, I think he ended up beating me 4-2. The dude is sick, his matchup knowledge is incredible, his Yomi is also beyond godlike. The way he plays against Yun/Yang is also inspiring…he armor cancels every dive kick and uses close hp to CH normals off a bad dive kick perfectly. He still gets blown up a lot though, which just shows how terrible those matches are.
Also, to people saying Yang isn’t that good…please… He is the cheapest motherfucker in the game, hands down. I played against Nemo/AQUA some sets, and the shit they were doing was just plain unfair. They know unblockables on most of the cast, which are easily set up with a throw in the corner or a U2. Its GG once they get the unblockable though, since it takes off around 40% and leaves you in a very fucked up 50/50. Yang’s mixup is 10x scarier than Yun’s, since Yun’s is pretty simple, either he does something, or not. But not Yang… he has at least 4 options all the time, and they all lead to scary damage and back to another mixup.
I have realized how far behind America is on like 80% of the cast. There are some characters that we can compare in skill (like Rufus, Honda, Sim, Abel, Bison, Boxer…etc), but there are others where we are no where near the level they are playing them, mainly Blanka, Gen, the Trinity, Sakura, Makoto, Sagat, Akuma, Adon, CHUN LI!! (Y24 just exposed every single American Chun…free). Actually, they are far ahead in pretty much most of the cast, we hella need to catch up, especially our Blanka/Trinity’s.
I leave on the 25th, so I’m gonna be grinding it out lvl’ing up this whole time, I’ll do a long-ass post when I get back.
I see someone has seen the light LOL
I kept shaking my head everytime I hear people (usually on american tournament streams) talking like Yang is just “aight” and nothing compared to Yun…
A lot of stuff happens at the arcades and not recorded for youtube viewing pleasure.
Need Nekojita videos. But of course I don’t have any way to just watch players like that in an arcade, Japanese players really only get posted to youtube for tournaments.
Did the Yang players do the fake palm to EX command throw? Is it as baffling as it looks, even though anyone who’s watched Nemo has seen it dozens of times on the interwebs?
I’ve never heard of anyone referring to any characters as “the Trinity.”
The Trinity is pretty common imo but i guess its something that varies from people to people so kinda pointless to elaborate on the subject lol
There are only a few people who sometimes make the effort to record casuals at arcades in Japan (that i know of), thats me and Kim1234, but yeah both of us been busy with work and stuff so we dont have the consistency. But still, the point is, Japanese people wont really do the video recording at the arcade thing, though they do the live stream on console thing hardcore.
…and i think Strider shouldve taken a few vids of nekojita, he’ll upload em once he gets back i guess
How do you handle LP Rekkas from Fei Long? 2 LP Rekkas are -6 on block, and c.MP/c.MK/s.HP don’t even reach. I don’t think he’s at LP TT range if spaced even at all properly. Just a s.LK into potentially more pressure?
Ugh, this match really does seem like 3-7, or even worse, at my level of Abel knowledge.
