Gameplay will get a game backers faster than pretty much anything else the developers could show, for hopefully obvious reasons.

In a forum like SRK, you’re more likely to get people interested (or at least talking about your game) if you show actual gameplay.
Heck, better yet if you could do it like Double Tap of Fearless Night where the developers constantly share alpha builds for people to play.
