As far as story telling goes in Fighting Games, which one do you like best?

Guilty Gears story WAS good, until it kept going and going without ever making any progress. But hey, they wanted to keep making games so I cant really blame them.

Sol trying to get rid of all the gears = Sol has to kill himself eventually
Who is “THAT MAN”? We still dont really know
Guilty Gear 2 Overture was hot garbage and I refuse to acknowledge any story points from it.

Melty Blood, it’s basically half fighting game, half VN.

Hnk/jjba.

Haha. Does this count? Cuz if it does, he makes a fantastic point.

Agreed and agreed.

Fatal Fury is pretty interesting with the whole Terry killing Geese and having to take care of Rock thing.

That’s true too. I hate to admit it, but I even watched the “another day” anime series.

Melty Blood, nothing comes close

Another day was interesting, It didnt’ explain much but I think it gave a decent preview of a “what if” KOF became an anime series, though it essentially mashed 2 seperate universes together (Standard KOF and MI2). If any series were to be made into an anime series of some sort, SNK games probably have the best chance, though I’ll give props to Blazblue’s as well.

As far as I understood. MI2 was a dream match, hence there being both terry, and wild wolf…?

nah MI2 takes place in its own universe. Some people actually think the MI series takes place Before garou but after the fatal fury games, and may coincide with the AOF games, as in the regular kof universe, they rolled back the AOF ages to match up with the FF ages

Arc System games always go the extra mile when dealing with story. BB is just the latest example of this.

Or, five games worth of Demitri trying and failing to get into Morrigan’s pants and settling for turning guys into girls to get his fix.

I would say JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, but that was actually a manga before it was a game, so I don’t know if that counts.

I definitely have to give a nod to Arc System Works for the amount of effort they have put into the story modes of BlazBlue and Guilty Gear.

Finally, I have to mention Tekken because like Arc System Works, Namco has put in tremendous effort into their console releases to detail the story line.

Don’t get me wrong, the stories in BlazBlue, Guilty Gear, and Tekken aren’t what I would call novel-worthy by any means, but the effort that was put into those games at least made us familiar with the personality of each of their characters, and that deserves props.

I would say Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure (PSX’s Super Story) and Melty Blood, but those had source material and MB abandoned the in-depth visual novel mode of 1.00/React.

So Tekken for the execution of the cutscenes and the overall likability of the characters, but Blazblue/Battle Fantasia is the closest we had to a real story mode recently.

The actual main plots presented in KOF suck tremendously, but in terms of backstory and character development it’s probably the best.

In terms of overall plot, Garou: Mark of the Wolves is probably the best out of SNK games.

SamSho tries to have a decent plot, but the thing I don’t like about the series story is that there is a general lack of cohesiveness between the games.

I thought Guilty Gear had the best plot of fighting games, until I realized that they were never going to develop the plot any further (at least inside the games themselves…tossing in closure for the characters at the last minute in Accent Core Plus was a massive copout).

And then they just recycled the EXACT SAME PLOT AGAIN for Blazblue.

yeah I think you just struck why ALL fighting game plots suck. They introduce interesting and introduce some elements you’re intrigued by, then they are never developed.

Look at SF2- 18 years later and Honda wants sumo to be taken seriously, and Guile is looking for Charlie.

It’s gotta be mvc2. The story is not only really, really deep but also a bit touching. I was moved by this wonderful story so much that the first time I saw it I broke down in tears.

Tekken used be a fun guessing game of which Mishima would get thrown from a high place and what place would that be? Then Jin fucked it up and now is a more insane bad guy that either his daddy or granddaddy.

I really love what ArcSys did with BlazBlue. You can tell that they put their all into creating that universe. I suggest that everybody watches Teach Me Dr. Litchi. Funny but damn informative.

Evil Zone was another game that had a good story. Didn’t really take itself too seriously but good storytelling.

KOF also did a great job in the storytelling department. It started to get a little wacky but still a good story all around.

in no particular order
Guilty Gear, BlazBlue, The Last Blade, The King Of Fighters, SoulCalibur, Eretzvaju

maybe Arcana Heart, haven’t played BattleFantasia, but it seems that has a nice story too

edit

i forgot Jojo

The power instinct series story is just plain weird. If you wanna get a laugh out of a dysfunctional family trying to beat the shit out of each other give it a try. It involves a dog/boy hybrid and a loli who can turn legal if your interested.

But the groove on fight is actually serious and not really as goofy at all (Besides some quirks).
