yeah, 53 - 22 s1, 18 s2, 13 s3 - there are 54 eps on the dvds however, because there is an extended version of the pilot. season 2 should have been 22, but they cut it to 18, and 3 should have been 20, but it was eventually made 13, 4 of which all aired on the same night…against the opening of the 2006 olympics…
You probably caught this joke already, but they also cut Michael’s proposed number of houses from 22 to 18 in an episode.
^^ never caught that in all my viewings. Fucking amazing.
i think i actually did catch that on my last viewing…god, the writing on that show was way too inteligent for the average american viewing audience…
Must’ve been why it got cancelled.
it got cancelled for a host of reasons - first off being that it is truly a dvd show. i don’t know any person, including myself, who started watching the show mid-season and got it. i thought the show was quirky until i invested some time to learn the characters, then it was genius. tyhe second problem is the network it was on. nbc would have been a much better fit…
in the end, the basic truth is that while it’s dvd sales were monumental,. it’s ratings sucked. fox didn’t help this by making the show nigh impossible to peg when it was going to be on. it would eb on one week, then off for several weeks, then back again. it’s a shame…how many shows can you say the final eps were some of the funniest they ever made?

Amazing, they left no stone unturned did they?
THE PUREST TRUTH!
thanks to the cross video desi posted, i found this video of mr kieth olberman’s thoughts on ad and the prospect of a movie:

IIRC in that same bit they were playing around with the rumor that the show might continue on HBO (Home Builders Organization in the episode) or Showtime.
I wish I could quote it, but I fail at arrested development knowledge at the moment.
Yeah something like “HBO would never want us” or something like that. I don’t remember exactly either, but I know what you mean.
yeah - also on the last episode when they are on the boat, buster makes a comment about skating with teh stars, which is a show that AD was put on hold to run…
they constantly made fun of competing showsd and issues surrounding the show - they mocked prison break several times, they made a lot of little jokes about being sued over the title by the band with the same name (thus the reason the “motherboy” band was clarified in the motherboy episode. also tony wonder making the comment about “use your illusion”)
is it possible to stress how truly genius this show was?
^^
Nope, i just ran through all three seasons and this show is one of my most favorite comedies of all time.
I can’t wait for the movie (although I dont know how well it’ll do in the box office) and I’m looking forward to my 2nd run through of the shows.
Are the dvd’s worth getting for the extras?

This has probably been mentioned before but the whole series is on Hulu.com
Made my 2nd run through the entire series through there.
“You lied to me! You said my father is my father but my uncle is my father! MY FATHER IS MY UNCLE!”
Oh my God.
“I got a nice hard cot with his name on it…”
“You’d do that to your own brother?!”
“I said cot!”
How do I count the way I miss thee?

Yes, definitely. The extra scenes are really funny. The reason they’re deleted (imo) was cause they ran too long but they were definitely funny. Also, I’d suggest getting the DVDs so you can watch a bunch of episodes in one sit down and catch the jokes they call back. There are call back references to older seasons in season 3. For example in season 3 when Michael is visiting GOB on his boat, you see that GOB’s boat is called "The “C-Word” which is a callback from one of the older seasons when Michael and GOB were talking about a boat and their mother was in the room, Michael is denying GOB the boat and says, “Get the Seaward out of here” to which his mom replies, “I’ll leave when I’m good and ready”.
It’s so awesome they got away with really vulgar jokes by making the context really elaborate thus allowing them to slip pass the cenors. They made a joke about this too, George Sr. went behind the fridge to slip past his ankle monitor sensor and the narrator says, “this is when he figured a way to slip pass the S/C ensors” then Buster comes in and says “If mom sees this she’ll blow a cow”.
:amazed:
I love watching all the episodes over again and dissecting them. It’s just so amazing.
KKKKKKIIIINNNNGGGGGGGGG 3,000 dollar suit, C’mon!
Funny that this thread got bumped today. I actually just finished watching the series for the first time yesterday.
In truth, I’m pretty depressed atm that I’ve watched one of the greatest shows ever conceived, and that it had to end.
