This is all part of Skynet’s plan.
Next they are going to say that nobody has the correct accent to properly teach masterful English, so they will have to bring in robot teachers who are programmed to not only pronounce each word correctly, but also have flawless grammatical skill and deep literary understanding.
It has begun.
Soon the entire world will be a wasteland of man versus machine warfare, the sky will be blacked out by the smoke of burning corpses and the fires of ever-increasing industry, and everyone will know how to properly identify situations that can be deemed “ironic”.
Hopefully heavy accents includes Southern and gets incorporated nationwide. I’m getting tired of working McD’s drive thru and hearing “Awll hev uh Maykay Day’s Swayt Tay.”
I’m pretty sure onlythree of those words has an A in it. And you aren’t even supposed to hear it in one of those three words. SO WHY AM I HEARING IT IN EVERY WORD EXCEPT THE WORDS IT’S SUPPOSED TO BE IN?!
yeah, the thing here is how much ‘accent’ does someone need to have to keep this thing from very clearly turning into arizona’s new: fuck over minorities, policy. I don’t want to argue from a position of bad faith here, but generally this isn’t the kind of shit any government ever has handled responsibly.
edit: I know it’s popular to hate on southern accents, but considering that all you yankee doodles sound ridiculous, maybe you need to settle down. Discriminating against accents is like the oldest form of Classism/elitism in the book. Languages have different dialects, deal with it.
Yeah everyone has their own way of speaking. I mean, the English-speaking Canadians sound like idiots to us Americans, and the French-speaking Canadians sound like idiots to the French. But we don’t make fun of them for it. Much… Well, we don’t discriminate, anyway.
^_-;
exactly. The only real difference between ‘standard english’ and southern english is that one is supported by institutions that people believe have ‘authority’, but there isn’t anything objectively better/‘more’ correct about one or the other. All these dialects are internally consistent. Given, I understand the importance of being able to speak ‘standard’ in important settings, but this isn’t really the issue at hand.
let it be known that Most British people think all of your American accents are atrocious.
they might as well ban accent in mathematics too. I haven’t seen any math/science/physics/chemistry professors without an accent in all my study
Az didn’t just get cereal, it got wheel

I’m glad that’s one thing Brits and myself have in common.
does that mean americans from the south or something can’t teach there either. Cause they have some pretty crazy accents.
The Iliad was not written in English and Shakespeare’s English is a far cry from modern English.
Hark! Betwixt is thine argument sure, for doust aliens teachith English unpure.
