Top player or not this Aquasilk sounds like a tier whore.
Heh, all these “tier whores” crying because their character got a slight nerf, it’s like a millionaire crying that he lost a 5 note :rolleyes: (not talking about you Clutch :P)
This. It truly annoys me when people like this bitch over the fact their character doesn’t destroy half the cast for free just because of design and exploits. It makes the battle more about skill rather than who’s using the better character, which is what fighters are supposed to be about in the first place. Dude can cry me a river for all I care; either adjust your style to fit the character or, do the easy way out, and pick the next top-tier character to abuse.
I think you’ll find that Aquasilk stuck to Gief 100% even when he got to top 8 at tournaments and his opponent counter picked with Seth/Sagat, which could possibly the two worst matchups in the game. That’s not exactly the MO of a tier-whore.
Also these days I can understand people who are tier-whores. If you’re ‘playing to win’ and you pick bottom tier then you’re a bit stupid aren’t you? Not everyone plays for fun.

If he truly liked the character he would stick with him, declaring Zangief as “trash” is a little melodramatic, don’t you think?
Well I’ve only played a few hours of a friend’s shonky copy of SSF4, but from what I’ve seen Gief got hit with the nerf stick HARD compared to the rest of the cast! I can well imagine the frustration of having things that used to work now resulting in failure and punishment.

Gief had the worst match ups in the game before. So we know what it feels like to fight an uphill battle. I understand that a lot of you where venting about Aqua and not me. But, just because Zangief is a really hard match up for Sakura and can abuse the lack of tools Sakura has; it doesn’t mean that the nerfs he received are justifiable.
To all Sakura players who think they understand Gief and Gief players…
Don’t pretend that your the only one that knows what it feels like to have tough match ups or even impossible ones. Gief players are the most known players for sticking to their guns in tournament play and not switching even when counter-picked with Sagat in almost every match. Sure Sakura has mostly poor match ups, but very few are nearly as bad as Sagat vs. Gief. Imagine if 50% of the time you chose Sakura your opponent picked Sagat… and Sakura vs Sagat is actually a tad bit better than Gief. But at least you might be able to understand where we are coming from. Also, Zangief has never won any tournament worth mentioning and is nowhere near top tier. Akuma, Sagat, Ryu, Rufus, Balrog, and Chun Li are all better than Gief on most lists and even Sim and C. Viper have proven themselves as more tournament viable then Gief. Finally, Zangief has never had his day in the sun. Every game that capcom makes they hate on grapplers and they finally have a competative (not amazing) grappler and what do they do? They nerf him hard.
Ask yourself this… Why wasn’t Balrog nerfed? He is A tier and much better than Gief and yet was left largely unchanged. Chun Li got buffs and she is also higher tier than Gief… These are the reasons most Gief players are disappointed, because most players that struggle against Zangief are low skilled players, regardless of what character they use.

I always thought Dan’s worst match-up was Zangief, not Sagat.
And from what i’ve read Zangief’s nerfs are on par with the rest of the cast.
Lariat is now less braindead, but can still be used as an AA. He also does less damage overall but so does most of the cast. In exchange he got a great ultra 2.
I don’t think you see the whole picture. If you just take a look at Seth’s changes, you’ll see that he got nerfed hard too. U1 isn’t as godly as in Vanilla for trap(yeah, i admit i always thought that Ultra to be retardedly good. Seth had the least health but he also had 250dmg guaranteed on the whole cast with that ultra), j.hp not as good for zoning, and teleports just suck.
Now, regarding Gief’s 2nd worst match-up, Sagat. Besides his damage output nerfed hard, they also took away his tiger knee string, and his standing lk zoning and they gave him a cancelable st.hk(only upclose) and the angry scar.
Zangief had a hardtime getting close to Sagat but now he’ll have twice the chances to do that.
Also Chun is on par with Gief in the tier list…

Just because we don’t play trash characters doesn’t mean we are tier whores. We just like viability and competition.
If there is anything I have to say is this, Why so much branding and flaming? Regardless of the characters we choose to you, we are apart of the same community, instead of calling people names, lets help each other out and give tips. We all want to be better with the characters we choose to use right?
Okay maybe not a tier whore. I complained about whats happening to Sakura aswell (se my blog) but you don’t see me switching character just for that. Dude said Gief is trash and is moving on so I don’t know why 3-4 people are coming into the Sakura forums to defend Aquasilk who may or may not have even said this.
Let them discuss Gief in their forum or we can discuss it in Sakura vs Gief match ups. This topic is about if you feel you are the most unskilled Sakura player on SRK Forums.
AS for my thoughts. I’m glad they nerfed his Lariat. That thing had alot more chip damage on it than some characters Ultra chip damage. I’m glad it only hits once then whiffs on crouching opponents.
Yeah probably Zangief or Blanka are Dan’s worst. Zangief because s.MP owns everything Dan can do and only LK Dankuu is safe on block (EX is fine from max range) otherwise it’s a free SPD for Zangief. Blanka can just spam shit and the only thing Dan can do is a psychic DP or jabbing but jabbing isn’t a deterrent since it can still miss or trade 
Seth isn’t that bad for Zangief, only if he’s being played perfectly and let’s be honest, no one is perfect. One or two good reads and it’s over for Seth, at least Zangief has a butt ton of health to help him.
i dont know about that im not even good with seth and my neutral jump fierce owns gief. and not to mention the difference in his fireball speed and if u do anything i punish u ultra
Gief’s lariat always whiffed over Sakura after the first swing.
I do see Sakura being competative against Gief in Super and I’m excited to play Cody. We might actually be able to produce some concept matches instead of Zangief just doing whatever he wants for free. It will still be an uphill battle for sakura.

I agree with Clutch Hugs though, most Giefs have not only been committed to him in IV, but since II = p.
When I face a Gief, I usually get pissed, unless I know its their main (and you can easily tell). I think scrubs give Gief a bad rap. If he gets any nerfs, it’s only gonna weed out the scrubs while allowing the others to still play fairly competitive. I mean, really though, Gief only needs two mistakes to win. Even if just his hp got nerfed, that’s gonna make him a bit more cautious. Kind of a pain learning all these combos and links with our Sakuras, only to fall to some scrub mashing a 360 twice, that’s all.
Point: Keep playing Gief, if he’s your main, you’ll still do well.
PS: Super sounds like it’ll weed out all the vanilla scrubs getting away with bs. Isn’t like they’ll be able to use Dudley either, so it should be interesting to see what happens. Can’t wait ^^
