Are you against fighting games going online?

why would you be against it? if you don’t like it, don’t play it.

So Sirlin has seen the speed of light broken?

Neat trick.

I think all dead tournament fighting games should go online…

I don’t think anyone would mind if it was lag free but that isn’t an option as of rite now.

Like any potentially damaging substance, online play should be made available in fighters and enjoyed in moderation. It’s been around since XBand, so why take it away now?

I don’t think fighting games being online (and widely available for that purpose) would be the finishing blow to arcades. From what I’ve seen, most of the people still playing arcades would play there no matter what even if SF/whatever else was online. It would be no different than it is now. There will always be people who are hardcore about SF who realize that offline is the way it must be played if you’re playing competitively. Aren’t those the people sustaining the scene in arcades right now?

3S is already online for Xbox, but in a few arcades it’s still doing well. It’s not like people dropped what they were doing and went out to buy an Xbox. Online 3S sounds like the greatest thing ever, but look how few people care about it.

people won’t care until it’s seen on kaillera :looney:

near perfect current gen fighting games would be great.

So far no dice however.

After I played 3S on the Xbox…I was never so frustrated in my life…I tried to hit confirm c.mk into SAIII with Ken…and I failed to do so on so many occassions and I could do that in my sleep…later on I find out by my friend(who had more exp. playing online then me, since that was my very first time), you have to do it before you see the kick animate…and I was like…wtf. Mind you, we where using T1 connection…and to me, I honestly don’t mind FG’s going online, as it would, for good or for worse, bring out more players into wanting to get into the fighting games.

However I don’t like it to how some players I’ve heard of online, who exploit lags to their advantage. I don’t believe online will ever be taken seriously, unless some magical day there is 100% pure flawless connection with 0% lag, however until then, playing face to face is where the real competetion is at.

So no, I’m not against fg’s going online if that’s what your wondering.

I would defenitely like fighting games to go online. It makes for much better for practice and self improvement if I can’t go out and find someone to play. It’s just much better than praticing against a CPU who will psychic-rape you. (Or be really easy to beat.)

It’s amusing in that sad sort of way when you hear people talk about the second coming of arcades in America. Talking about the death of arcades as if it’s something that has yet to happen.

There is the fact that there are communities in which arcades thrive, but these are unusual. Most places either have poor options, or no arcade at all.

So yes, I’m fully in favor of fighting games going online. While the argument about whether or not they’ll ever be at playable speeds is somewhat off what the question asks, nothing makes me believe that it would not be possibly if it is not already. Playing Poporu has shown me that it’s very doable. If fighting games could just have that level of netcode, I’d be more than satisfied.

Fighting games going online would allow many more people to have access to the games, have access to comp, and won’t do anything to arcades that hasn’t already happened. (People still clinging to arcades will do so anyway, they are the unusual lot, when home ports killed the arcades for many, they stuck around. So I bet they’d stick around in the areas that already have good comp.)

“It’s better than nothing.”

Arcades FTW, but since most of those don’t have good arcades around, if any at all, it would be the next best runner-up.

Not equal. At all.

Well, with the current number (or quality) of arcades, I think it’s funny that people are even comparing the two. As one exists, and one doesn’t.

It’s like asking “who’s a better leader? Aragon from Lord of the Rings or Adolf Hitler?” Guess which is which.

I do remember lagging pretty bad when I played against an NYC player. Maybe that was you…Still though, it was better than Kailleria. :looney:

Game client still has to update yah (beacuse it’s 2 different systems processing the game, not one). But 1f lag is almost unnoticable and extremely playable. With proper coding you could probably eliminate 1f lag for one of the players but I’m not at all sure.

You’re retarded.

…truest thing since 2007.

…that went well.

I would have to say that 80 to 90% of the matches I’ve played of Hyper Fighting on Xbox Live have been lag free, so yes, I am a supporter of online fighting.

give it another 5 to 10 years until netplay becomes viable.

and please don’t say that perfect street fighter netplay will never happen. internet technology has come a long way and theres still plenty of room for improvement. did anyone thought it was possible to download a whole cd album in a few minutes back in the early 90s?

the big question is will capcom or some 3rd party keep up with the upcoming technology and code it correctly for netplay?
