Are Walmart digital cameras any good?

Hi, I’ve been considering buying a new digital camera (haven’t had one for 4 years…) and I noticed Walmart has a bunch for around 200 dollars. Are these cameras worth buying? I know they aren’t top of the line but will they still give a sharp picture, is there a particular brand that is better then the rest, ect?

They’re great (or at least the kodaks, those are the only ones I’ve owned). Right now I’ve got a Kodak 5.1MP digicam that I got from walmart and it was only like $120 or $130. Takes great pictures and also records videos (no sound though).

it would all depend on what you will be using your camera for. if you’re planning to take pictures, just to resize them, and put them online or whatever, a 3-4MP camera would seriously get the job done. if you’re planning to do large prints, then maybe you should consider going with something a little more.

but if you’re planning to use the video feature in cameras, then you should get something in the 6-7MP range. it’s handy for getting footage here and there, when you really need it, without carrying around an extra video camcorder.

but yeah, go to your Walmart, and copy down the brands, models, and prices. then you can compare prices and features online, so you can get the camera that’s right for you.

but you can get a pretty good camera for 200 bucks.

Thanks for the input. I had no idea what “megapixle” was for, lol. I just plan on using the camera for taking pictures of myself, places, and my stuff. I hadn’t considered a video function I’ll have to look into that.

Walmart makes their own line of cameras?

lol, no but they have good prices

Going with that one I guess. Only problem I have with it is that the video format is quicktime. Although I’m sure there is some program out there that can convert it to mpeg or avi.

I’d recommend against that one. Kodak’s current compression engine compresses the images TOO much, so you get bad artifacts in the pictures. I have the 6.1 MP model. It’s most noticable with pictures that have a lot of black in them. The black has static in it and looks very grainy.
